Sid Meier's Civilization®: Beyond Earth is a new science-fiction-themed entry into the award-winning Civilization series. Set in the future, global events have destabilized the world leading to a collapse of modern society, a new world order and an uncertain future for humanity. As the human race struggles to recover, the re-developed nations focus their resources on deep space travel to chart a new beginning for mankind. As part of an expedition sent to find a home beyond Earth, you will write the next chapter for humanity as you lead your people into a new frontier and create a new civilization in space. Explore and colonize an alien planet, research new technologies, amass mighty armies, build incredible Wonders and shape the face of your new world. As you embark on your journey you must make critical decisions. From your choice of sponsor and the make-up of your colony, to the ultimate path you choose for your civilization, every decision opens up new possibilities.

  • Seed the Adventure: Establish your national identity, choosing one of eight different factions, each with its own unique gameplay benefits. Rated 2 out of 5 by from Play Civ V instead and save your time and money. Civilization has to be one of my 10 favorite franchises over the past 30 years and has brought me possibly thousands of hours of entertainment and great memories. This game honestly was disappointing and does not live up to the Civ name. It was tedious, lacked the depth of Civ V, and is really a watered-down, poorly done skin on Civ V. I wish I had never bought it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Buy this game! Personally, I love Beyond Earth and a lot of what is has to offer. It takes many elements from Civ V and improves upon them and it includes many new mechanics that feel just right for the setting. The only major problem that I have with the game is the amount of aliens and the difficulty of the aliens in the sea. Other than that, it is a really fun game that I have already put over 100 hours into it. The sounds in the game, especially the music, are very well done and add to the other worldly feel of it. The only thing wrong with it is the lack of voice acting in some areas. The gameplay is really fun with the introduction of a more advanced Cover operations, Affinities that affects both play style and relations with other players, the ability to befriend the aliens, and so much more! The graphics are nice to look at for long periods of time, but they could have gone for a more alien look other than changing some of the terrain here and there. This game does have a good lasting appeal, especially if you love the game as much as I do. Over all, this is a well done game that improves upon the last in many ways, and I highly recommend buying it!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed, big time. I'm a huge, long time Civ fan. It's one of the few franchises I find tremendous replay value in. Unfortunately that streak stopped with this game. I had huge hopes and expectations from Beyond Earth and I started playing the minute it was available for download. Right away I noticed some things that felt off. I don't feel like writing a huge review however I'll just point out a couple things. The content in this game is very weak. The technology menu / system is poor and not well developed. The graphics are basically the same as Civ 5. The variety of unit options are minimal. The wonders in the game are lackluster, and feel like building any other structure. There aren't any scenarios. At least I couldn't find any in the poorly made menu system. Anyhow, I've put about 14 hours into the game all in the first week it was released and I haven't played since. I'm hugely disappointed I paid full price for this game and would welcome a refund from 2K. My suggestion is to keep playing Civ 5, and forget this game if and until they release some updates.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good game Has some of the old Alpha Centuri feel to it, along with the modern touches of the civilization series. New features too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It takes forever to do things I will admit this is my first Sid Meier's game. I've always heard great things about the others from friends. So as soon as I saw the context of this game, I thought it would be awesome. Man was I wrong. To start, there is no campaign, no cinematics other than the intro getting into the game. The game is just built like your going into some RTS multiplayer match. So I get into the game, already starting to wonder how things are. And when I go to start learning controls/building it gets even worse. I won't even mention my dislike of the turn style play, as I can deal with that. But you don't just click something, and a pop up menu tells you your options what to do, you have to go from menu to menu to do stuff. Once you figure out how to make a unit, it can get a little better, but it takes forever for it to move places, and as long if not worse, to get a worker unit to build something. If your a new gamer, going into this game.. I say STAY AWAY. If you already played Sid Meiers games, and you like it? Go for it. But I would not recommend this to anyone. I expected something in between starcraft and Sim City, but this is far from that.
