call of duty - awesome single player, hate multiplayer (too fast, too many respawns, no real objectives), zombie mode is great fun though RTCW - awesome multiplayer (played many, many, many hours on multi), single player was very good to. the thing that made multi great was team efforts to complete objective, perfect gamespeed. this wolf - Awesome singleplayer. i have played crysis, farcry1+2, GRAW2, cod 1-5, and wolf is probably the best campaign i've played closely followed by cod4+codwaw. multiplayer is not good... at all. enemies and friends have markers above their names making them easily identifiable. characters run around at ridiculously fast speeds where single player is alot more realistic. i'm running a 26" monitor @ 1900x1200 and at that res guys heads are puny.. i play @ 1280 and still the characters are pretty small making it alot harder to aim accurately. but aiming kinda goes out the window when guys are running and jumping in circles. more of a crapshoot than skill. if you like cod multiplayer you will like the multi on this. pointless running around shooting and killing and respawning. if they turned gamespeed down and put maxlives then it may be decent. i'd buy again just for the singleplayer its just a shame that they didn't upgrade RTCW
Ever since I had seen the game in development, I have been excited for it. It is a series that started a lot for the FPS genre but after this outing I have only come to realize that even the best things don't last. The gameplay is solid, the controls are easy to pickup and go with veteran FPS fans. The in-game graphics are crisp and shiny, the interfaces lack any kind of in-depth helpful information of the surrounding areas. It is easy to get lost in this game fighting tons of randomly spawned nazi patrol units in between missions. At first I put that on the back burner but the more I progressed through the game, the more annoying it got and eventually leading to frustration. The challenge to this game is not surviving new different encouters but the same old drawn out enemies at a higher population, one word describes this experience ANNOYING! Some of the higher ranked enemies just come off feeling cheap. The new idea implemented into this game is the veil which you can use to find hidden paths, lower enemy shields, slow time and as a shield of protection for yourself. It is a new idea in an interesting direction but it was poorly executed. Each power has a use but it does you absolutly no good when fighting several enemies with different abilities in closed spaces. The story is broken into pieces involving areas of the town you explore and upon completion the main character will fill you in on the next destination. The single player campaign is fairly long if you take the time to find and complete everything. The multi-player is just an absolute mess, the environments lack any form of creativity and the classes are nearly pointless unless you're playing the objective maps. All-in-all wolfenstein has become your common pick-of -the-litter shooter that lacks variety and any kind of new ideas that stand to impress. It holds no ground on the modern shooters and with modern warfare 2 on its way, it would definitly pay to be patient. Final verdict, easily a rental but avoid dropping the cash on this one. I hope this was helpful.
Wolfenstein Compared to RTCW/ET
The single player in my opinion is fun and the storyline is good, very similar to RTCW. However where this new Wolfenstein fails is the multiplayer. There's lots of discussions on the wolf forums about keeping true to RTCW/ET and "progressing". Personally I thought that RTCW/ET was some of the best multiplayer ever. I loved the objective based combat with different classes on maps that progressed as one side completed an objective. This new wolfenstein feels way too much like Call of Duty. It's the same mindless combat wtih fast respawns, these fools even put arrows pointing to your friends and enemies while in combat. This game feels zero like RTCW/ET. If you hated RTCW and ET and love CoD, definitely buy this game. If you're a huge fan of the old RTCW/ET and were looking for new maps/new engine/slight improvements on that gameplay like I was hoping for, you better run.
Great Single Player Shooter!!
If you are old school, you will enjoy this game. It has classic Wolf tones with a great new twist in the "veil". I solely bought this game for the single player content and not MP. They didn't have MP play when the orignal came out so I went in with that type of expectation. All the stuff I had seen on TV and had read didn't boast about the MP play. It was all about the SP experience. So that being said, here is what I think. The game has loads of enjoyment. The storyline is 1 that will not make you skip the cutscenes the 1st time. The graphics are beautiful. And the music really does "kick in" when the action starts to get fast and furious. The music is quite varied so far, so it's not the same thing over and over. I have completed 3 missions and I am 1 of those types of players who needs to find every item and secret in a level/mission. Finding secrets in this game gives you the ability to unlock upgrades for your weapons and powers. You also need to find the hidden gold so you have the cash to upgrade them. It isn't as easy as you think to find it all. The game can give you 2 types of gameplay experience. You can play normally OR go into the "veil" and play completely that way. It is really cool the difference between the 2. There is some really cool stuff you see in the "veil" that you don't see in the regular world. The weapons are amazing as well. There are several upgrades you can get for each 1. Also the powers you get are cool and thry have upgrades as well. And YES the game has replayability. Like I mentioned, you can play either in the "normal" world, or completely in the "veil", which gives you a whole different experience. On top of that, you cannot upgrade ALL of your weapons and powers with the gold you get. So in that regard you might make different choices in a 2nd run. The only thing I have a gripe with is the enemies in the game. They are not too hard to deal with, yet and I am playing on normal. 1 mini-boss I came across was in this pretty big room and has TONS of ammo lying around and I killed him in 2 seconds. That is the only flaw I have seen in SP play so far. Maybe hard difficulty is the level to start at for most players then. Overall I gave it a 9 for that reason alone. So I hope this helps with someones decision to buy the game.
