RPG Maker VX Ace
Its a wonderful "Game" but not for everyone.
Rpg Maker VX Ace is a wonderful "Game" to create your own games (At least games of the RPG genre). It takes the basics and covers most of it for you and premade system. How you change it is entirely up to you and what you want out of the game you make. Its very useful if you know what you are doing and if you love to create.
However if you can't dedicate yourself to make your game good (True you could make a game thats just silly), then this product may not be good for you, as there is work involved in making a good game.
It is a very useful "Game" however wether one finds it easy to use or not, and is capable of creating any game when one puts their mind to making it happen. It comes with a premade battle system, and character images, along with a map creation system and premade maps to use as a base.
Using Rpg Maker VX Ace is alot easier to use than programming a game from scratch and drawing all the art yourself, making the music yourself and then programming the art and music in. This program is a must if you want to get into making RPG Games.
Excellent tool to start making your own games!
RPGMaker VX Ace is a game that lets you make games. It is the latest (as of September 2013) in a series, and this is the best one yet. The interface is intuitive, but there is a comprehensive Help file and message boards across the internet to help when you need help.
It comes with everything you need you make your own RPGs, plus it has the ability to import graphics, music, and sounds from elsewhere, making it easy to change the look and feel of your creation. People who can program in Ruby can actually write scripts to do more complex things, making it a powerful tool for game designers rather than just a toy.
The replay value is super high- once you're done with a project, you can just make a new one! I actually learned a lot about graphic editing, organization, storytelling, and programming from working with RPGMaker, so it can be an excellent learning tool as well. Each game you make is better than the last, just from the experience of using the Maker.
Highly recommended for anyone who's played a game and thought, "I want to do that." Because now you can.
Great for living out that childhood fantasy
When I was a kid I was always in awe at the amazing games that I could play. I got invested in the characters, the plots, the worlds I played through - so much so that I would take pen to paper and write my own little games. Games that were part of my 'what if...' dreamscape for many years.
What if one day I could make a game?
Years later I finally managed to complete that dream - all thanks to Enterbrain - the creators of this engine series.
If you ever shared my childhood fantasy, ever dreamed of creating your own cast of characters and setting them off into a world of your own making, you can now live it.
With a simple, easy-to-use system; a great array of bright, cheery graphics; touching and epic scores; flexibility for new and experienced users, RPG Maker VX Ace is the best in it's field for easy game creation.
Great tool for hobbyist and RPG fans
RPG Maker VX Ace is very powerful and is a fantastic tool to help someone build an RPG in a fraction of the time. Normally, if someone wanted to make an RPG, they'd have to build it from the ground up with code, graphics, sound, music and all the calculations required in most RPG games.
The best part about it is the scripting (done in Ruby) which extends the functionality of gameplay in games you make. On that point, I rated Gameplay as 1 since there is no real "Gameplay" in RPG Maker VX Ace. It's not a game, it's a tool. Once bought, you can bring together a team of people to work on an RPG along with you and you can release some really spectacular games with it and sell them without the need to provide royalties.
If you're a fan of old-school RPG's and/or a hobbyist that wants to work on an RPG, then this software will really help you to accomplish this goal. I own it and it's serving me well, even for a non-commercial project!
Fairly Enjoyable "Game" (Game Maker)
While it isn't top class in terms of what you can do (several JP products do a better job and depending on your goal, some EN products may be better), it has some good things going. It is one of the better EN products for making rpg games. As it is fairly simple to use up to a certain extent, it can be a great tool for people who are fairly casual and just have passing interests. However, as you continue to use it, you will find that some tasks that would appear simple are actually fairly difficult due to the limitations of the core product. There are workarounds such as scripting, but generally that would either be for more experienced users or users willing to get resources from others. That being said, to get the most out of the product, you should be willing to invest hours of time if not days or weeks or even months (maybe even years). In short, despite all the issues with it, it is fairly fun to use and easy to pick up.
Great, but with some limits.
For anybody who wants to make a game to sell and make an extra buck(and are willing to spend $90 (which I guess they can earn back) to achieve it), this is perfect, except for some things.
For starters, even though you can customize windowskin, sprites, battlers, etc., you can't go far with customizing the actual layout of menus and such without some RGSS3 knowledge, which is a set back from other game makers that aren't good for JRPGs but do not require any knowledge of scripting languages.
Of course, if you know RGSS3, you're set.
And another small issue is that the Ace character generator does not fit well with any other graphics in the engine when referring to faces. All the other faces are side-view, and suddenly the Ace generator generates front-view faces? It's a bit confusing. And it would also be nice if we could put them into faceset sheets easily instead of multiple facesheets with only one face on them...
Yeah, there's some issues.
But if you look past those(and also realize that there are programs you could use to fix some of them) it is a great program for any aspiring game designers.
Do you like to make games, RPGs specifically?
This is the perfect tool to make the RPG of your choice! ...okay, like with all things, work must be put into making games, even with RPG Maker. However, if you've heard the saying "you reap what you sow", then you'll know that all the effort you put into whatever game you make will be immensely worth it... especially if you mess around with the program enough to need to bug-hunt mistakes you are likely to make. As this is the seventh product in the RPG Maker line for PC, the developers had spent a lot of time getting it to work right, starting with the release of RPG Maker XP in the West (which is the fifth product in the line to be made... it's just the first one to be legally available here). In short, this is the perfect tool to make your dream RPG, especially in regards to how much effort was put into this engine to make it better than its six predecessors.
Great for Entry and Professional Level Design
RPG Maker is very easy to use right from the start. A majority of the ground work is done already (except creating your game of course) and there are great tutorials available via blogs and forums. If you are unhappy with any materials available in the program they can be switched out for custom graphics and audio. Further advancements can be done via scripting using Ruby. The major view to keep in mind is RPG Maker isn't just a game, it is a tool for designing games. RPG Maker, by far, has been one of the easiest engines to learn and with taking the appropriate measures to create content can be one of the easiest engines to develop an Indie 2D RPG whether it be free or commercial. I'm very happy with the scores provided because ultimately it falls to the developer to create content. For the price, the included content is top notch in my opinion.
A wonderful tool that's easy to pick up and learn.
RPG Maker VX Ace is a program for creating your own video game. I know it says "RPG" in the title but I've seen a variety of games made on this platform: action adventure games, visual novels, rpgs and a host of other genres.
It's easy to pick up and learn in an afternoon or two. It's so easy that a child can learn to use it. However, it also has the options for more advanced users who can script to modify and make their own games.
It comes with a selection of basic graphics, music and sound effects to get you started but allows for the more creative to use their own assets. (I rate the graphics and sounds at an average not because I don't care for them but because it's only an average quality of what I've seen used in games made using the program.)
I've been a fan and user of the RPG Maker series for years and this latest installation is the best yet!
It's not a game, it's a game maker
RPG Maker is the latest tool in RPG Maker series. It's a decent tool to produce old school JRPGs for people who can't program. Out of the box it provides some graphics and sounds to produce a game. However be warned that it's graphic style is really outdated, they barely changed from 1995 and it's 2013 outside. The tool is useful only for making retro style Japanese RPGs and nothing else. Probably a good toy for kids who want to try their hand at making games.
