Interesting take on the Morals of Relationships
This game is quite interesting indeed, the overall appeal is most certainty meant to appeal to male gamers, more so than female gamers. That probably goes without saying...however through the twists and turns and unique puzzles this game has an rather unusual way of teaching both sexes about the importance and responsibility of a relationship. The story is "in your hands" the endings are numerous, and the feel can be joyous or sorrowful...will you feel bad for the protagonist Vincent Brooks, or happy that the ending you get is satisfying to your taste. Will he make the decision to be with Katherine or Catherine...or will he be alone.
This game has 8 different endings and that alone is more incentive to re-play this game time and again. With Hidden Trophies, and moral dilemmas your choices are all too important...
How will your story End?

Hardcore puzzle with a story
Pros = difficulty setting, replay value, unique, 0 dlc, multiplayer
Cons = short gameplay
Worth = Just rent it if you don't want deluxe edition
This game is very unique and different, but not completely out there like titles such as "Flow." Catherine in a nutshell is a puzzle that has a mature story with a little horror and dating sim mixed in. Gameplay is like cubix meets frogger as you climb and hop to the top of the towers in the game. The voice acting is well done and it has a lot of cinematics like Asura's Wrath. The only downside to this game is the 1st playthrough will only take you from 10 to 20 hours to beat in the single player, but it has a lot of replay value. You can keep playing it over and over again to get the 8 different endings. Then you can tackle the multiplayer and Babel which has 4 randominzed stages. Also, don't worry about saving money for download content because there isn't any. Which is nice knowing, dlc can get annoying sometimes.
The contents in the deluxe edition is alright. The pillow is absolutely beautiful, boxers & shirt are plain, the pizza box is what you expect, and the artbook with the sound track are okay.

OMG I LOVE IT...P.S. Don't Read :P
This Game Is Fantastic. I Have Been Dying To Get This game Ever Since I've Been reading Reviews Of How Challenging It Was. The Deluxe Edition Was Really Selling Out Around My Area, I Had To Store Hop Around VA And MD All Day. Finally Got My Hands On The Last One. Anyways The Boxer/Shirt Was Pretty Nice And Gosh I Loved The Pillow Cover. The Book Wasn't Hard But It Was Simply Nice, And The Soundtrack Remixes Was Pretty Good.(Well cause I Like Classical Music Myself and All). Ok Gameplay Was Extremely Stunning, at First I Tried Out Hard Mode Died Like 12903912083419204809823098 Times Lolz. So I Made Another Account On Normal To Get Used To The Game Find Strategies And The Such. Forget It I'm Not Gonna spoil Anything Just Got To Say This Game Is great Characters And The Anime Like Parts Were Just Amazing. I HAVE YET TO FINISH THE GAME. OTAKU FTW ....PSN- NoMi-o_O-LuFFy-

Unique Experiance.
I barely picked up my Catherine Deluxe edition yesterday afternoon and I enjoy saying I appreciate the random goodies the set came with. The boxers and shirt are actually pretty cool and fit me quite well (I'm 6' and about 175lbs) The artbook isn't hardcover sadly but it is neat although not very lenghty. I've yet to listen to the music disc so i can't review that. The games intro is interesting and ingame music is cool stuff. The puzzles take some talent to do i'm not gonna lie. On normal difficulty I died like 7 times before going to bed on just the second level. But i was tired (was playing 12am-2am) so i'll be playing it again soon. If you're looking for a refreshingly different new game with challenging gameplay, than i suggest you give Catherine a try.

Cool.
I've been wanting to play this game ever since I heard about it from a persona live journal community. I'm a fan of these sorts of game playing persona 3 + 4 and Portable as well as the others on the PS2 console. I'm glad I pre-ordered the game but also worried that my receipt has faded slightly. ;-;

Addictive
I had a bit hesitant to buy this as a Japanese import because i dislike puzzle games, i am more of a RPG fan, and i like my games to be graphiclly rich and flashy, while having the element of progress.
The one thing that appealed to me is the anime art style of this game, when you're playing it, it's alot like watching a movie, and then playing a game at the same time, it's hard to describe but it is indeed a very unique feeling. My first thought with this was "Great, wonderful art destroyed by a puzzle game" but really it has alot of depth to it that can only be experienced by playing it. The transition between cutscenes and in game are very close, it isn't enough to break your immersion during scene switches.
My only compaint is how difficult it was, without any spoilers, a few hours in and i found myself frustraited from things i felt like shouldn't have happend, the difficulty of the game is extreme even on a normal setting, keep in mind this was the Japanese import version and i did not access the patch they made to make it easier, the NA release should be a challenge even with the lower difficultypatch, in perspective, in some cases, you had to be lucky to finish some of the nightmares.
I would absolutly reccommend this game to any sort of player, FPS, RPGer, casual/hardcore, i don't see why anyone would dislike this game unless you are absolutly appauled by anime characters, in which, that isn't the games fault.
The controls are fluid, atleast for the Playstation 3, i cannot speak for the Xbox, The controlls feel as if they are in the perfect place with the american standard set up (japan switched X, and O) it did not have any response delay and that i was thankful for since timing in this is crucial down to the second, fantastic control response!
My personal review 8/10 - (Spoiler-ish) - You see alot of teasing scene's but never any actual nudity, which is slightly dissapointing considering atleast one instance would have made my opinion of it a tiny tiny bit better, they lead you on with alot of adult motions and talk but it's lacking that one "Wow they showed her!" scene that just never took my breath away but felt like it was leading up to it. Some people would rather not know or see the girls, there is one spacific scene where you can catch a glimps, but good luck, it's 1 frame out of 29 frames per second-she's on the bed hint hint.
And finally, the difficulty was horrid, atleast on the JP version, i can't get over how awful a few of the stages were, i'm not the best puzzle, figure-outter but good greif it was one of the most challenging games i have ever tried.
On top of that, there is a coliseum arena type thing where you can go head to head with another player after you have completed the story scenario, So this is where people who are competitive, such as FPS/fighters can show off some skills against another player. it also adds a bit of longevity to the games life.
Thank you for taking the time to read this review, i hope you will give this a try and enjoy it as i did.

Simply amazing!
I have been waiting for this game, for over a year now, ever since I heard it was being released in Japan. At the time I wasn't even sure if America was going to see the game. I was fully prepared to buy an international copy if necessary. Atlus is a great video game company, when it comes to the JRPG catergory. They usually tend to break away from what's normal in the JRPG community and make it unique. If you enjoyed Persona or any of the other games in the Shin Megami Tensei world, there's a good chance Catherine is the game for you. I definitely plan on getting the Deluxe Edition, if I can afford it. Who wouldn't want that awesome t-shirt with heart containers reminiscent of Zelda in the NES days?