Wolfenstein is a great game overall and does have a few glitchs in MP but the SP is great and MP is quite fun despite some flaws. The game has alot of potential and is very fun to play and does not giving you very intense gunfights. Alright now that I've covered the basics I'll get to the PROS and CONS PROS: (1) great SP with imppressive visuals. (2) awesome weapons like the particle cannon and the flamethrower. (3) no crashs during SP and very lifelike physics. CONS: (1) there is a lot of lagging in the MP but it is still somewhat fun. (2) not very many MP maps (only 8 MP maps). (3) SP is a little short but is still very addicting. (4) alot of connection issues during MP. Overall great game great storyline and great gameplay. Although there are alot of glitchs it can easily be fixed through patchs and updates but is the BEST game that I have ever played (next to HALO of course).
First Impressions . . .
I picked up the new Wolfenstein last night. I played for a few hours and so far I'm fairly impressed. The game looks great and the controls function very well (similar to previous versions). So far, the gameplay reminds me of a mix between Medel of Honor and HalfLife 2 with a little Wolfenstein thrown in. The character voice-acting is actually pretty good and, so far, the story is intriguing. I haven't played in multiplayer yet. I'll probably try that out tonight if I have time. One thing that has already dissapointed me though, is that multiplayer mode only allows 12 players (6 on each side), so it sounds like the maps will have to be pretty small unless any mods come out to allow more players. But, like I said, I haven't seen it yet so I don't know for sure if I'll be truly disappointed.
This is a real let down. I was hoping for game play and better graphics that at least Mimicked ET. The single player story line is pretty good, but i don't buy games on pc to play single player. Multi Player is just bad...I don't think you could patch this thing to even begin to compare to ET there's just to many problems with it. In a nut shell...this game is just a real let down!!! I really hope the developers can do something to fix this.. But i don't think that's even possible. How could a game like this from a franchise like RTCW even be given the Wolfenstein name? If i could return this game i would and hold out for COD MW 2 coming out in November. Hope this helps a little. Save your money and get in the bargain bin at your local Gamestop.
MP is seriously lacking
Do not get this game for MP purposes, you will be very disappointed. For those who played RTCW and ET; the V commands are gone, the servers are limited to 12 players, there are only 3 classes and it's not geared for being "covert" because of a stupid red arrow indicating to your enemies where your at which makes it very hard to do objectives. There is a lot of griping right now from some seriously disappointed RTCW and ET fans. As for Single player, its not to bad, but you should wait till the price goes down a bit. I mean realistically 70% of the people who buy FPS do so for the multi-player action, thats where the re-playability is at for goodness sake. This game is going nowhere fast, unless they overhaul the MP side of it. They came out with a MP patch already, which makes me want to believe they are committed to the game, but only time will tell.
It's a good thing that...
Well, im glad that i didnt buy CoD W@W now for pc, because it seems like this game is going to be the world war 2 shooter i've been lookin for that you can customize your weapons. I also can't wait for the story mode. I still remember rippin Wolfenstein 3D back in the day. This game looks good :)
What weve been waiting for...
For all of us Wolfenstein fans a new game is coming out to redefine the wolfenstein games. Its coming to PC, Xbox 360, and the PS3. Wolfenstein 3D practically invented the First Person Shooter (FPS) and the creators made the game even better in Return to Castle Wolfenstein. We got a taste of "Wolfenstein 2" which we all know as the multiplayer game "Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory" but the game had problems and was too large, so they made it for online use only. Its been quite a few years and us wolfenstein fanatics have been waiting for a sequel. The new game is made by id software and raven and was originally announced in 2004, its been in development for a long time.
