the start of the next tennis games, get it its pretty good
Top Spin puts some top spin on Tennis
The Top Spin Tennis Franchise covers nearly every gamesystem from the PS2 to the XBox 360 but even the most gamesystem spanning games can be disappointing. But, it is a relief to know that the PS2 version of Top Spin is not part of that kind of franchise. With easy pick-up-and-play controls you can learn in less than hour and with completely customizable characters you don't have to be a hard core tennis player to appreciate this game. It includes options like exhibition matches were you can play as Roger Federer, Andy Roddick, Maria Sharapova and more (including your customized character!) Custom tournaments full of these players, and the Career mode. In the career mode you get to completely customize your character from their hairstyle to their socks and shoes as well as pick their hand domination, backhand and serve styles and whether they are a defensive, powerful, or technical player. This can take a while, sometimes an hour or longer depending on what you are looking for in a player. For example, you have to pick their DNA strand which decides their skin color and height options. If you are looking for a player that is five foot five you have to try multiple DNA strands to find the one that is right. Another downside is that the menus load very, very slow. It can take a full minute or more to load the choices for your character or load a tennis court that really isn't that complex. It is fun though to be able to completely customize your character and to also be able to use an EYE Toy webcam to put your personal pic on the game. After you have created your character you can travel around the world competing in tournaments and gaining rank. You also can pay to improve certain skills like your serve, forehand, backhand volley. You get 14 stars to allocate to these four groups. You can also pick a sponser and get special gear from them as well as tons of coin. The tennis matches can be very challenging requiring you to execute serves you wouldn't normally. And rank doesn't always mean they are good or not. In certain cases a rank 23 unkown is known to beat Roger Federer pretty badly. This game also includes a fun multiplayer mode in which you can play each other or play doubles together or even against each other. So let's recap... Pros: Customizable player(s) Challenging Career mode Online Play (requires Phone Line connection) Realistic gameplay and shots Pick-up-and-play controls Multiplayer mode Cons: Slow, sluggish menu Graphics are Ok Can only have two profiles Background sound is less than engaging No Andre Agassi The Bottom Line: Even with these cons this game is worth every penny and will provide hours of endless fun for you and friends. No experiance required with easy controls. Endless match combinations Top Spin is bound to hit an ace with you and your family.
