Rated 10 out of 10 by KH_MASTER Captivating, and Challenging. Highly recommended game!
My first impression on Shadow of the Colossus when I bought it in the store was, do I really want this game? It looks like one of the games that nobody plays. And I was right. I've never met another person who has played this incredibly awesome game! And let me tell you, they are seriously missing out on, in my opinion, one of the best games created for the PS2! The storyline of this game is fantastic, and the controls are fun. A very challenging and puzzling game, that keeps you playing it for hours! It is rather a short game, with not much gameplay time, but it is so worth it! I love holding my sword up to the light to find the giants! The game has little talking, and if at all it's in an ancient language, with translated subtitles. Not any music, except in scenes, or when there are boss fights. And the bosses are the only things you fight. But each boss has a certain way of defeating it and it is so much fun! Shadow of the Colossus, is a game that you'll want to play over and over again!

Shadow of the Colossus is a game like no other. The sheer expansiveness of the world is astounding. With constantly changing lighting for each new area of the game, you truly feel like you're in a new world. The game is flawless. The only negative speculation is that this game was released before it's time. This game is for the PS2 gaming console, and we all know that the PS2 can only handle so much. I honestly believe that if this game was released for the PS3, that we would have one of the greatest games in the world. (It already is!! XD) The game is repetitive, but each colossi is different which makes each colossi a new challenge. The game itself is the most realistic game I have ever seen - minus the ability to live from high falls. You can't blame the creators though. The game itself is battling giant beasts!! Nothing more, nothing less. If you enjoy the idea of a hero toppling the most giant and ruthless creatures of all the land, then this game is for you =).
Rated 10 out of 10 by Rushian96 Epic. What else can I say?
One of the best games of all time and one of my favorites. Stellar in nearly every way. Where do I even start? The amazing graphics that can still hold up in 2011? The epic soundtrack? The innovative and challenging gameplay? The beautiful story with just the right amount of vague elements left open to interpretation by the gamer? The breathtaking sense of scale that makes the colossi feel lifelike? The stunning art design and environment that floors any of the series' of random clutter that populates most of today's gaming world? The only flaw I can think of is the camera. That's it. Everything else in SOTC is expertly polished and designed. This game is an epic, emotional, artistic journey with great gameplay to back it up. It's unique and there's nothing like it. Forgive the long length of this review buts that's just how much I love this game. If you even think that you are a gamer, than you need this game in your collection. Also, it's the perfect retort for people who think that games don't qualify as an art form.

This game was one of those games I rented back when I was 12 and I absolutely hated it because of how hard it was for my 12 year old mind to comprehend, and right after playing it for like 30 minutes...I took it back. I now own it due to how awesome it was when I re-rented it a couple years later. This game is HUGE...and I'm not referring to length. The amount of play area in this game is ridiculous...I just like to adventure around and try to find the apples on the trees or to just look at the time and amount of detail the developers put into this game. The colossus in this game make a very rare experience as well, I've never had so much fun trying to climb something in my life...no joke. For some reason they took a really awkward concept and made it an amazing cinematic experience that changed my outlook on video games. If all game developers though like the people who made this game...there would probably be more diversity among games. I would completely recommend this game for people who would like to explore. Please, try this game.
Rated 10 out of 10 by CK (colossi killer) AWESOME!!!!
This is by far one of the best games I have played in a long time. The game is nearly flawless, the sound is amazing, the colossi are intelligent and have a very good AI. The sound is also very good. You hear the water running and the colossi screaming in pain. The flaws though are the graphics and the camera. The camera takes a little while to get used to, and gets in the way at first but later it melds seamlessly with your movements. The other problem with the game is the graphics. They're not the best for the environment being that the light is very bright and almost whites out the screen, but everything else makes up for it because everything else looks amazing. The colossi are beautiful, and when you stab their weak spot the blood just gushes out and it looks great. Another good thing is the water is very realistic and the trees look nice too. So over all I give this game a 9/10, and it gives a lot of time well spent.
Rated 10 out of 10 by eP674 Extremely awesome
This game is one of the absolute best ever! first off, your slaying gigantic monsters, the colosuss, which is intese. What's even better, they're EXTREMELY detailed, so it's not like they're all "blocky", or whatever. And the movements that these colossi (I think that's the plural) do are fluent and not in a designated pattern. The expansive world you travel around in is another extremity. the details on the mountains, cliffs, geysers, and everything are all very well detailed. There are weather effects, such as rain and fog, that actually have effects on your character. Like during rain in a certain general area of the world map, it will start to rain. Your character will actually do things like putting his arm up to block his face, or if it's foggy, then he might be leaning forward to see in the fog. The only downside, as small as it is -literally -it's still not that bad. The only enemies are the colossi, and nothing else( there are some lizards, but they don't qualify as real enemies).Still, it's DEFINETLY worth the money, being that it's not even that expensive.

