One Teensy little thing...
Here's yet another otherwise terrific Codemasters game with the same glaring flaw...I can't hear the engine. It's buried waaaaay down in the sound design. I usually play with the sound turned up so loud my roommate will insist I put on headphones. I like to hear the engine like I was sitting in the car itself. Shift changes need to occur at precise rpm and part of setting the gearing to advantage is being able to hear when the engine is at the peak of it's power band.If a racing game offers the feature, I usually turn the music off as the only song I should hear is the one the car is singing. I'm starting to feel an omninous dread about their forthcoming F1 title. If you can't hear the engines in those cars, you'll never be competitive at the increased difficulty settings. My problem is that once you go sim racing, its hard to come back.Codemasters: more engine sound...much less tire squeal & crunchy guitar riffs. Let me know when you want to QC the sound design in your new F1 title. I'm your guy.
GAME OF THE YEAR!!
DiRT 2 is the best game ever. Everything about this game is great. DiRT 1 was good but it got boring towards the end, this game doesn't. Codemasters did such a good job on this game. Im not one to just sit down and beat a game in a hurry, but this game is addicting. It also has a pretty good soundtrack, the online mode is awesome, there's like 4 or 5 different levels of difficulty of single player, all the pros. cars are in the game including Ken Block, Travis Pastranna, Dave Mirra, Tanner Foust. I dont really dont know what else to say, definetly reccommend this game to anyone who likes racing. I think as of how many copies this game has sold and how great this is it definetly deserves Game Of The Year, but Call Of Duty MW2 is proboly gonna get it nomatter how good or bad that game is. I dont care, just get the game its worth it 100%
Dirt 2 is Fun!
Today I purchased Dirt 2 & NFS:SHIFT... I can't put the controller down long enough to open Shift and insert the disk in my PS3. This game is so much fun. I like the way the did the Dirt Tour, graphics are spot on, sound is amazing, and the gameplay is great. I love drifting around corners and hitting jumps as the pyro goes off. Online is great, with a really cool ranking system. The enviroments are amazing. Some of the things that really caught my eye are vehicle lighting, dust, fireworks, music videos on your tv in you RV, water spray on your windshield after going thru puddles. Just a small amount of detail that really caught my eye. I would recommend this game to the hardcore or casual race fan. Its have different dificulty levels so you can set it to your liking.
I was highly impressed with the sequal to one of the greatest racing games ever made. Besides the fact that the most you can do to your vehicle is put on preset paint jobs, little dashboard toys and set the gears, this game id definatley worth buying. It still has that arcadey feel to it and it is easy to measter of course with the choice of difficulty. There tons of tracks, vehicles of all sorts and the graphics are something to frame aswell. To me its was money well spent. All of the vehicles, sponsors, tracks ect are fully licenced so you dont get any of those corny names the developers came up with while they were drinking their coffee in the morning. You also get to gain the trust of pro drivers such as Travis Pastrana, Ken Block, Dave Mirra and many more. BUY IT
Best racing game available now
When I first bought this game, I had high expectations based upon how good the original, and Grid were. Boy was I unsuspecting of just how good this game would really be. I should probably point out the only two flaws i've noticed, being the lack of track variety, (Usually 2 or 3 tracks per area, ran reversed and/or at different times of day) and vehicle variety (Though you find yourself getting used to a handful of them anyway). When you up the difficulty, the races usually become quite challenging, unlike the typical "dominate everything" racing game. The graphics are simply amazing, the interface great, and vehicle controls are really realistic, and also fun. Usually racing games don't get the recognition they deserve, and aren't in the running for game of the year. Based upon how good this game is, I think it should definitely be considered.
What a racing game should be!
Everything about this game is so well done - the handling while driving is awesome, the music is upbeat, graphics are sensational, the voice-overs are even funny, and the replays are awesome to watch (makes you feel like a badass when you see how well you whip around a hairpin turn). If you're a fan of racing games only for vehicle customization it's not meant for that, but if you're a racing game fan it's a must have.
this game is great all around. graphics are good, gameplay is awesome, and it can get a little challenging considering what difficulty u have it on. one things that is great about this game is the realistic racing and crashes. one flaw this game has is...........idk, it has none. BUY IT!!
The best racing game out right now!
