Gameplay is fun, good story, and great pacing.
I really had no idea what this game was going to be about, but after reading the box I was like ohhhhh. The story is in Rome (duh) but it takes the assassination of Cesar to a whole different level. For one, you can actually have fun following the two stories. Octavius the blond guy who does all the spying and Aggripa the guy who does all the actual gladiator fights. By the way if your a fan of Gladiator this will definitely make you love that movie even more. The story has good pacing, and everything seems to flow pretty good. You can replay some of the gladiator arenas after your done with the game, but I personally just finished the campaign and that was it. Replay value is not that good but if you want a game with a good story that's like 20hrs or less then this is it, not to mention how close it comes to being historically accurate.

History Teachers Will Love This Game!
When I first played this game I thought"Great another hack and slash game with no story"oh how wrong I was. This game is like reading about the history of Rome without the annoying gods! The game is split up into two game plays. First lots of hack and slashing with many weapons to choose from. Second is stealth missions (these are my favorite!). There's also a short part where you guide chariots in races. In fighting you get to be as bloody and gory as you want(options menu can change blood to off or green or can make sure there is no gore.)the bloodier the better since crowds love gladiators arms being cut off! The story is mostly told through the stealth cut scenes and information you gather. One of the best things about stealth is if you have a banana peel you can through it on the ground and watch a person slip and fall on it. P. S. you might want to get away because when they get up they know who did that to them and you will get it! All in all this game is one of my favorites I would say anything about the story, but it's tons more engrossing if you figure it out yourselves! All in all from a scale of 1 to 10 a hundred!

Shadow over the shadow of an average game
I usually play as a Spartan in video games like this. In Spartan: Total Warrior (loved that game by the way) I had to hack and slash my way through hordes of Romans. This gave me strong hate towards them. I loved the movie 300(my favorite film of all time) and although only Persians were killed, Spartans were killing, and I love Spartans. Now that you understand how much Sparta means to me, on with the review. This game was a blast sometimes and a bore other times. The difficulty is a bit overdone. In the bad way. Most of the time it is too hard for beginners and the words "adaptive difficulty" doesn’t mean a thing to the creators. The battles, however, can be enjoyable. Very enjoyable. There are many different weapons in the game. The bad part about that is that you can only hold 2 at the same time. These weapons have a meter that indicates damage and when the meter kills, the weapon breaks. This is a unnecessary and unwelcome addition to reality in a video game. Aside from that, combat is never too brutal. The blood looks nothing near real but you do get some pretty cool finishing moves every once in a while. The graphics aren't too pretty. It's on the ps2, so you can’t expect much and it's sort of an old game so that adds. The sound design is not noticeable. It's not great, it's not bad, and it’s just there. The length is actually very good. Boss battles spread out in between with long (and I do mean long) cut scenes make it a lengthy experience. The story is something you will not enjoy. It is ripped straight from history class text books making a very boring edition to the game. It's separated into the Roman solider, and the wimpy stealth only guy. You will be skipping every cut scene except for the last few which are fairly interesting. In all, this is not a bad game. It's not exactly a good game either. It's just okay. There will be a lot to hate, including the most annoying, horribly designed, not thought through, worst game of all time. But at its core, this can be a fun game. You should ignore all the bad stuff and buy it. For its low price it's a good deal. But I have to warn you, there is no replay value if that's what you’re looking for. Play it and beat it. No coming back to it.
