It brings me back great memories to play this and makes me want to go and buy a PS2 all over again just to have this game! I play this nowadays on an emulator on PC but, Boy oh Boy, this game is a great forefather of modern fighting games, and the first one to introduce stamina building for special powers, bonus stages with challenging training tasks to achieve new abilities and attributes, the players' face and body gets bruised and bleeding when taking severe hits and so much more. This game was the precursor of king of fighters and with its intense fighting, intense gameplay speed and insane super special combo moves, and opponents that are merciless and hard to beat, it made Capcom's street fighter II a child's play compared to it. The second (AOF2) game was a great improvement on the first AOF but the third Installment (AOF3) was disappointing, bad gameplay and controls however, great looking graphics greanted it was for a 2d game. It would be so awesome to see an improved 3d version or remake of this game for this generation of systems, but seems SNK Playmore is stuck in milking as much cash as they can on the old fame of the franchise rather than improving on it like other game companies did with their games such as street fighter, mortal kombat, ninja gaiden and dead or alive did bringing it to 3d. Until then all thats left is to enjoy the first two, because honestly, if you enjoy 2d fighters and true hardcore button mashing fighting games, this one is for you, all olthers do not bother trying it will frustrate you because to play this you must have some familiarity with games such as street fighter II, King of Fighters or Fatal Fury. This game deserves to be placed in a hall of fame of legendary 2d fighting games, and every old school gamer can agree that SNK did produce some of the best 2d fighters of all times. I highly recommend this!
