Rated 10 out of 10 by gamer93 awesome game
this game is the best.I've had this game almost since it first came out.the gameplay is so smooth.I've never seen anything like this on ps2.the graphics could be better, but they are awesome for ps2.franchise mode down right awesome.I love being able to control the team from the front office and bein able to make the big decisions that will either make or break your team.the season is cool too,but it is not as fun as franchise mode.now for my review of what I believe is what sells this game.Road To The Show.RTTS is fun and challenging, but it takes so cotton-picking long in order to called to SHOW.what I think is the most stupid thing about not getting called when you deserve it is that you can reach your goals completely for God knows how long and still not get called up.other thing that is crazy about the game is that you can be awesome in spring training and still end up in AA either playing full-time or on the bench.all in all MLB 09 THE SHOW is the BOMB.thanks for reading :)
Rated 10 out of 10 by Ultimate Phillies Fan A Baseball Fan's Game
MLB 2009 The Show is a game any baseball fan can enjoy. For starters the game is easy to play yet challenging at the same time, which keeps you playing for hours. The graphics are phenonmanal considering that it is a PS2 game. As for the controls, batting is pretty basic, x is hit, and square is power, I like it though because it isn't as complicated as 2K9's hit stick control. The pitching is easy, but hard to master adding more to do in the Show. Fielding is simple, but once in awhile and easy ground ball will get by you, and it always seems to happen in a crucial moment of the game, but it isn't that big of a deal. As always the Road to The Show is outstanding and a great game mode to play in. The presentation is good and seeing the new stadiums in the game is pretty cool. The thing that sold me on this game though was hearing the Phillies being called the defending world champions, but that is mostly because I'm from Philly and have been waiting a while to hear that.

year after year it amazes me how THE SHOW gets better and better, for it to be a ps2 game it has great graphics and game play, it is so similar to real life baseball, the players, batter walk ups, batting stances, and homerun trots... nothing gets you closer. what i really noticed and loved about the game was the new and up graded 09 ROAD TO THE SHOW, it no longer takes forever to progress through the season with your RTTP, the loading is much quicker, and my favorite.. you get to EDIT your RTTP during the season, no more getting bored of using the same bat or stance they allow you to switch it up anytime you want, and you don't need to play defense every single time. they give you the option to defend all, sometimes or none, so that means more batting less waiting and more fun. Also base running with you RTTP has never been so exciting, you have total control of getting great jumps off the pitcher and the base running controls are new and fun to learn.I hope they continue to make more games for PS2 and PS3.
Rated 9 out of 10 by fish bowl Got To get "The Show"
The Show has come back with a new variety of choices. If you like 08 you might find 09 a little different but a lot of the same. The graphics are good. You get the grass pretty good. The texture in the walls. Realistic surroundings make you feel like your in the game. Like the game says "Nothing Gets You Closer". i like the new manage your roster with the 40-man roster control. The rosters are definitely updated. The commentary is pretty much the same with matt Vasgerson and the other two guys. They say pretty much the same thing as last years edition. The schedule is very accurate except when I play with the Cubs they play about 73% night games and nearly any day games. The controls are a lot of the same from last year. If you like to work a little to get your roster right it will pay off. The batting stances, pitching mechanics and deliveries are very accurate. The ratings for the players are good and if you don't like them you can edit your entire roster.
Rated 8 out of 10 by AnonymouslyConfused A worthy addition
The PS2 is an aging console and with that people need to keep in mind developers are not going to add a lot of additons to a console that has had the lifespan of the PS2. I have not bought a Show game since 06 came out. I do not purchase sports games on a yearly basis because it often proves to be a pointless endeavor as not much really changes in games released on a yearly basis. Now for the review. Lets start with graphics. Graphically the game looks good for a PS2 game and with being an old console this is probably as good as its going to get on the system. Sound department is pretty good a lot of the commentary is still there from the 06 game but thats ok. Presentation is where this game hits it spot on since its a realistic presentation from the replays such forth. Gameplay its just a blast to play 2 or 3 games in a row. As far as replay value goes it just depends on the person. Overall its a good game and is the top baseball game franchise on the market.

I made the mistake of buying this game back after I had sold it months before, and the only reason it gets such a good review from me is becuase of the sweet presentations and graphics. For one, pitching is a nightmare, the placement of the baseball using the analog stick is so sensitive its hard to put it where I want it sometimes. When the AI does get a hit or sends it to the outfield, I have to wait for the throwing meter to charge (happens in the infield too), by the time the players pump their gloves and plant their feet to throw, the opponent is already at the bag/plate, I just want to smash the cd!! And when I swing, sometimes the batter will check his swing when I dont want him too, hitting is hard as he** for a beginner to begin with!! The parks are gorgeous and the presentations almost life-like, but its evident to even to the most casual of gamers that EA is just spitting out the same baseball game year after year with a new title.

Honestly I find this game to be challening and it presents new obstacles due to the new features it has. In the previous editions such as 06 - 08 when you guessed a pitch it would actually show you where the pitch was going to come, providing of course you guessed the right pitch type and location. In 09 it doesn't do that but I find it is more realistic that way and as I said before it results in more of a challenge for the gamer which is more fun and interesting. The commentators need to change it up a little, the comments are way to common for the 4th edition of MLB The Show. I know some people may disagree but I do feel they should have added some fighting element to the game which they sort of had in 06 - 08 if you intentially threw at a player they would show the charging of the mound and so forth, I just find that to be more realistic because it does happen in the real life baseball. Overall I think this is an excellent game.

I bought this game yesterday morning and played it most of the day yesterday. Road To The Show is awesome. The only complaint I have about Road To The Show is the base running controls. It got confusing. Franchise mode is awesome also. I am in the mode with the Giants and it is cool. I love how you can manage the company by buying things needed for the team like spa rooms, exercise rooms and so on. You can also choose who you want advertised on the scoreboard and where you want the team advertised at like in magazines and newspapers. You can even choose what type of transportation your team will be using. All can be done within the budget of the team. Graphics-wise it is great. The batter's stances and even the motion the fielders take to field the balls is fluid. I can't wait to try out the other modes since I have been stuck on playing the two modes above. I would highly recommend this game to any baseball fan.
Rated 10 out of 10 by pokey Great Game for any sports fan!
I had MLB 08 so I was very excited to get a hold of MLB 09 because it had some more features that the last game didn't. I am very impressed that the quality of the game did not diminish because of the added extras. It is very easy to learn how to play and the controls are fairly simple. In fact, if you've played 08, then you won't really have to change anything. The game does move a little slower than 08, but the extra features more than make up for it. I remember reading a review that someone thought it was only 1 player. That person obviously didn't check the game and relied on others' hearsay. This game is totally better than MLB 2K9. It's better in all aspects of the game. The only thing that bothers me is that they have been using the same dialogue for each of the games. I would like to hear something different every now and then.
Rated 10 out of 10 by Metsfan4191997 Simply the best
Mlb 09 the show is simply the best baseball game on the market until mlb 10 comes out. This is so much better than 2k baseball games which i am not a fan of. For ps2 the graphics are good. I noticed that they made faces different in this one. The stats are good but they hardly show stolen bases, slugging pct, and fielding stats. But that is the only complaint I have. I flat out dominate at this game and the ps3 version has trophies. My fav part is the authenticity of baseball in a vid game. Sony has done an excellent job with their baseball games. I have played the mlb series since mlb 06 and it has definantly come a long long long way. The rosters in the game are good but there are a few players like manny ramierez named as free agents but i can live with it. I would highly recommend this game to anyone baseball fan or not.
