Shadow of the Colossus
Empty Game - Could not bare to finish it
You know how most of the latest games on PS3, 360, etc have been lacking in plot and overdosed on graphics? This is one of the games that started it. When I first saw this game as a child, it fascinated me. When I reached my late teens and read the details and reviews, I absolutely wanted it, but I honestly could not get past the 4th or 5th colossi. Not out of difficulty, but out of absolute boredom. I'm big on RPG and Adventure games, but this game truly did not have anything to look forward to. You have your trust sword and horse, you have your main objective, but the game lacks to add anything else. You repeatedly travel across a huge map without encountering any enemies or items or even sites to interact with. It's the same cheap adventure over and over again. Start off at the temple, find out what colossal monster is next, go out, fight it (As I stated, I believe I fought the first 5 and didn't have any difficulty whatsoever), beat it, go back to temple, find out about next monster, repeat.
Don't get me wrong, when you fight these colossi, it's epic. You're climbing on them and you don't bump into any of the reality issues that most games have. You can grab and climb on the colossi's hair and reach weakpoints and it can take a while to figure out how to beat them. It's all amazing and whatnot, but that's literally all the game has to it. The graphics on the map look amazing and the colossi are all unique, but I did not have the patience nor the interest in continuing the game. No smaller enemies to fight, no extra weapons (I think I remember having a bow), no items or interaction with anything except the colossi. I returned it 3 days after I bought it, despite so many of my friends telling me it was an awesome game.
This game is so amazing. The art style is something I could have never imagine being in a video game. The things you begin you ask and think are so deep. Why was mono sacrificed? Can Dormin be trusted? The music will appeal to everyone. I mean everyone.
"I would burn the world to save her" - Heros Die
Though it's been said hundreds of times before, I'll say it again: Shadow of the Colossus is a masterpiece, and one of the most breathtaking virtual experiences anyone could ever ask for. The game is far from conventional. The landscape, the gameplay, and the story are stripped to a bare minimal, something that sets games developed by ICO apart from the rest and are instantly recognizable. A series of sixteen colossi separate the protagonist, Wander, from the chance that a spirit sealed within The Forbidden Land that is rumored to have the power of resurrection, Dormin, will bring a woman who was sacrificed for her cursed destiny, Mono, back to life. With only an ancient sword, a bow, and his mare, Argo, to aid him, Wander risks his life again and again and slowly corrupts his body and soul for a goal that becomes ever more evident that he will likely never see come to fruition. He must kill a few of the only creatures alive in a desolate wasteland that reeks of death. The only gripe I have with this game is the fact that the camera will freak out occasionally, but nothing is completely perfect and it's like complaining about the spotty cell phone reception on the beach of your private island while your servants fan you and some butler stands there with a tray of Coronas and lime slices that doesn't come off creepy somehow. This game will bring you to the edge of your seat and make you sigh with relief as each colossi dies, leaving your hands so sweaty with apprehension, you'll wander why the controller hasn't shorted out and electrocuted you yet, before you wipe your hands on your pants so you can do it all over again.
Why the good ratings?
The whole game is boring. Intricate storyline sure but kingdom hearts had this storyline beat hands down. It's very repetitive. Kill a colossi, spawn in temple, go kill another one, spawn in temple again, kill another one and repeat. The landscape is huge but there's nothing in it. The developers just laid out a bumpy plain and by then half the game was already created then. No detail what so ever. Camera angles are atrocious and same with gameplay controls. Imagine going out into a rainforest, youd expect to see trees and animals. Now re-imagine that rain forest but with no trees, animals, textures, NOTHING. and there you have the terrain for this game. I thought there would be other stuff besides killing colossi but NOPE thats all you do over and over and over. This is one of the most over rated games of all time. Seriously pong is better than this.
WOAH. Just... WOAH.
All I can say is this game does not disappoint. It's a relatively short game, but it's still difficult enough to keep a hardcore gamer occupied for a while. This is one of the only games I have ever played that actually forces me to think (except Zelda games, am I right?) and it's a great change of pace. This is mindless button-mashing. This is a real game. Go buy it NOW! It's DEFINITELY worth it.
The Greatest game I ever played
I love this game. Better than Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim. This game has a mixture of hardness and easyness. So many Colossi and a secret garden. A forbiden land full of anceint ruins. With a ancient sword of power thy shall not be deffeated easly. This boy fights with hope and his dear horse argo. A very intelegent and fast horse the boy had as long as he could remember. These fable creatures are named after the guirdeins of the great garden. the great garden was a garden ruled by the god of giant size (colossal). The god none other than "Dorman". When he died he was the "god of shadow". When he sends you on a quest to free him his reward is to bring back his girlfreind. After Dorman death the souls of the guirians grew corupted or evil. The only way to free dorman is to free all corupted souls. But the catch is for Dorman to be free is he must enter a body and posses that body. So a sacrafice must be made! With all colossi equaly uniqe each one is harder to deffeat than another. While trying to defeat these colossal behemoths a shaymon makes thing harder. While the boy remembers stealing the sword of anceint power from that Shayman the boy still fights for the girl becoming more dark dirty and evil looking by every beaten colossi. By the 16th and last colossi you loss a great freind and a great horse Argo. As he goes on he has the hardest fight of his life. A living temple of Light awaits the heroic boy. After defeating all beast the boy becomes Dorman and the Shaymin arives his only thought revenge the Shaymin desecrates the boy into a baby Dorman. The girl awakens seeing you in the "pool of Dorman"takes you and you see Argo with a broken limb. She takes you and raises you for her own. I hope you enjoy the game as much as I did.
BEST GAME EVER CREATED
this is a game that you have to bring back your dead girlfriend from the dead. and in doing that you kill colossus.
This game is Lengendary
I really was close to rating this game 10/10 but let's be honest no game is perfect, although this one is close to it. Aside from long rides with your horse and getting lost sometimes, this game gives a unique gameplay experience whether climbing the butt hair of a 200ft colossus or spending time in the forbidden land kind of soul searching. The music in this game is indescribably mesmerizing, its so good, it's calm , peaceful , scary etc. which is why it's a 10. The Graphics may be a little outdated but still it's adds a pinch of finesse in the game, while still being amazing. This game needs to be in your cavalry, by it now.
This is the greatest game you will ever play its just amazing with a heart worming story. it was a butiful work of art, there is nothing else to say.. no one will ever come close to how this game was.
