DAH 2 Developer Questions: Answered by Derek Proud, Producer

1.How is DAH2 going to be different than the original DAH?

Set in the swinging 60s, DAH2 busts out of America and sends Crypto on a world-traveling jaunt to Albion in the UK, Takoshima in Japan and Tunguska in Russia on a deadly mission of international espionage. Several humans including the seductive ex-KGB agent Natalya, the Mysterious Dr. Go, and the enigmatic Ponsonby from M15 help crypto along the way. Crypto has a range of new weapons and upgrades, including the underground terror of the Burrow Beast and the utter devastation of the Meteor Strike. Adding in a 2 player mode was also very high on our list, so you can play the entire game split screen multiplayer. The game is also probably about 50% bigger than the first game, with lots more core and side missions.

2. What are some of the things that inspired you in designing DAH2? Was "Mars Attacks" or Tim Burton an influence at all?

For the first game was primarily based on the sci-fi movies of the 50s and 60s, but I guess most of our influences came from generic UFO folklore. Cattle mutilation, anal probing, alien autopsies, Roswell, alien abduction, men in black, aliens controlling people's minds, all these things made it into the game. For DAH2 we were particularly inspired by the social change of the 60s, and many of the movies of that era like spy and monster movies.

3. Are there going to be any new characters in DAH 2?

You bet. I mentioned some of the human characters above, but there are lots more instore! We have the introduction of a new Furon, and thanks to the complete and utter destruction of the Mothership by a Russian nuclear missile, Orthopox spends the entire game as a hologram. It doesn't stop him treating Crypto like a second class Furon though.

4. Who is Cryptospordium-137, really? What makes him tick?

Well, due to the Furon DNA collected in the first game, Crypto has a new clone number (138) anda new, erm, addition to his anatomy. Crypto has what no other Furon in about 3000 years has had, his genitalia. So given that it is the 60s, and there is a lot of free love going around, I think you can guess what is making Crypto 138 tick these days.

5. From the moment you decided to continue the franchise, was it always going to be the 60's? Did Disco ever come into the picture?

We've got lots of plans for the Destroy All Humans! franchise, but the 60s seemed like the natural progression. There is so much material to draw from in the decade including Hippies, Japanese monster movies, spy films and lots more. It's also the decade that the Russians were the enemy, and that man landed on the moon. All these things are great material for a game and we've made good use of them.

6. What sorts of stereotypes do you plan to take comedic aim at for this installment of the series?

Obviously the Hippie movement is pretty squarely in our sights. "Make War not Love" is our tagline. We also make fun of the Russian invasion hype that was pretty prevalent in the 60s, and all the movies I've mentioned above. Ninjas and Godzilla get a good ribbing in Japan, and the Mods and Upper Class snobs get it in England. There are lots more but that's a basic overview! The same guys that did the last game wrote the script, and all of it is really funny.

7. What is your favorite part about developing a game like DAH2?

I think brainstorming the weapons was lots of fun. For the first game we had pretty stock standard weapons, and this time we really went crazy. We still have all the weapons from the last game (who can forget the Anal Probe), but some of the extra ones are really cool. Poking fun at humanity and all it's little foibles has been lots of fun too, the writers have had a great time and it really shows.

8. How do you think the human race would react if aliens did show up one day?

There would have to be a cult. Someone would see a way to make money out of it,usually by exploiting ignorant people. We hope that by making a game like this, we are educating people everywhere that when the aliens come, you won't be able to ride the comet's tail to a magical utopia, or have all disease cured and your dead relatives brought back to life, or be able to travel to the stars in their rocket ships. They're just going to kill you
