Rated 10 out of 10 by Capt. 2nd Tex. Inf. A unique time period for a first person shooter
Being a War Between the states re-enactor for over a decade I had to buy this game when it came out. I applaud everyone who worked on this game. To make a first person shooter out of a era when you got off only 3 to 4 shots a minute had to be difficult. However the creators managed to stike a exellent balance between authenticity and entertainment. Because of the reloading time you must take time to pick your every shot. This is a aspect that I enjoy over the usual "spray and pray" games of this type, and also gives the player a small hint of why armies fought the way they did during this era. The story line take you thru twelve of the major battles of Civil War. You fight at Gettysburg, Chancellorsville, Antietam, Bull Run just to name a few. But not as the same character This is not a hard or complex game, but enjoyable none the less. Those who have a interest in the era will probably enjoy this game more than those who are just wanting a shooter.
Rated 9 out of 10 by Soldier Boy This game is GREAT!!!!!!!
Man what an awesome game, I think its one of the best ever! The loading is authentic, (but sped up), and the guns are authentic, even the uniforms are authentic! You even get to use Bayonets in this game! Though I prefer the Southern campaign, the North did have better weapons, (just like in the real war), in fact they even had a sniper rifle. Not only was this game fun, but it is also slightly educational, (during loading screens primarily, don't skip those). This game is definitely worth a buy, it is one of the best games ever! So if you like SOCOM, MoH, CoD, and other great games like that you should love this game!. I sure do! It has everything, stealth missions, frontal assault, ambush, and in the Northern campaign a "protect the castle" mission. So I highly recommend this game to all people who like shooters. The only thing that would make it better is if it had an alternate ending.
Rated 10 out of 10 by Chrimardix Realy good game, but where's the Multiplayer?
First of all, you'd think that a Civil War game would have the whole multiplayer "Union vs. Confederacy" thing right? well it doesn't. That's about the only thing i think is wrong. The gameplay is really fun, because you get really good instructions on what to do. It's really frustrating, though, when you have to run at a Gatling gun, and you keep getting shot, so your guy stops in pain, and before you can go again, you get shot. This happens repeatedly till you die. If you play it a few times though, you'll get it. The sounds are REALLY good, battle cries, Gatling gun firing, rifle firing, cannon fire, yelling, all sorted out perfectly. The graphics are good, because you see the smoke from guns, and you can tell the diff between allies and enemies (you can still waste your bullets on allies, they won't get hurt by you) Lasting appeal is really good also because you can go back and replay the levels you've beaten and play them, but you have to actually beat the levels to play them. That's about all i can think of, so if you still have the dinosaur PS2 like me, (or PS3) GET-THIS-GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rated 1 out of 10 by John hammond Bad game
I really hated this game. As soon as I started the first mission as a gray coat, i knew I would not like this game. The graphics were TERRIBLE. Almost unplayable. Then I started and of course, I didn't like it. Reloading took forever, now, I know that civil war guns didn't have clips or anything, but they over-exaggerate the reloading. So you just got to stay there for about 6-8 seconds while your character reloads. Definitely not worth a dollar price tag. I would post 5 . And then I still wouldn't buy it. And plus, THE ENEMIES DON'T DIE! I fired 18 shots into a guy before he died! Minor frame rate problems. As soon as I was halfway through bull-run, I boxed it back up, Put the receipt in the bag, and took it back to the store. If you want a GREAT civil war game, get civil war: secret missions. One of the best games I have ever played. I do not reccomend this game.
Rated 8 out of 10 by linkmaster14 cool game!
Man I just beat the game. It was a challenge for me. When I was the South it was hard for me. I bought it because the cover look like it was an exciting game. It was big time. Well, give you some of the cool facts. Its about the ten best battles from the North to the South. You fight at Bull run and Selma and other amazing places. The guns are like from the civil war. The sniper rifle is a musket with the telescope on it. The canons and galling guns that are amazing did I mention the gun powder that blows up. You can use these product like the canon and the galling guns. And those wagons, other stuff that you can hide behind like the buildings to. If you like a challenge well this is the game for you. The sword that the North use. The revolvers the South use.

This is one great game to buy! I loved playing this game. I played it for 2 hours straight! The graphics aren't the best but it makes up for it with its storyline! If you like shooters, you should get this game. It was fun for me, and I think it would be fun for you! The sound of the cannons firing and explosives exploding sounds GREAT! Its AI's are kind of good, but they can challenge you! Everything in this game is realistic, from gatling guns to muskets, to snipers and Henry Rifles. You can learn about the civil war and have fun doing it. It teaches you about everything from the battle plans to the real locations. Another great thing is that you can pick from the North or the South, AKA the yankees and the rebels. I recommend this game to everyone!
Rated 6 out of 10 by thebj13 Not The Best...
This being a shooter set in the Civil War, is a big deal. But the graphics are just a tad lacking for PS2, when being compared to Call of Duty 2 and 3. The sound in the game is good, including the yelling on the battlefield and the fire of a gun. As a shooter it's not the best game, being a bit dry in gameplay, all of this combined makes a mediocre experiance. I liked the game, until I beat it. I wouldn't go back to play through it again, but I recomend this game because, theres not another game set in Civil War that I know of besides the sequel. It's a great way to learn about the conflict, which is only reason I gave it a 6.

Civil war a nation divided is 1 of my favorite shooters on the ps2. Riviarling the 2 call of dutys, 4 medal of honors and 2 star wars battlefronts. It is set in one of the weirdest eras of a fps the american civil war. Normally they are world war 2 and more recently modern era. But as a fan of history a civil war fps i always wanted and still looking for a world war 1 fps. The gameplay was good with massive difference between levels and weapons. The amount of levels is not much but still a good game (I recommended this over Civil War:Secret Missions).

This is like any other ordinary game. The graphics are ps2 graphics, so there's not much to expect there. The gameplay is like most games, easy at first, but hard at the end. If you're a hardcore gamer go ahead. I couldn't beat the campaign, but maybe you can. Just remember one thing: KEEP YOUR FELLOW SOLDIERS ALIVE!
Rated 9 out of 10 by Adventuregamer The best Civil War game for a PS2.
This game is great and at a good price. It some levels are short and others like Selma are a little long. It only also says 2 curse words that you would know are curse words and 1 other word that you don't even realize. Over all this is a good game.
