Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus
Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus
It is not a RPG like the other Final Fantasy, instead your Vincent Valentine, a real great shooter in my oppinion. Levels are fun. When i first picked up that controller and put it in my hand it was real hard to let go of. Good layout of the game. You get melee attacks, and use a limit break technique I would recommend this to many gamers out there. It was a blast. This will be a game i will continue to play over again. I like to bounce back and forth between games beat one go to another. Its fast paced. I am really glad i purchased it.
Not as good as I was hoping.
The game is ok. It really fails to reach anything spectacular. The only thing thats really good about the game is the storyline which is something Square Enix knows a lot about. Another part that is good is the weapon customization element and it is pretty cool addition to the game and I wished more 3rd person action games had this feature. The game is at decent length and I think most people would find it adequate. Controls are responsive enough and are easy enough to pick up and play. The interface is a little bland and menu driven. Sound is standard. Graphics are good but the level design is linear and generic looking. The challenge is good enough but sometimes I felt like I was at a shooting gallery instead of taking on some baddies. The game is far from being bad. It just has a been there done that feel you can see in other games. Basically get this game for the story because thats what this game excels at.
I think that this game is by far one of the best games out for the PS2... I was so excited to pick up my copy a while back when the game first came out. I am a true Vincent Valentine fan. Pros: - Controls are great, but the turning speed could be a little better. - Gameplay is really good. - Graphics are superb! - Loading time is great, as well. - Customization of weapons and equipment feature is definitely the best feature in this game.- Collecting the hidden icons... Those are fun to look for. - Cinematic sequences were superb, as always by Square Enix. Cons: - AI can be too aggressive at times.. especially when entering that huge building with the big walkway out front... I have died multiple times on Extra Hard mode and it frustrated me so. This game truly had only one con.
Very different then other final fantasys
I first saw this game and thought wow this looks very interesting. Then i went and youtubed it and I'm like NO WAY ITS A SHOOTER??? Yes it is in fact shooter and thats the only reason i really bought it. I mean i love the final fantasy stories but i just hate the whole taking turns in the game. Its just really boring to do and thats why i never bought them. Anyways so ya, great bosses, great story, once again ITS A SHOOTER!!
PS2 Bliss in a bomshell.
Many people who take gaming to extreme, They think just because it is a Final Fantasy game it should be the top of the line in everything, the truth is this game is one of the best games that I have seen so far on the playstation 2 graphic and storyline wise since Tales of the Abyss. The graphics fit the system and are appealing to everyone, People think the game should of have the other characters from FFVII have larger parts, The game is about Vincent, Yuffie is working closely with Reeve so she is tied in more then the others, Cait Sith is Reeve so he is also more common then the others, People just need to realize that this game isn't Final Fantasy VII and know that it won't be a revolutionary game. The only draw back I have is that they could of had some music from FFVII but remixed so it fit DoC's gameplay.
A different Final Fantasy
When i first started to play the game i realized that this was a different Final Fantasy. Instead of the Swords and stuff that you would find in a regular final fantasy it is a 3rd person shooter. You use a pistol to shoot and kill your enemies but beside from the fact that the game has Final Fantasy in the name. I would not put as a great game for the series. I enjoyed the game and have played through it multiple times but it does not strike you as a final fantasy game. If you sat someone down who had played every ff except this one he/she would call it a 3rd person shooter not a final fantasy. I found the game to be really fun even though it is a different game for the series if has a fun more fast paced way to play. I am replaying it as i wait for ff 14 but this game is more like a shooter than a final fantasy
The Dirge of the PS2!
When I first played Dirge of Cerberus I could somewhat see why it was disliked...long cutscenes, slightly difficult controls, the like. But when I stuck to it and played it for all it was worth, I found it to be a very enjoyable game! Every part of it was stunning from the gorgeous 3D cut-scenes that make Square Enix so popular, to the storyline that made me laugh, gasp, and even shed a tear! The game itself is surprisingly well made and for their first action title, Square Enix hit a surefire home run! Vincent Valentine has shed his FFVII polygon skin for a look that makes most fangirls have an instant smile. Those ruby eyes! That face! That rich, dark hair! Be still my heart. I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the game. The different guns gave your game-play a twist and you could modify them to suit your preferred style. If you want light go with Cerberus. If you want a full on rampage, wait until you get the Death Penalty and go wild. What made me really go for this game was the fact that Vincent can transform! He can turn into two amazing looking beasts. The Galian Beast which resembles the Werewolf of horror movie fame, or Chaos, a deliciously devilish demon that packs a BIG gun. If you are a fan of Final Fantasy like I am then I encourage you to go and buy a copy of this game ASAP. Dirge of Cerberus is certainly a game worth playing. Even if the whole thing isn't so long, there are plenty of rewards at the end. Get through the entire story and you unlock an Extra Hard mode. This mode in the American version has more missions that were originally designed for a multi-player mode in Japan. Also you unlock bonus artwork and much more! All in all, Square Enix has given us another masterpiece in their collection and I hope there is more to come!
This game rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think this game is mutch better then any other FF games. Mainly because of battleing you don't just select the attack and they fight you actually have to run around and aim for things. the only part I think wasn't that good was when you had to be cait syth and roll the barrels at the DG guards. Well any way there are no cheat codes thats what I like so you can't just skip to each level. If you like custom weapons this is your game you can select a lot of parts to go in diferent places of the gun like the barrel you get sort barrel long barrel and well I don't know how many weapons. But you get three main ones the Hydra the Griffon and the Ceberus. To explain it more the Hydra is a rifle the Griffon is something like a tommy gun and the Ceberus is the basic handgun Vincent uses (untill you customize them) you can choose from a variety of material to use. So I would suggest buying this game.
It's not the best, but it's not bad either!
DoC was my first shooter game, and I've played many more since then. I can honestly say that it was a very satisfying game overall, although the game was overly difficult in parts and too simple in others. The plot was confusing, and that's what many people wanted the game for, was a plot involving Vincent Valentine. They got a plot, alright, but it was one that was unnaturally befuddling. Playing as Mr. Valentine was amazingly fun. Being able to use either melee or guns was very fun indeed. Even though many players say this is the weakest game of the Final Fantasy series, I tend to disagree. It has it's strengths and weaknesses and it is a replayable game, if you like this sort of game. Overall, I would recommend it to FF fans and Vincent fans, as well as anyone who likes shooters mixed with fantasy, but otherwise, most people wouldn't have much interest in the game.
Overall Rating : 92 out of 100
I've never played Final Fantasy VII, yet I really enjoyed the game. The graphics were spectacular, especially in the cut-scenes. Sound and voice acting were outstanding. Gameplay was fun and although it was repetitive, it never really got old. Let's face it, shooting monsters is just fun. I enjoyed the customization of the guns, it gave something different to a most shooters and kept the RPG kind of experience. Controls were a little confusing at first, but as with all shooters, once you get the hang of it, you'll be fine. One problem, the only problem I have, is the length of the game. I enjoy games that could take 40 or more hours to complete and this doesn't quite reach that. Of course, it was the third sequel and there has already been a fourth (and will probably be more) so they couldn't put a lot into the game due to storyline purposes. Overall, the game is excellent. If you've never played Final Fantasy VII, like me, then the storyline won't make much sense early on, but as play you'll understand what's going on. I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys Shooters, RPG's and especially the Final Fantasy franchise.
