Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky
I love the Atelier series, however, I wouldn't really recommend any of the games to a friend because they're the kind of niche I like. This game? I would recommend to everyone. The battle system is super fun, and even creating items is fun. I enjoy how much control you have over the items and how the items you create are used in the game moreso than in past series. My favorite part is having Logy there to create weapons instead of going to a blacksmith. Really, you have so much control over this game and I love and adore it. And the best part is the fact that they really pulled it off. Is this game perfect? No, not really, but it's very fun and enjoyable. I would recommend it to those that have and have not played an Atelier game before. It's a little different, but I was pleasantly surprised by this game.
I love playing JRPGs for their plots. I played Atelier Meruru and although the story wasn't very deep, it was a story and it had fluidity from beginning to end. This one however, it dragged on forever to get to the climax point of the story, and as soon as you do, the next stage of that climax I finished accidently what was apparently the final stage! (less than an hour). I just went to explore the stage, accidently went too far and got to the boss fight and it was soooooooooo easy I was like, something big is going to happen, right? Nope, that WAS the final boss, and the story as far as the main plot was over. I was so disappointed. I've never beat a final boss without at least having my struggling for more than 30 or 40 minutes. The sidequest bosses were 100x harder. As far a gameplay, I enjoyed it very much. It was much easier in a sense than Atelier Meruru because they would actually replenish the items you carried in your bag so you didn't have to waste your time synthesizing more or registering your synthesized items to purchase more healing or attack items, just the items you needed for all other synthesis. Changing in between characters during battle was also great, specially with the added special attacks that occured. If you're into games due to game play, you'll probably enjoy this one. However, if you were looking to be entertained by the story, this will severely disappoint you.
Finally a new Atelier game with a male lead and a refined battle system. It's been a while since gust released a new Atelier series with male lead since Atelier Iris series. I hope gust will also released the new Atelier Rorona remake in the future. Can't wait for this game.
