Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence
Greatest game on Earth
I have played this game 19 times and it is still exciting every time I play the best part by far is the thermal goggles they have added to mgs
One word.......... Perfection
Subsistance is an excellent re-release and probably hands down the best ps2 game ever made and theres a few reasons why. In the original MGS3 you were tasked to beat the game with a restrictive camera system which at some points felt like it made the enemies almost invisible, which a majority of the time led to you getting spotted. In this version you are given a full 360 degree rotatable 3D camera with the ability to switch back to fixed camera angle on the fly if you wish. Because of this new camera system the gameplay feels more natural and much less frustrating. Another way to put it is beacause of this simple but drastic change Subsistance literally feels like a whole new game compared to the original MGS3. But wait theres more. Theres also a demo theater which allows you to watch any cutscene from the campaign in any order you wish. On the second disk theres a mode where you can play any boss battle you want out of order including the ocelot unit battle and all weapons are at your disposal. Secret theater is another feature that contains funny cutscenes that are fun to watch. Also the second disk includes the first two original 8-bit metal gear games that were only released in Japan. Theres also an online multiplayer mode but sadly the servers have been shut down so if your thinking about getting Subsistance for the Multiplayer your wasting your cash. However even without the online your still left with a great package. Even if you own the original MGS3 I still recommend you purchase this version due to the 3D camera and the plenty of other extras that are packed on to the second disk. Basically what it comes down to is you must buy Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistance, yes its that good.
A more game-play focused approach
MGS3 takes a much bigger focus on game-play then it's prequels did. Or should I say sequels? You see, Metal Gear Solid 3, despite it's name, is actually where all of Metal Gear began, in terms of story. Even before the MSX2 games. Story-wise it certainly delivers on par with MGS1 and MGS2. But like I said, this game takes a much more focused approach for game-play. Now you have a much more sophisticated, well thought out, MUCH more in-depth and longer play time than ever before. There is so much stuff you can do in this game it's insane! Seriously, just look up some of the tricks, easter eggs, weapon uses, CGC moves, item lists and that will only be scratching the surface. This make re-playability endless. This is all thanks to the new and improved stealth system and game mechanics. Stealth is no longer about hiding behind things and staying out of sight completely. Now you have to hide in plain sight while being well camouflaged and quite. You must adapt and overcome. I want to talk so much more about this gameplay, there's just nothing else like it. This is a really fun game, it's not my absolute favorite of the Metal Gear series, but I can see why many people thinks it's the best of the best. This is a rare breed of game that truly stands out from everything else.
The best ps2 game ever made
hands down, the best ps2 game ever made. For me it is the best game ever for any system........dont hesitate to buy this game today!
My Favorite Game Ever!
I love everything about this game. The graphics are top notch for a ps2 game from 2004. The voice acting is superb, and fits the mood of the game perfectly. The story line is very intriguing, and complex. Also, there IS online play, but REMEMBER! it reqires an ethernet cable. I also love the cinematic effects. It makes the game so epic, and you really get into it. One thing that kind of makes me angry though, is that there is really no CQC for taking out an enemy. It stuns them, but doesn't kill them. But, you get a lot of weapons, sooo. I HIGHYLY reccomned you get this version, it comes with metal gear one and 2 (not metal gear SOLID, metal gear from the psx) and something with monkeys from ape escape (?). But this is my absolute favorite game, and i HIGHLY reccomend you pick it up. Also, if you have a PS3 or Xbox 360, get the HD collection. it comes with this, plus two other great games.
This is by far the best of the Metal Gears, what an exp. The only complaints about this is the camera and controls. I wish they would remake this not only in HD but with MG4 graphics and controls( that goes for all the MG games revisiting areas in MG4 and MGO are awesome that are from the MG1 and MG3).
If you are to get any version of this game this would be the one because it has the original Metal gear games. I wish I had this copy. I bought my PS3 with MG4 bundled and bought the essestial package that had MG1 -3 in it and 3 didn't have the second disk that would have the original Metal gear, which I played back in the day. :)
So what are you waiting for :) if you're ps3 is not compatible to play ps1 and 2 games then get the Metal Gear HD for ps3. the whole story is worth it.
best game on ps2 ever
well i used have a copy of this version of MGS3 and so far ive been happy with the whole game the only thing i didnt like is that the online multiplayer had been shut down (well i heard it stopped anyway) but other than that everything else in the game was great ive passed the before 4 times before my ps2 broke(got like 2 ps2s after that, 1 broke the other still works)i also loved how you had to look for new weapons some were very hard to get or keep after completing the game yet it was still good to play
I would definatly get this if you're a MGS fan.
This game is great, the sound the graphics everything. It's much more better to play if you have surround sound, like I do. I just bought it and haven't beaten it yet. I'm just taking my time.
Be warned, if you go in and get this game Gamestop will rip you off if you get the "Essentials" disc. It is a black disc that says Metal Gear Solid 3. No snake eater or subsistance. Subsistance is 15 dollars for a reason, it comes with 2 discs. Make sure to confirm that and if they make a big deal out of it walk away. Luckily another gamestop was kind enough to give me the 2 discs in exchange for the "Essentials" one. The discs are green, remember that!
Now go buy the game!!
This game is the first game that includes Naked Snake/Big Boss. Metal Gear Solid 3:Snake Eater comes back with Subsistence. Subsistence is Snake Eater with extra levels of Snake vs Monkey, Boss Duel which is when you fight The pain, fear, end, sorrow, fury and joy(The Boss), and has online content(doesn't work anymore). It also has camoflauge downlaod.
Better in every way than the original. Great game.
The first time I played through MGS3, I loved it. But the two things that bothered me most were the camera and the lip syncing. The lip syncing I can understand, it's a Japanese game. But not being able to see where I wanted to got me into alert phase a few times. In Subsistence, the camera is great. You can switch between the original camera and a new 3rd person camera with a click of R3. The voice acting is great, but it's strange how two certain Russian scientists are the only Russians out of many in the game who speak with a Russian accent. The graphics are incredible, the best on PS2. Thre are some cool fire and weather effects. Auto regenerating health is cool, but it is sometimes annoying having to medically treat Snake whenever you are injured. The camo system looks great, and once I couldn't even see Snake when I had the camera aimed right at him. The story in the game doesn;t continue MGS2's story but rather takes place in the 1960's in a Cold War setting. The story is better in this game than MGS2. Subsistence adds a theater mode that lets you watch whatever cutscene you want, which is fun. MAKE SURE YOU GET BOTH DISCS! The second disc has Snake vs monkey, secret theater, boss battles, and best of all, Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. These are the original versions released in Japan, and Metal Gear 2 never even saw an American release. These games have a save feature and are both translated to English. Metal Gear Online was originally on Disc 2, but is no longer supported. I highly recommend this game.
