Naval Ops: Commander - Used
A nice stage based game for the casual gamers
This game is great for those how simply like upgrade games and strategy. The vast variety of weaponry and ship blueprints allow you to customized your ship to your liking, but thats just it its only "your" ship that can be upgraded and improved. Now your escorts do get a little better, but not by much. I ended up leaving mine in the corner and went to do my busy else where. Now for game play its pretty well formatted to keep you entertained(for awhile) the occasional bosses is what makes it more interesting and worthwhile. Overall its a good game to play when you wanna waste time, it gives you nice stage system to beat as if it were like an arcade game just more advanced.
Good Rent, Bad Buy
The game's camera system is what first threw me off right from the bat. Then again, I did play Warship Gunner 2 before this, and didn't expect it. The game in itself is kinda fun, following closely along a line between the first, and Warship Gunner 2, while varied independently in the terms of story. Fictional plot, good assortment of supporting crew members, average graphics for the PS2, and the sound is pretty good. Your supporting ships aren't worth their weight you have to use to bring them in. Sure the formations you can put up can help, but since you can not shape them up to increase their endurance, they quickly become cannon fodder, and end up trying to figure out the combination to Davy Jones' locker. The extra missions however, are a blast. Your supporting crew will make you laugh until you cry, then you gotta pause the mission to clear your eyes, and get serious again....until a cut-scene where they get briefly comical again due to the breifness of the cut-scene. It's a good rent, but a bad buy. You can still buy it and enjoy it, but it'll gather dust as you play other games, until your interest is perked again towards it.
