Midway Arcade Treasures 3
Flawed ports, "Rush" series is a good port though
Seems that this compilation was cobbled together without much knowledge of the PS2 technical capabilities. The classic "Race Drivin" is plagued by horrible frame rate slowdowns and unresponsive controls that make it almost unplayable. The "Hard drivin" version on the Sega Genesis is far more controllable, and consensus has it that that was the worst port of the "Hard Drivn/ Race Drivin" games ever! The version that was ported to the Gamecube fares much better. On the Other side of the coin, " STUN runner" is sabotaged by a total lack of frame rate control, the jerky playback and fast, uncontrollable, frame rates, make it almost unplayable. "Bad Lands" and "Super Off-road" are solid ports, but the control interface was not implemented well enough, the originals featured a non-directional steering control, it was not emulated well on this port. Not all is negative on this compilation, the versions of "San Francisco Rush/2049" are excellent. These ports are not the arcade originals , but ports from the Dreamcast versions, a testament of the excellent programming that went into that ill-fated console. The frame rates are smooth and the graphics are very good for the capabilities of the PS2. Eventhough "Stun Runner" and "Race drivin" will be dissapointments, the low price of this collection and the excellent ports of the "San Francisco Rush" make for some inexpensive racing entertainment.
Good game, fun, will last you a lifetime.
This game is a great game that showcases classic gaming and favorite arcade games into one package. I would highly suggest this to those gamers who love bringing back the old time games and who enjoy family time as much as I do. This is a great family game and may be enjoyed by anybody at any age. =)
