Meet Your Mass Effect Andromeda Squadmates: Liam And Peebee
by Kimberley Wallace

BioWare has always had a knack for creating memorable characters, and the Mass Effect series has continually provided plentiful personalities to grow attached to. From the ultimate best friend Garrus to Mordin, the singing salarian seeking redemption, Mass Effect has allowed us to build a camaraderie with our squadmates through one-on-one chats and party banter. Mass Effect Andromeda starts a new chapter for the franchise and with it comes a younger, less experienced cast trying to find their way as outsiders in a new galaxy. "I think [the younger cast] provides a new energy and allows you to have a slightly lighter tone," says creative director Mac Walters.

While characters are more likely to joke and play around, it doesn't mean the journey isn't full of epic moments and intense decisions. After all, these characters are bold enough to take this 600 year one-way to journey to Andromeda. Things are bound to get serious and chaotic at certain points, but Walters says having a cast with a more of a "leap before you think" mindset made the most sense for a story like this. As with past games, expect tension between characters as they all have different perspectives and goals. During our cover story visit to BioWare's offices, we were introduced to two unique personalities joining your crew: Liam and Peebee. While BioWare wants to keep details under wraps about the characters' reasons for getting involved with the Andromeda initiative, we were able to get an idea of their personalities and skills. Here's what what they bring to the table.

Liam

Liam is a former police officer who arrives in Andromeda aboard the Hyperion. He's part of the Pathfinder team and helps with security. "Liam is the youthful, enthusiastic, and in some cases, the idealistic follower that you get," Walter says. While he takes his duties seriously, he tends to have a lighter tone. He may try to add levity to situations by being upbeat, he also wears his heart on his sleeve and gets fired up easily. For instance, in an introduction scene we saw during our visit, he's quick to show his anger and react when things go south while the team is out exploring. That doesn't mean he's not there for Ryder though and doesn't support the decisions that must be made by Ryder in these dire moments. "He's got Ryder's back," Walters says. Liam is also very hopeful for the new future of humanity. We'll just have to wait and see what happens if other characters challenge him on that.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Need Work I could not wait to purchase this game as soon as the ps4 pro was launched especially with the stunning visuals this game displayed. Upon playing this game I have seen many bugs and poor voice overs I felt like i was playing a Japanese movie! I firmly believe that launch date should have been delayed at least another year or two to fix these issues!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Still fun despite the bugs An interesting idea to take Mass Effect. I've had issues with both bugs and my console so I have yet to complete it, but it's enough to keep you interested.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING ! This game was just awesome ! I thought I'd give it a shot since I never played the original mass effects and I gotta tell you it was so worth it and I'm so glad I did ! Hopping for some DLC or a second game to follow !

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Well, it's a game. There's not much to say. Just another modern Bioware game. It's a bad Mass Effect fanfic and a passable, but still kinda bad, game. It honestly has great gameplay. Not amazing and it's kinda easy but still great. Random lag spikes, some of the animation is still awful, and I thought the characterization was terrible. The sound and graphics are "about right." Average at best. But overall, the score is killed by the fact that there was no lasting appeal, FOR ME. YOU may like it and feel the need to see things from a different angle, but I don't think much changes, even when you do take different choices. I didn't know what to label this as, so I just stuck it on Casual as a meme. Oh, and this would have been a 3 star review, but Manveer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than people say :) I never write game reviews but decided to for Mass Effect Andromeda because all the web is doing is bashing the game. I honestly love the game. The graphics do have room for improvement (especially female Ryder who you should never play on default) and the game starts off a bit slow but it does pick up. Honestly didn't find anything wrong with the gameplay and the teammates were great(except Cora lol). I found this game fun because it kept everything I loved about mass effect (good story, lots of side missions, romances, cool teammates) and put it in a completely new setting. Unlike the previous mass effects, this one is more upbeat and full of jokes(some admirably bad) however given that this game is full of people who decided to leave there galaxy to come to a new one and not reaper fighting veterans, i get that. Anyway, I personally think its a great game and definitely seems to have paved a road for an andromeda 2. If you want to play this game but are unsure because of bad reviews then I say ignore them. In the end only you can decide if it's a fun game :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My First Mass Effect Game & I'm Really Enjoying It I purchased Mass Effect: Andromeda for my PS4 Pro and it looks AMAZING in 4K HDR! I have currently put over 8 hours into this game that I purchased a few days ago and I've had a great time playing it! I had read reviews about facial animations being messed up at launch, but there was an update not too long ago that helped fix a-lot of the facial animations that weren't synced correctly with the voices. The faces of the characters could use a little more graphical advancements which I read is actually being worked on for a future update, but everything else looks gorgeous! The sound effects for this game are spot on and really help bring the Andromeda world to life! The story so far, in my opinion, has been very interesting, and has kept me coming back each day wanting to play more and learn more of the story. I saw that BioWare has acknowledged other reviewers comments and feedback, and they said that they will be working hard to fix as much as they can for future updates which is nice to hear. This is a comment BioWare made in a post on their website for Mass Effect... Over the next two months we’ll be rolling out additional patches which will go even deeper and look to improve several areas of the game: - More options and variety in the character creator - Improvements to hair and general appearance for characters - Ongoing improvements to cinematic scenes and animations - Improvements to male romance options for Scott Ryder - Adjustments to conversations with Hainly Abrams - These upcoming patches will also address performance and stability issues. We’re also looking at adding more cosmetic items to single player for free.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The beginning of something new! I don't know where all the hatred for this game has been coming from lately. First off we need to stop comparing it to the original Trilogy. The way I've explained this game compared to the old is that the old games are like Battlestar Galactica with action and saving all life. This time around it feels more like Star Trek, exploring new planets, races with action every so often. First off I agree the animations for the facial expressions aren't great, but nor were the old ones so let's stay off that topic. Overall the game actually looks great especially the worlds. Ranging from desert to dense jungles this game doesn't lack content. The combat this time is a lot more free flowing than before, not putting as much of an point on cover and shoot tactics. This time around we have a lot more options for Tech, Combat and Bio moves we can use. While the wheel has been taken away they made it more accessible using buttons so combat is a lot faster paced. I liked how this time around the main character was more lax and charismatic. While the story isn't as intense as fighting off the Reapers, this game set a new course in us having to think more of like an explorer trying to colonize than trying to defeat some enemy. While there is a new enemy, the Kett, they are vastly different from Geth or Reapers adding something new and interesting to the universe. While the Remenent seemed to be a main point in the game I can't say they were all that interesting and a bit overused. This time around gathering materials is a main point to the game if you want to create weapons, armor and upgrades. Scanning is a new feature in this game when you are walking around. While it can be annoying at times, it's easy to use and adds more to the explorer mindset. This game is defiantly worth a try to any Mass Effect fan, but keep in mind it might not blow you away like the old ones did. I believe, however, while it is going in a new direction it is something new and exciting that can used for some time.
