Operation Flashpoint: Red River
The most epic military simulator to date!
Well were to start. I bought Flashpoint Dragon Rising a few years back and wasn't very satisfied. The game itself was "mediocre" nothing special. But I believe Red River is everything Dragon Rising should have been. From player classes, customizing weapon load outs, to player progression and ranks. But don't think this is your average arcade run & gun shooter.
Red River is not your average shooter game for a number of reasons. It feels and sounds VERY realistic. The bullet ballistics are amazing, from sniping an insurgent 900 meters (and watching a very red mist of blood with some of the most awesome death animations I’ve seen in a game) to a Chinese PLA soldier 2 feet in front of you, it feels super realistic when you shoot someone. You have to actually plan and strategize how you engage enemies rather than go all out guns a blazing. This is a game were most missions take about an hour to accomplish. And if you’re a true hardcore shooter fan it will probably take much longer.
I’m a graphic designer and the direction they took the art and look is astonishing! The ambience of the Middle Eastern mountains and the lighting is absolutely beautiful. Graphics are not Battlefield 3 quality but its still a great looking game. Overall, the weapons and sights are beautiful to look at, feel realistic, and do ALOT of damage. Game play isn’t the best but that balances out with the huge open world your playing in, literally allows you to take the mission any direction you want.
You can play the missions any way you choose, from being a basic rifleman, support gunner, demo\grenadier, to a short range marksman to a long rage sniper. So if you’re a fan of the classic Delta-Force game for the PC you will deeply appreciate and have a lot of fun with this game. If your into deep hardcore military strategy games this is for you!
