Well Done Codemasters
FIrstly, I preordered this game based on being a HUGE fan of Dirt 2. There are many differences, both in good ways and not so good. Of the GREAT aspects of D3 are Gymkhana. The fun, reckless, and point driven driving style can be both insanely addictive and a great break from the drone of other racing games. The vehicle tuning section of the game is harder to manage, and therefore, Amazing! In D2, you could throw a successful tuning together in mere seconds with a basic understanding of the categories, and that set could be used for any race in a given race style. In D3, however, with the introduction of rain, snow, and multiple surface changes, one has to be able to gauge the tuning requirements versus the race ahead, and minor adjustments can make huge time differences. It is a very welcomed difference from previous games in the series and other racing games with tuning. My personal favorite racing style from D2 was Trailblazing, and that tradition continues in D3. Though much touchier in control, the effect of minor tuning changes can be monumental and make your replays insanely fun to watch. All the other racing styles are as much fun to play as they were in D2, with one exception, Land Rush. Land Rush cons, no selection in vehicle type (disregarding future DLC). You either grab a Stadium Truck or a Buggie, choose your livery, tune, and go. D2 gave you options in vehicles which is sorely missed in D3. That being said, the control of these vehicles is MUCH easier in D3 than in D2. There was a weird balance of acceleration/braking in Land Rush in D2 and took far too long to master. D3 gives the player a welcomed break from that weirdness and lets you actually drive those races. Along with all the pros Dirt 3 offers, there are some superficial drawbacks. I feel that the Dirt Tour Interface is less fun and much more like a "lets get through this" type interface. Also, I could play D2 for hours and hours with no problem, yet I find myself easily able to turn D3 off after a couple of races. Also, as is expected, the courses are harder (not a problem), but there is really no race to just let loose and go as fast as you can, D2 lent itself to rev limiting most races in at least one part or another, yet I have only found 4 areas, thus far, across the whole game where you end up limiting the revs. This may be a product of just getting to know the courses more and more as one plays through, but I find the speed factor to be lessened in D3. Load times for races seem a little long from the BR disc and there are no legend challenges thrown at you intermittently throughout the game. Despite the criticisms I have about D3, I will never trade this one in. It is literally an amazing game and, logically, the next step in non simulated racing gaming. I HIGHLY recommend this game over GT5 if you like to just have fun and not worry as much about the technical accuracy of the vehicle models and simulation style racing. I would recommend this game for anyone who likes to have fun driving. . . period.
Better With Every Installment
I own the first 2 DiRT games and love them so I reserved this one and picked it up day one and Im glad I did. Its one of the best racing games I've played. The graphics of the cars and environments are immaculate and the sense of speed and feel of driving are incredible. Unfortunately there is still no customization or mods to be added to your ride but this makes it more realistic because as a WRC contender you don't work on your car, sponsors build you cars and give them to you to race its your job to win not to build a car. the new Gymkhana races are pretty cool and add a new aspect to the game but get old after awhile because you brake boxes and do donuts around different sized poles and drift to collect points and thats about it, plus you never win them because Ken Block collects insane scores. I came in second with 135,000 points while ken block came in first with 260,000 points but whatever. If you are a hardcore race fan get this game.
Realistic Racing? Look no further
Dirt 3 has the best graphics for a racing game. Split/Second is up there but Dirt 3 take it to a whole new level. Codemasters does an excellent job of using the terrain to alter the racing. You race on dirt, snow, cement, and also drive through water. I chose to put the difficulty on 'Medium' and I quickly had to lower it. You have to learn the vehicles first, adjust the cars performance, and then bump up the difficulty in order to enjoy your time spent playing. I have only done the single player due to the fact that I've been going through my greatly expanded game library. The single player is set up to where the better you do, the better sponsers you will have look at you. The better race teams have better vehicles and give you more "Rep" (reputation) points so you can become the best rally car driver in the world. A more in-depth review will be provided by me at a later date.
Rally Car Racing to the 3rd Power
Ok this game is great just like Dirt 2. This is better than Dirt 2. Don't get me wrong Dirt 2 is cool and all but the controls are a little harder to control the car regardless if you are really good at car racing games. You tend to spin out and fall behind in the races. X Games are the hardest things to win. Anyway, Dirt 3 is great. You go full speed and the controls work great with it. Different storyline in the game which is pretty cool. New tracks and everything. You should get this game.
Best Racing Game
I bought this game with high expectations and it just blew me away. The graphics are beyond amazing and the scenery and effects are awesome. The sun effects are sick and when you race in certain conditions for example snow after the race is over your car will be covered in snow so realistic like. The sound is great also when on certain types of surfaces. The driving is excellent and the controls are easy to use. I also fell in love with the new cockpit view which is great. Lots of cars to choose from and lots of races including the one and only Gymkhana. Also there are buggies and trucks. The physics are great along with the crashes. Also there is split-screen which is cool cuz most racing games dont have that. Online is fun and and intresting. i could play this game for hours and hours. The best racing game made. If you are thinking between DiRT 3 GT 5 and NFS get DiRT 3 trust me much more fun. Great job Codemasters.
ONLINE PLAY IS BEAST
The dirt tour is OK, i started kinda getting bored playing the tour. but finally when ps3 online turned on, my whole opinion changed. i have never experienced such awesome online gaming before. Its all just perfect. i cannot stop playing this game. i would recommend this game to any racing lovers, and to competitive players. i also recommend using a steering wheel, when i play, its just like i am really racing.
Buy it new and save $$$$
Don't buy a used copy of this game. It will cost ya more for the used copy cause you have to pay 9.99 to buy a code to play online.
It is worth the money!!!! Don't think twice to get it!!!!
Great Racing Game
This game is awesome. I loved Dirt 2 and this was an obvious purchase for me. The only thing that I am a little upset about is the fact that you have to purchase the track/car upgrades and also a VIP upgrade. These range from $9.99 for the VIP, $5.99 for the tracks (various purchases available) and $1.99 for the cars.
This game is not cheap as it is and I think that these upgrades should be included. Other than that the game gets a 10/10 from me.
I purchased the HKS Racing controller at the same time and must admit that it takes some getting used to but is a great alternative if, like me, you cannot afford a racing wheel.
This game is graet from the never ending cars and trucks to ken block teaching you how to drift and jump.... If you finish season 1 you get to drive with ken block and then get to practice in the dc compound and do mission like drifting and jumping and doing 180's.... the more season you finish the more compunds you get....This is the only type of "freerun" in this game but it is also 1 of the best freeruns i ever played....Before you leave the store make shore you check for the vip acsess in the case ... this lets you play online and gives you 5 new cars like the hummer h3... if there is not vip acsess make shure you buy a $10 playstation network card to be able to play online.... I made the mistake of just buying the vip acsesss instead of looking in the case first (it was $9) .... so make shure you look.... Ok thanks for reading and get this game
