Rated 10 out of 10 by nemesisfan great game in the series
like mgs 1 and 2 you can expect this to have a great stoyline. i got this with the essentials pack. i haven't played mgs 4 but from what i heard the original mgs 3 has a stationary camera. in subsistence you can rotate the camera using the right analog stick. i find the controls good. the graphics are great.storyline is outstanding. its like a movie with the cutscenes. this game is morelike a prequel to the shadow moses inciddent and mgs 2 big shell inciddent. so it explains that naked snake becomes big boss. ocleot is in his rookie stage in mgs 3. this game won't disappoint the mgs fans. there was a lot of things to spectulate who big boss was. but this game explains who he is and what he did. like mgs 1 and 2 theres a conspiracy that takes place like naked snake not being told the full story and doesn't learn the whole truth until the end of the game. i recommend this for anybody who loves the mgs series. maybe i went over board with all 10s but i really enjoy this game.
Rated 9 out of 10 by nemesisfan the best in the series.
this game is great. you in the jungle as naked snake. you'll have to do more then just sneaking around. you'll need to eat food. eating food isn't all that bad as it sounds. you'll get use to it quite fast. story is great. this is more of a prequel then a sequel since it takes place during the cold war era. it has twists in the story like the other metal gear solid games do. in this game you can control the camera angle with the right analog stick making it easier to spot enemies. sound is great you can hear enemies walk in the grass. length is perfect. it has long cut-scenes but it also has equal amount of gameplay as well. graphics are great on the ps2 when i 1st played this game i thought it was going to look like mgs 2 but was wrong. the camera angle is behind snake making it much easier to see things. there's no radar like in mgs 1 and 2 so relying on stealth plays in a bigger role in this game. you can like the other mgs games it has an excellent story to it. its well worth getting it.
Rated 10 out of 10 by Big Boss. MGS3 ROCKS!
The game that started it all is out again with NEW goodies to make gameplay 10 times more fun. MGS3 Subsistence features Metal Gear Online, which I did enjoy until it was shut down in April 2007. But the game is still good to buy because of the other goodies. This game includes the original Snake Eater storyline with a new 3rd-person camera. On disc 2 you will find: *Duel Mode-Where you can fight all the bosses of the game on either easy, normal, or hard difficulties. *Demo Theater-Where you can watch all cutscenes of the game *Secret Theater-Watch hilarious cutscenes which parody the actual game cutscenes. *Metal Gear-Play the original MSX version of the game that started it all. *Metal Gear 2:Solid Snake-Play the original MSX version of the sequel of the game that started it all. *Metal Gear Online-Play MGO on a private server if you can because Konami's server was shut down in April 2007. You may be able to play MGO, but only with yourself.
Rated 10 out of 10 by blackfang21 My Favorite Game Ever!
I love everything about this game. The graphics are top notch for a ps2 game from 2004. The voice acting is superb, and fits the mood of the game perfectly. The story line is very intriguing, and complex. Also, there IS online play, but REMEMBER! it reqires an ethernet cable. I also love the cinematic effects. It makes the game so epic, and you really get into it. One thing that kind of makes me angry though, is that there is really no CQC for taking out an enemy. It stuns them, but doesn't kill them. But, you get a lot of weapons, sooo. I HIGHYLY reccomned you get this version, it comes with metal gear one and 2 (not metal gear SOLID, metal gear from the psx) and something with monkeys from ape escape (?). But this is my absolute favorite game, and i HIGHLY reccomend you pick it up. Also, if you have a PS3 or Xbox 360, get the HD collection. it comes with this, plus two other great games.
