I absolutely love this game! It has cute graphics, and the gameplay is interesting :)
Rated 8 out of 10 by lobothesacred3 Overlooked, but a classic like Disgaea
Note: I haven't completed this game yet. In fact, I've only completed up to chapter 6 or so. So, my review of this game is only based on the first couple of chapters.
Story: You follow Prier a young exorcist that is part of the Church of the Holy Maiden and dreams of becoming the next Maiden of Light. Though, Prier's dreams seem far off since she is loud and brash. In fact, she will sometimes hurt those close to her in a misguided attempt to protect them. Prier also is quick to express her opinions about individuals even if those opinions are insulting.
The game largely follows a format of offering you an objective for a chapter. Like explore this dungeon or defeat this monster. And, you can get good and bad chapter endings based on what you do. So, it may be advisable to read a walk through if you are obsessive about getting the best ending or saving before exploring the next map. Since, to get the best ending you usually need to explore all of the areas in a dungeon.
Gameplay: The game makes use of a turn-based grid-based battle system similar to Disgaea Hour of Darkness in many respects. The game does offer a few new features though like the ability to purify monsters and then defeat them in battle to recruit them. You can also purify dark portals to create miracle chains that can damage enemies or heal your characters based on the color of the chain. The game also features a stat level up system that makes monsters far more useful then your playable characters in some respects as well.
Graphics: This game makes use of 2D Sprite imaging which is rather standard for NIS America. The sprites are enjoyable to look at, but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that some changes were made to the appearances of the characters. The crosses on Prier's outfit were removed and certain other changes were made as well in order to avoid potential lawsuits.
Sound: The soundtrack is solid. Though, it doesn't offer any tunes that I couldn't live without.
Lasting Appeal: The game does offer multiple endings and a lot of areas to explore like the dark world.
