Virtua Quest is a game that had plenty of potential, but it was squandered away. To get the high points out of the way, the music is great and the graphics are good for their time. Now for the bad. Voice acting in the game is pretty "meh," and the combat system resembles a beat-em-up more than a fighting game, so it doesn't have a whole load of depth to it. Being able to make your own customizable fighter sounds like a plus, but there's not a lot of depth to the system, and while you can equip power-ups, you are severely limited as to how powerful and how many. Rather than growing bigger as you progress through the game, your equipment cube remains the same size throughout the entire game. The story is okay, but the storytelling is awful. J6 stays in the shadows for most of the game, so it's never quite clear exactly what they've been doing, save for the leader (and that only accounts for close to the end of the game). Level design and platforming are pretty mediocre, and you aren't able to do certain things that were shown of in trailers. All in all, this game feels rather unfinished and unpolished.
