BEYOND: Two Souls
Decent Game, Disappointing Special Edition
I am currently 3-4 hours into Beyond and while every technical aspect of the game (graphics, sound, control mechanics) are the best that Quantic Dream has ever done, I'm just not feeling drawn in as much due to their insistence on having the story jump ALL OVER THE PLACE. I mean, you go from kid Jodie to adult Jodie to high school Jodie back to kid Jodie to college age Jodie.... There was one point where I didn't know WHERE I was in the timeline. I understand the concept of using flashbacks to tell a story but this is ridiculous. There needs to be some sense of continuity in order build and emotional bond to these characters, otherwise it just comes off as a series of seemingly random events. But that's not my big problem. Even though the greater picture may or may not pan out, the individual segments so far have been enjoyable. My big gripe is with the manner in which this Special Edition was handled. The European Special Edition gets a very nice clear plastic sleeve that goes over the steelbook and overlays the title. The spine of the steelbook is also black, relying on similar overlaying for the title. We get a cardboard sleeve that COMPLETELY COVERS the steelbook and looks just like the standard edition. Now I buy Special Editions of games as much for their display-ability as their extra game content. And when we get an otherwise nice steelbook that is covered by a lazily designed cardboard sleeve, it just makes the entire steelbook pointless as it doesn't distinguish on my shelf. And I don't want to throw away the sleeve because I like keeping my games and movies complete. The Euro version also gets a manual that we're stiffed out of. I know that the Euro version runs those guys a tad more than their standard version. I would have GLADLY paid a few bucks more for our version to be at parity with theirs.
If you are a fan of Heavy rain get this
I am giving up 3 ps3 games that I really want one of them is the new Tomb Radar that came out earlier this year and I usually don't give those games up for no game not even GTA and I never buy games that are 60 bucks but for this I'm doing it. I played Heavy rain last month and that is my favorite ps3 game now so I have a feeling this is going to be good.
it's going to be a great game this year cool!
I'm happy about this game because Ellen page is a good actor in this video game. I'm happy I'ts coming out 10-8-13!. I'ts like heavy rain when you play it you know I'm happy i'ts coming soon.
Pretty good game..
Beyond: Two Souls has a unique storyline and a strong female main character (the best kind of main characters) and the graphics are phenomenal. I really like the music backing the game and another thing I like is how you can choose different endings and how it's pretty much impossible for you to die even if you screw up. I found that screwing up was a pretty easy thing to do in this game, considering that the controls were confusing and it has the prompt-less interaction things where you move where she's going to finish her movement or whatever. Sometimes I was like, "What? Where is she swinging?" and then I'd get knocked off my feet. I felt limited with her movements. The constant trophy-giving is pretty sweet, so if you're trying to catch them all then this game is a good way to get some easily (I just don't like how you have to play the game duo mode in order to get them all). The emotions were strong in this game, I cried a little, so good job Quantic Dream. You should definitely play this game, it has a plot that you would regret missing.
Great Story line and Voice Actors
I'm usually only an Xbox fan, but Beyond: Two Souls pulled me to the PS3. Sure, some of the graphics are off and it can be sort of hard to turn around, but, the story is amazing. The way it spans 15 years of a girls life is intelligent and each segment has something new to offer. Plus, I always like "new fighting styles" (not that it's really fighting). Jodie and Aidan rank in my top five "duo's" in video games. The story is especially touching and I feel like the game may have received a tough rap from some game reviewers. I, however, thank that it's great for gamers that like great story lines!
An Interactive Movie
Through the time I've been playing Beyond, I've been mind blown. Not only does the game look impressive, it plays wonderfully. One thing you need to know about this game, IT IS NOT AN ACTION GAME. The game is beautifully designed, and by far has the best graphics on current gen consoles. The story is gripping, and does what most games fail to do, make you feel for the characters. One of the things most people don't understand about this game is that it's not focusing on action or intense gameplay. For instance IGN gave this game a 6/10, one of the reasons because the game had "poor combat mechanics". I honestly felt that this game had the best combat mechanics in any of Quantic Dream's games yet. This game is touching, exciting, and overall mind blowing. I'd give this game a 9.75/10.
I've watched Ellen Page act in the movie 'Hard Candy' and she's amazing! I thought 'Heavy Rain' was the best useage of Playstation 3's hardware out of every known game. It drew you into the story, made you emotional, even cry, to me that's what gaming should be about. Not just mindless first-person killing. 'Beyond: Two Souls' looks even better than 'Heavy Rain', and that's very hard to say. 'Heavy Rain' looked fantastic, but this looks jaw-dropping, realistic in every fashion, right down to every little motion captured smile and movement. I recommend 'Heavy Rain', but I highly-recommend getting 'Beyond: Two Souls' once it's released. Who knows we may see Ellen Page in a Playstation 4 next-gen title that blows our minds. She's beautiful and a fantastic Actress. William Defoe, the Green Goblin from the Spider-man films also stars in this game. His game counter-part looks identicle to the real-life man as with Ellen. Replayability on 'Heavy Rain' was immeanse, you could beat it and go back too discover a whole new story. I hope that 'Beyond: Two Souls' offers even more replayability. I cannot recommend buying 'Heavy Rain' more than I have, and don't dare miss 'Beyond: Two Souls.' Quantic Dreams knows how to make a game extremely memorable. Trust me, I'm a gamer of 39 years.
Looking Great :D
I preordered this about 2 months ago and I can't wait for its release, the steelbook looks great, can't wait for the soundtrack and the 30 minute additional gameplay is going to be awesome the fact that this game covers 15 years of Jodie's life is awesome, I have never experienced a game that you have been through 15 years of someones life, that is fresh, brand new and this different from a lot of other games that are coming out, of course you still have some other awesome looking games such as Saints Row 4 which in my opinion is better than GTA because the entire game is absolute mayhem but enough about that because this is about Beyond: Two Souls, I can honestly say I thought of IGN when I saw this but I knew they would be all over this game, also you have the great voice actors: Juno and The Green Goblin. (Ellen Page And Willem Dafoe, I can honestly say this will be a game worth buying even though it hasn't released I have seen enough to jump to conclusions. I can honestly say I recommend it.
This game is absolutely amazing. The story is very interesting and the gameplay is a lot of fun. The reviews that rate this game low are way off. I read IGN's review and the girl that wrote the review had me worried that I was making a bad purchase but I went and bought the game anyway. I must say, I am very glad that I chose to go out and buy the game. I enjoyed playing the game and I think story was absolutely amazing. The story was deep and very interesting. Great job to David Cage and the rest of Quantic Dream for making a great game. Also awesome job to Ellen Page, she made this character so great and interesting. Her skills as an actor truly do shine threw this game. I highly recommend this game to all gamers who have a PS3.
Cannot Wait for release
I played Heavy rain and I absolutely loved the game. Now Quantic Dream and David Cage have outdone themselves by creating an amazing game with Oscar nominees Ellen Page and Willem Defoe. I played the Demo courtesy of Gamestop and it was heartstopping action and storytelling all the way. I hope the rest of the game measures up to the demo. Definately A must play experience for any PS3 owner.
