Clive Barker's Jericho
dont Judge a book by its cover
Even though the game got some bad reviews, its actually a really fun game, the controls are a little sketchy but it makes up for it in gameplay and story. I find it pretty cool how u can play as up to six characters with their own special weapons and "powers", and plus a priest with two desert eagles(14 round clips) brings a new meaning to religion, plus the weapons are freaking amazing looking probably the best gun graphics in my opinion besides Bad Company. ANyways this game is awesome and its worth the price it says. Plus this is probably one of the actual horror games that will maybe scare you, cause it was written by the guy who did Hellraiser "Pinhead". But enough of that stuff lets just say the game is awesome. So there is the review and hope it helps.
Jericho has its' faults.
I must admit that although Jericho looks great, the controls will ultimately spell doom for this horror holiday entrant. While playing the demo, I discovered that the first person point of view really works poorly in this game. There are points in the game where you are being attacked and cant even see where you are. Now, the argument could be made that this is more realistic, but I say that when you're playing a game like this, third person point of view works much better. Also, when you're being attacked, climbing, etc., they use that really annoying "press the right button quickly and accurately" scheme that just ends up being a repetative time waster. I truly was hoping that this was going to be "the game" of the early holiday season. I can't help but to feel a bit let down. Looks like Oblivion, Game of the Year edition will have to last me until Resident Evil 5 and Silent Hill 5. I'm saving my money and letting Jericho sink back into the desert.
I had very low expectations of this game when I first saw the FMV trailer. I thought "This may be a bit too ambitious for Codemasters." I was skeptical. I just downloaded the demo on PS3 and XBOX360 and I was impressed. The premise of the story is really interesting, incorporating different time periods into one game to mix up the themes with a biblical interpretation that you can sink your teeth into....keeps it fresh. The controls were familiar and not complicated. I also appreciated having so many different characters to play, each with their own unique powers, strengths, and weaknesses. Being able to issue simple commands the other characters (a la Ghost Recon) is cool too. To me, this adds to its replay value. I can play scenarios over and over using different strategies and characters. I can't wait for this game to be released. I think Clive and Codemasters have a hit on their hands!!!
ONE OF THE BEST in the horror FPS genre!
When I first saw Jericho on ads I didn't really think too much of it, well, it proved me wrong after I played the demo off PSN! I must say it is ONE OF THE BEST in the horror FPS genre in terms of game play! You can switch among different squad members, and each member possesses a unique power that comes in handy in different situations, for example, long range shots to take down demons on higher ground, telekinesis to remove large road blocks etc. It just brings out the essence of a true squad based game and you'll never feel like prefering one player over the other like many other sqaud based games such as X-Men(I think the whole time I was giving preferential treament to Wolverine). On top of the excellent game play, the sound tracks also change as the team moves into a danger zone, to match the mood & pace...it just brings the creepiness to a whole new level!
I just played the demo and it scared the crap out of me lol This game definately looks to be the greatest horror game of 2007. Obviously games like RE5 and Dead Space are gonna be the best in 2008, but i dont feel like wating till then to get a great game like this. The controls are great, all the supernatural powers remind me of Bioshock which is cool, and the movement of the characters is so perfect! Its not like u can straff up stairs at the same speed as if u were running straight up, (nice touch) and i'd have to say my favorite part is when that asian chick with the knife goes down the little tunnel and u have to press the right buttons accordingly otherwise u fall to ur death (splat!!) and when u have to press like triangle, circle, square, then X and u watch ur chick kick the crap out of the monster, that was amazing! So interactive cant wait to get it!
Bought the game a week ago and just finished it. Very good story, hard to understand at times but very cool nevertheless. Controls are hard to manage at first but i master them by mid game. The shooting feels very accurate and the magic on the characters is a plus. The games never gets frustrating but it's not a piece of cake either. Overall a good game, the most fun I've had for the last few months with a game. Highly recommended!!
A little note about the author of the story
The author of the story wrote such horror moves as Hellraiser. He made this game to basically just tell a story rather than emphasize on game modes and alot of weapon options. If your looking for a game that is multiplayer and has crazy customization options this is problem not for you. If your into a great story, then i would pick this game up.
I Like It!
It's good but I seen better first person shooter games better than this. Besides the fact that Clive Barker's Jericho was a descent first person shooter it has a nice background of story telling and enemies to kill. Though at times the game is repetitive and the visuals ain't good the game easily makes it on gunplay. The game has special charcters for the player to chose and with that has their own loadout. The boss fight were pretty bad and the quick time events are a bit slow, The 3/3 of the game nails it. But my question is will the game have any sequel?!!
I played the demo on Xbox Live and found the graphics to be about as good as Gears of War, and that's saying a lot. However, some of the gameplay just didn't grab me. I'm not sure I can put my finger on it, but maybe it's that it seems to be pretty standard fare for an FPS. I didn't like the idea of the spirit of a fallen comrade just moving from character to character (which enables you to play as any character you want on the fly). That just didn't sit right with me. Maybe I'll give it another play and see if I change my mind. I think I'm more looking forward to Timeshift and Haze.
Best $3 I've ever spent
Just picked this up, and i must say... for the money is fantastic. It's 7 years old and still looks pretty good. The only thing that irks me is the fact that there is no aiming down sights. However, at the time this game was released that was a new thing (COD4). I haven't finished it yet, but the story is solid so far (Thanks to Mr. Barker). it is quite linear, but as i said earlier, its an older game, and it had a fairly low budget. For the price, I am FAR from disappointed. It's worth it for the story alone.