This is the best racing game out right now. The graphics that are the in this game (the cars and the surroundings) makes NFS SHIFT look like a PS2 game. The game is fun, the cars look real and feel real. I’m not into Rally, I love street racing & drifting games. But in this game you can drift around the corners at high speed and it feels real. The cars sound real too. The only thing I wish this game had is, split-screen local play and the ability to customize the body kit of you car. I have a Subaru and I would love to make my car in this game and drive it in this game. I still love this game and if you haven’t got GRID, pick that one up to. The drifting is crazy and the replay is sick. They are both a must have for any car racing game lover!
Dirt 2 Reveiw, simpley amasing.
Dirt 2, as the title states, is the second game in the Dirt series, and I have to say, this game is amasing. Lets start with the "story" mode, I like this because it acually doesnt try to put a half baked story into it, it just says here's some cars now go race them. It is trying to pull off the feeling that 'you' are a rally racer, trying to get the feel of slowly building fame, and it seems to work pretty nicely. When you finish a race some famouse driver will say things like " No one coud even touch you in that race" or if you did poorly " Man, the whole world was against you." It just seems to add a little bit of atmosphere. As you gain experience you unlock new locations such as Croatia, Baja, or Japan and with them come many new races. There are a load of tracks and each feel different, some in Malaysia feel really tight and windy while the Baja tracks feel more open and strait. weather your in the open or closed in by brush the sence of speed is amasing, you always feel like your flying. The cockpit veiw really enhances this feeling because it looks like the car is shaking and it just makes it feel even faster. Codemasters did a very good job on the cockpit, it feels realistic and is my preffered style of driving, it just adds to the imersion aspect. Now I beleive that gameplay and story should come before graphics, but since this is a racing game the story is out allowing for a maximum gamplay and graphical experience, and CodeMasters really pulled out the stops on this. The graphics are amasing, looking very realistic and the game very rarely chugs even when your racing at 70 mph in a thick Malaysian jungle. And the car machanics are great, now they may not be the most realistic but on a scale of 1-10, 1 being arcady, 10 being in a real car, its probably about a 7. Your car slides realisticly and the braking is great. Plus on some tracks you transition from gravel to tar and you really feel the difference in handling, once again adding to the imersion aspect. There are a number of events each different from the other, theres Rally which is a point to point race with a co-driver giving you instructions on the course. Then there's Trailblazer which is like Rally but you have no co-driver and there are opponents on the course, granted everyone starts about 10 seconds befor/after eachother but it's still possible to overtake/be overtaken by opponents. Next you have Raid, it has multible people racing at the same time with "split" course options to mix it up, essentially you can go right or left, one way may be shorter or longer but you still end up at the same point. Now thers Land Rush, you start out side by side with your opponents and just race, of course there are jumps and water hazards to worry about. And last but not least you have Rally Cross, this involves tight tracks with mixed surfaces which allow for a multitude of ways to have fun. On top of all that you have the X-Games, which is just a mix of three from ^^above^^, but the racers are harder and it really requires some skill to win these. After winning them you win a special car that is not avaiable any way els, these cars are really good and are more then worth the effort. Next we have the cars, the cars are split into there own racing event but some can be used for multible events. Each car is ballenced in its own way, some cars may have a tendency to oversteer and some might like understeer, but weather your using the first car or the last, no one is better than the other, some are just better in different situations. My personal favorit is the Subaru Impreza WRX STi AKA Ken Blocks car, it just fits my play style. Each car has its own set of liveries, toys, and horns for your plesure and it allows you to represent yourself. This brings me to pretty much my only large gripe of the game. In the original Dirt you could spen hours customising your ride handling to fit your prefference perfecly, and I liked that, it ha
Best game ever.
Ok lets start off with graphics. These graphics are better than Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3. I really can't see how they can improve there graphics, nothing is perfect but this is. Very long career, After playing 7 hours straight I am on 8%. You can put it on 5 modes; Easy, Casual, Hard, Expert, and Hardcore. I was playing on Easy so it was a bit easy but if you play for 7 hours on hard then you would have 2% complete. Very awesome crashes like barrel rolls. Online a same as career mode but with real people not computers and you can level up like you can in MW3. The sound is at a extreme level of awesomeness. A must buy.