This is my all time favorite game. It is a story that stays with you and I just can't talk about it enough. This game is AWESOME!!! It is one of a kind - there is nothing to collect, no silly side quests, no health packs you need to get... it is just you, your horse, bow and arrow, and your sword. You have to fight 16 colossus to bring your girl back to life in this majestic huge open land with large cliffs and stone walls. Spread out in this area are these GIANTS that you have to kill one by one to bring the love of your life back. These creatures are awesome and even though they try and kill you, you still feel sadness and sympathy for them each time you kill one. The story and game are just great and everyone I know that has played this game loves it and trust me - this is a challenge. Give this game a try and you will love it to. It is one of a kind and leaves a feeling that doesn't leave you.
Rated 10 out of 10 Beautiful Game
I heard about this game a while ago and bought it. The first noticeable part about this game are it's graphics. They were great at the time that it was made and everything about it made it even better. I got rid of my PS2 and my games about a year ago and I now have a PS3. I am now going to get this game again because of how awesome it is. The story will be extremely confusing for players who haven't played the game Ico, with that fact Shadow of the Colossus is a prequel to it. The colossi are extremely fun to fight even after you've beaten the game a few times, and a cool thing is that when you beat the game, it unlocks hard mode and let's you re-load the last game and you can do time trials for the colossi and if you beat the time, you get special bonus items. Then when you beat hard, and you re-load the save and do the same thing, you get different bonus items. So you can't say it gets boring after the first time you beat it, at least in my opinion. The world is vast and full of secrets everywhere and you don't HAVE to go beat the colossi, you can go roam around looking at the sights and sounds.
Rated 1 out of 10 by TastyApricot Why the good ratings?
The whole game is boring. Intricate storyline sure but kingdom hearts had this storyline beat hands down. It's very repetitive. Kill a colossi, spawn in temple, go kill another one, spawn in temple again, kill another one and repeat. The landscape is huge but there's nothing in it. The developers just laid out a bumpy plain and by then half the game was already created then. No detail what so ever. Camera angles are atrocious and same with gameplay controls. Imagine going out into a rainforest, youd expect to see trees and animals. Now re-imagine that rain forest but with no trees, animals, textures, NOTHING. and there you have the terrain for this game. I thought there would be other stuff besides killing colossi but NOPE thats all you do over and over and over. This is one of the most over rated games of all time. Seriously pong is better than this.

Shadow of the colossus is my personal favortite Playstation 2 game ever. It is stunning, it's beautiful, I can not think of one thing wrong with this game. The graphics are top notch for a PS2 game, the whole world of Shadow of the Colossus is beautiful, I found myself awestruck many times while just running or riding the horse. The length is great, there are 16 Colossi to fight, and each is a challenge on their own. The music is great, it speeds up every time you are in danger, and slows down when you are not, the voice acting, however little there is, is good, even though it is in another language the game still has subtitles. The story, if you can understand the little bits and pieces, is amazing, nothing short of poetry. As for the controls, they can be a little hard to deal with, but once you get the hang of it you'll be playing for hours upon hours.
