Shin Megami Tensei: NOCTURNE
ONE OF THE BEST RPG'S I'VE EVER PLAYED
What an incredible RPG. Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne is about a boy (you) who witnesses the destruction of Tokyo along with the world and its up to you to reshape the world by your actions and consequenses. There's ALOT more to the story but saying anymore would definately ruin what is a very unique, very dark, and very mature story. It must also be said that SMT Nocturne is HARD. SUPER HARD. In my honest opinion its the hardest RPG that i've ever played. Your going to die... ALOT, but its just so good that you'll keep pushing foward to get to that next chapter. As you progress through the game you'll also try to convince/capture demons to add to your ever evolving squad so that they can help you on your quest. Its sort of like Pokemon but instead of cute little creatures its hellish monsters. Just know that if your into RPG's then you MUST play this game. It's insanely hard to find but if you do manage to find a copy by all means get it, its just worth it.
Arguably the best turn based rpg of all time.
Nocturne might not attract many gamers from the start. But as you continue, everything unfolds. By everything i literally mean every aspect of the game. The Shin Megami Tensei series is known to have gameplay that will eat you up and spit you out if you aren't prepared. Give this game a chance by completing it, you won't be disappointed.
The most complete RPG ever designed
Shin Megami Tensei: NOCTURNE without a doubt it the greatest all around RPG ever made. Nocturne should be the standard by which all other RPGs should be judged. Nocturne combines the perfect balance of story complexity, solid turn based combat style and complete immersion into a brilliant world brought to life only as Shin Megami Tensei could provide. The seeming almost endless possibilities of fusion characters can easily draw you into playing this game for a hundred hours or more. This games style and graphical genius has spawned the also excellent Digital Devil Saga and Persona. I have played this game for hours on end and restarted it over at least a dozen times and continue to find it amazing every time I pick up the controller. This is must have game for any RPG gamer.
Smt Nocturne - Am I Ready?
NO, let me tell you this game is a hardcore gamers job only. This game isn't like poke'mon or kirby games this is 1000x harder than them combined. If you think your ready though then go and play the game and if you go for hard mode then I hope you like losing. There is a lot to this game so I suggest going to gamefaqs or something like that for a guide. Bellow are some good prep games: mega man 9, final fantasy 7 or 8, persona 3 or 4, and maybe digital devel saga, THEN ~MAYBE~ Nocturne. PS If you beat it on hard mode you are a !@#$ b!@#$!@#$
Defiantly not for everyone
First off I must make this very clear to people: If you are a fan of Persona 3, this game is much different. Just because they are both in the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, doesn't mean they are the same, or share the same style. I must also make it clear that this game is a lot harder than Persona 3, and I must stress this point, as this may be a turn-off for some people. The style is much different, and the overall game isn't as stylish as Persona 3. It must also be said that this is much, much darker than Persona 3, and if you are a christian, you will probably be offended in one way or another form this game. The story line is a post-apocalyptic one, with the twist that you are the one chosen to rebuild the Earth. This is accomplished through the standard RPG elements, battling, leveling up, etc. The combat is turn-based, and goes by random encounters, with a party system that shares some similarities with the pokemon franchise. You are able to recruit various demons to join your party, which is done by conversing with them (which may require bribery or some other extra method) or by a fusion system. I feel that this is the games strong point, as the rest of it seemed tedious to me. THe battle system is very simple, and fighting numerous battles to level up before progressing is an absolute must, more so than I have seen in any other RPG. Sound-wise, the game varies. Some of the soundtrack is excellent, adding to the mood very nicely. The quality of some of the tracks baffled me, actually sounding like an N64 game at a few parts. A very important detail is that there is not one line of spoken dialogue in this game. While veteran gamers may be used to this, it actually can hurt the gameplay experience for some people, as there are many terms you must remember, and not actually hearing them can confuse people. Graphically, the game is solid. The character models are nice, and fit the style of the game perfectly. However, the environments are clearly the games weak point, as they are very repetitive and ugly. It is very, very easy to get lost, and when in areas that you have to stay in for a while, it becomes an eyesore. Some closing thoughts: Ignore the fact that Dante from Devil May Cry is in the game, as he is very, very optional and has nothing to do with the main story. The game is very long, and seems stretched-out by the ridiculous time it takes to level up, and meaningless mazes where a better over world map could have replaced. This is a good game, but it is also overrated. There are many, many flaws, and the whole experience feels outdated. It is very pricey, and I would only recommend it to the most hardcore of gamers. If you are a Persona fan, looking for a similar experience, this probably isn't it for you.
