Rated 10 out of 10 by WARRIOROFTIME Yet another worthy title of the Genesis!!
I own every Genesis system that's ever come out. (I already own this as I do all other Shining titles!!) My favorite of course it the Master System. To you losers out there that's the main Genesis. Followed closely by the Saturn;love the name. The truly great RPGs always seem to come out on systems that are doomed from the begining; which is a crying ass shame as the Genesis is a great system. About the RPGs for the Genesis; they have made some truly remarkable games including the Shining series. What I love about them is the hero always sets out to better and/or prove himself worthy either to himself or to someone. The characters I love most; the most endeering(can't spell worth a damn) are always elves; the most beautiful & fair of all races. I have nothing but love & respect for Sega & its immortal systems! LONG LIVE SEGA, THE IMMORTAL!!!
Rated 8 out of 10 by Achi It was a good game with the potential to be a great game.
Negatives First- Negatives #1&2- Two bad things which you'll notice right off the bat, the graphics leave a lot to be desired, and the load times between levels are on the long side. Normally when the graphics are bad you end up with a better load time, but that doesn't seem to be the case with this game. Negative #3- The opening movie before the title screen gets you into thinking that there will be some okay cutscenes, but this game disappoints you yet again and there isn't a single animated cutscene in the game. Negative #4- There is only one save file allowed per memory card. Negative #5- The game play is hack and slash style, without very much strategy to it, so if that isn't your thing then this game isn't for you. If you still are reading this after all that then you deserve to hear the positives. Positive #1&2- It's multi-player. When you go out to fight you bring a partner with you, so it offers you the option of your partner being AI or player controlled. This is a useful feature because normally a human player is better than the computer, and it makes the final levels easier, not to mention on top of that it's FUN. Friends can use a different memory card with their own file and you can train your characters together. Positive #3- So let's say you don't have a friend who'll play with you and you have to select AI control, you can still control your partner if you want to. Using the second analog stick you can position your partner wherever you want and then the AI will take control of attacking again. Positive #4- There is some minor customizations of items, nothing to be too excited over, and you can trade items with your friends who have a different file on another memory card. Positive #5- When you play with a friend you aren't forced to be the main character. You can choose from any of the characters you've unlocked and that is probably one of my favorite features. If you choose a character other than the main one then it become more strategy and less "Line them up so I can kill them". Positive #6- The story is great, if it had animated cutscenes it would have been AWESOME on the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts level. Positive #7- It's a good challenge. Not too hard, not too easy. It's hard enough to make you wish you had a friend play with you, yet easy enough that you don't need them. Overall I would give this game an 8.5 but personally it is my favorite game in the Shining series.