Rated 10 out of 10 by stan says buy this the last great metal gear
I'm not saying don't play MGS4 but it can't hold a candle to MGS3 it just has more character. I say the time talking to MR. sigint [ signal intelligence ] or paramedic is a lot more fun than the people in MGS4 from paramedic's japanese culture talks to SIGINT's equipment history lessons can give you more of an understanding of the gear and ZERO's normal history lesson gives you a good understanding of the time. plus subsistance has some funny clips. I've played thourgh MGS3 countless times but MGS4 only once or twice that shows the contrast of love for these games I'm playing on buying MGS3 because up until now i've rented all my games but with the CHEAP price at gamestop i'm going back and buying all the games of my youth so i don't have to try and find copy on ebay marked up because there rare or something. i recommend this game for any sadists who love to snipe the limbs of a guard and wait til he calms and then do it again, or any stealth gamer splinter cell is more novelly while MGS3 is more james bond + chuck norris= MGS3. plus the theme is the best theme outside halo and final fantasy
Rated 9 out of 10 by 360playah best in the series
To my opinion metal gear solid 3 was the best in the series. Much to my expectatitions the game kept its great stealth system but added in a much needed fighting style. the third person view helped with much of the game. mostly with the boss fights. Able to play metal gear 1 and 2 were probably the best extra content included in this game. knowing what happened woth snake before shadow moses helped to understand the later plot. With snake eater the story doesnt just give you a mission with big boss. it gives you the patriots backstory. the lenght of this game was acceptable consdiring what kind of game it was but it couldve added a few more fights with ocelot. when playing this game the difficulty was spiked up from the last two. normal in this game seems like extreme in sons of liberty. all in all this game was a blast to play.
Rated 10 out of 10 by xGrizzlyx The best
This is by far the best of the Metal Gears, what an exp. The only complaints about this is the camera and controls. I wish they would remake this not only in HD but with MG4 graphics and controls( that goes for all the MG games revisiting areas in MG4 and MGO are awesome that are from the MG1 and MG3).
If you are to get any version of this game this would be the one because it has the original Metal gear games. I wish I had this copy. I bought my PS3 with MG4 bundled and bought the essestial package that had MG1 -3 in it and 3 didn't have the second disk that would have the original Metal gear, which I played back in the day. :)
So what are you waiting for :) if you're ps3 is not compatible to play ps1 and 2 games then get the Metal Gear HD for ps3. the whole story is worth it.
Rated 10 out of 10 by ZeroGamer Best Metal Gear Solid...on older gen systems.
This game has so many amazing components which make it a solid experience. Okay, first off, way better than snake eater, the 3D camera is the best thing to happen to the metal gear series. Using the new 3D camera you sneak past enemies with your many camouflage costumes, which is the biggest part of the game. You sneak behind an enemy and grab them, throw them, cut their throat, interrogate them...or just pass them out. The story is epic, the environments are very detailed, and sneaking is very reliant upon your choice of dealing with things. The 2 disc version comes with metal gear 1& 2 which are so old, but their still good enough, there is also the ever so entertaining snake vs. money...don't miss it. Last, the secret theater is hilarious.
Rated 10 out of 10 by Haydeo A more game-play focused approach
MGS3 takes a much bigger focus on game-play then it's prequels did. Or should I say sequels? You see, Metal Gear Solid 3, despite it's name, is actually where all of Metal Gear began, in terms of story. Even before the MSX2 games. Story-wise it certainly delivers on par with MGS1 and MGS2. But like I said, this game takes a much more focused approach for game-play. Now you have a much more sophisticated, well thought out, MUCH more in-depth and longer play time than ever before. There is so much stuff you can do in this game it's insane! Seriously, just look up some of the tricks, easter eggs, weapon uses, CGC moves, item lists and that will only be scratching the surface. This make re-playability endless. This is all thanks to the new and improved stealth system and game mechanics. Stealth is no longer about hiding behind things and staying out of sight completely. Now you have to hide in plain sight while being well camouflaged and quite. You must adapt and overcome. I want to talk so much more about this gameplay, there's just nothing else like it. This is a really fun game, it's not my absolute favorite of the Metal Gear series, but I can see why many people thinks it's the best of the best. This is a rare breed of game that truly stands out from everything else.
Rated 9 out of 10 by tysonrss I would definatly get this if you're a MGS fan.
This game is great, the sound the graphics everything. It's much more better to play if you have surround sound, like I do. I just bought it and haven't beaten it yet. I'm just taking my time.
Be warned, if you go in and get this game Gamestop will rip you off if you get the "Essentials" disc. It is a black disc that says Metal Gear Solid 3. No snake eater or subsistance. Subsistance is 15 dollars for a reason, it comes with 2 discs. Make sure to confirm that and if they make a big deal out of it walk away. Luckily another gamestop was kind enough to give me the 2 discs in exchange for the "Essentials" one. The discs are green, remember that!
Now go buy the game!!
