Baja 1000: Score International
Not even worth renting
I hate to write bad reviews but this game deserves one. With a license of Score International: Baja 1000 I was hoping this game would take the cake over Baja: Edge of Control, not the case. This game should have been made for the PSOne or PS2 at best. The graphics are a disgrace, all the vehicles sound the same. Baja: Edge of Control was awesome it just lacked bikes, when I saw this game had bikes I couldn't wait. It was so bad I bought it one day and returned it the next only playing it maybe an hour just to see if it would at least get better. It really is too bad because there are not enough of these types of games on the PS3 since developers are more concerned with zombies and sci-fi games. Even if you are new to racing games or think you are the guy that will oversee the shortcomings of this game I assure you you won't. Sorry to say, if you want to play a cool MX game play MX vs. ATV Untamed. That game has good graphics, a crazy amount of bike/rider customization (even if it is just for looks) and there are still people to this day playing it online...the downside? No mic support online,
PS2 graphics on PS3...time warp anyone?
I was really hoping that Baja 1000 was going to be a decent off-road racing game especially since the PS3 doesn't have much to offer currently in this category. The first thing I noticed was the sub-par graphics. Baja 1000 looks like a PS2 game in PS3 packaging. Framerate is OK without any pop up or choppy animations. Baja 1000 is seriously lacking in the sound department. Minor differences, if any, between vehicle types. Again, a throw back to PS2 games of yesterday. Menu and racing soundtracks are decent with current bands etc. Vehicle control in Baja 1000 is OK if you're not up for any real challenge. Terrain seems to have little affect on vehicle suspension. It's very easy to slide around any given turn without so much as a tap on the brakes! Collisions with other vehicles also seem to have little affect on your vehicle regardless of type. Overall, sub-par graphics and sound, more arcade like even though Baja 1000 carries the "Official" tag in the title. If you're looking for a realistic sim of off-road Baja style racing, look elsewhere. Personally I would recommend Colin McRae's "Dirt" for sim fans and "Motorstorm: Pacific Rift" for those looking for an arcade like challenge.
A riot in 2-player mode!
We wanted a game so the people in our family could just race against each other now and then. We just have a blast with Baja, including ages 10-45. The different vehicle classes are lots of fun. Some of the timed challenges are really hard in career mode so that delivers a big test which is at times frustrating but makes it so it's not boring. I would say it's the best money I've spent on a game just because of all the laughs we have racing head to head through the tracks and all the funny things that happen. It's also fun exploring the different routes or 'shortcuts' and seeing who can go where and what route suits each of us best. It's just fun like a family game should be.
