BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger
Arc System Works Does it AGAIN!
Arc System Works is truly making a name for itself in America these days, what with constant Guilty Gear updates and connections with Sega and Aksys Games. Being the Spiritual Successor to Guilty Gear, it comes as no surprise that Blazblue plays very smoothly and uniquely. Even if you do have your Sol and Ky look-a-likes, they seem to play almost nothing like their predecessors. The 3 main attack buttons (A,B,C) are accompanied by a Drive Button (D, marked as X by default) which unleash character specific special moves, Such as Rachel's control of the wind, Ragna's powerful, life-leeching, vampiric sword techniques, and Bang's MANLY BURNING HEART, which sees through enemies pitiful attacks and counters with a fiery barrage leading up to the most feared moment; the activation of his Bang Install (Fuu-Rin-Ka-Zan or Fire, Water, Air, and Mountain in some order like that.), in which he glows a manly gold and overrides everyone's music with his own theme about how awesome he is! The game is extremely balanced even with what may seem like broken Drive advantages, but in a way, it all plays out really well, and the team at ASW, paid close attention to every single detail you could have possibly though of. The story line starts off as VERY confusing, but don't let that daunt you any bit! In all truthfulness, once you've finished everyone's true endings, you'll start to see everything piece together through the eyes of all the characters. Some questions have yet to be answered of course, though a lot of them are about to be answered in the near console release of Blazblue: Continuum Shift. One of the most unique things in this game happens to be the voice acting and the character development. Compared to GG, these characters blow your Sol's and Ky's out of the water! There are several battle scenarios in which both of the characters actually converse with each other, as well as have different quotes during attack execution. One common one is Jin crying "THIS ISN'T FUN AT ALL!" as he gets beat down by Ragna, and Bang's constant pleas for Litchi to jump into his "Manly Arms." Iron-Tager (this series' Potemkin, if you will) also has a lot of back story with Litchi and it shows in their battles. As you play through story mode and arcade mode, you'll see that each of the characters seem to have something unique to say about their opponent, instead of using just one or two measly victory lines. With a clean battle system and completely lovable characters (or one or two characters you'll love to hate), it makes it hard to say that this game ISN'T Fighting Game of the Year. Move over Street Fighter, and pack your bags KoF. A new series is in town and it's kicking butt and taking names.
Top Rate 2D Fighter
BlazBlue is one of those 2D fighters that you'll just keep coming back to. Compared to many games it is very balanced and has a very unique cast of characters that I really enjoyed. Unfortunately there was only 12 of them and would have liked to see more in addition to some of the voice-overs being annoying. I I thought the soundtrack was fantastic and really rocked hard. The single player was nice and had some funny moments throughout. This is a fast paced game that is best suited for gamers with some experience in this genre. Even though the game is 2D, the graphics were very bright and clean looking. The game at its core has very good mechanics that will make this a must have for fans of fighting titles.
#1 2D fighter.
This game is incredible right off the start. Characters all have really different play styles, no single person is the same in any way. They've implemented a really neat little 'noob' button for doing special moves using the right stick by pushing it up, left, down, or right. Which is really nice for good action gameplay. The story is really in depth, although the english voice over's have that slightly english dubbed anime feel to it; but only during the story sections. Gameplay voices are all really well done. Characters will even have different sayings when going against other fighters. I was having only a little trouble trying to play online, clicking to join a room that is 1/6 players and i get 'room is full' message. Then once I tried to make my own room, and someone joined then it was really laggy, up until we fought. There are rooms setup so that you can play with or without that special move stick, with or without ultimate characters. Rooms for new players or expert players etc. You can save the replays of any fight you have from online. There's a really big list of unlocks from pics, and vids really. This game has a lot of room for download content. This game is very enjoyable, and is the best 2d fighter on the market today. Probably going to be an update real soon to fix any online issues, if any, it could just be my connection. Any fans of anime, will enjoy this game as well.
Great for anime fans.
If you like anime fighting games than this game is great for you. The game can be fast pace so if you like action packed games then this is for you.
