Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Game As a long-time Final Fantasy fan, I actually very much enjoyed FFXIII. It doesn't deserve the hate it gets from other Final Fantasy fans. The storyline was amazing. The characters were very well developed. Its biggest issue is its linearity. While it does help focus on the story, it takes away the feeling that Final Fantasy usually had. Despite that, it still was a really solid game. It still felt like a Final Fantasy game, but it was a little different from the older Final Fantasy games (which made sense because Final Fantasy fans were wanting something different when XII came out; then they wanted to complain about the fact that XIII was different from the older ones). If you want a game that's consistently good and fun throughout, I really suggest Final Fantasy XIII. Don't listen to the hate it gets from other Final Fantasy fans. This old school Final Fantasy fan enjoyed it very much, and it may go down as one of my favorites from the series (behind VII & X).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from FFXIII RUINED the Final Fantasy franchise. Final Fantasy XIII sucks and is literally one really long hallway with one big room in it. FFXIII nearly plays itself, you just keep going forward, mashing x and the paradigm button. No interactive towns, no airship, no world map, no good sidequests, can't customize party how you want most of the game, can't control every character but instead the AI controls the characters, playing itself for you, etc. So, that is why Final Hallway XIII / Hallway Fantasy XIII is among the worst games ever made.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Final Fantasy XIII: My New Favorite Game Final Fantasy has been around for a while, but this is the Final Fantasy game that introduced me into the series. In my opinion, Final Fantasy XIII is an incredibly amazing game. From the storyline to the dynamic characters, from the picturesque settings to the beautifully orchestrated music, this game is an easy favorite for me. As a fan of RPGs, I've never really tried a "JRPG" before, but Final Fantasy XIII has shown me a new sub-genre of gaming to love. Downside(s) Only one thing I found that slightly irked me about the game is the post-game or end-game Gil (the in-game currency) and item farming to get the coveted 100% completion. It can become mundane, but I've been able to push myself through. Another common complaint I've seen online is people are upset this PC remake of the PS3/XBOX 360 doesn't use 1080p but 720p for the graphics. Personally, I don't find it a concern big enough to not buy the game. Could it look more polished up, sure, but what couldn't? It still plays well and looks stunning. Good Bits One of my favorite things about this game is the fact that it's incredibly easy to get the hang of battling monster (which is the main game-play mechanic). As you progress, combating enemies goes from something easy-breezy to moderately challenging to downright complex. The game does an incredible job though of introducing each new character, skill, ability, and game-play mechanic in a timely fashion which makes it easy to adapt to. Some battles will literally last you six seconds while others can have a "target time" of 30 or more. The characters are another thing I fell in love with for this game. The cutscenes that develop the plot further with well-spoken dialogue and an amazing array of people. Along the journey of Final Fantasy XIII you'll meet people ranging from the stoic "Lightning" Farron to the overly optimistic Oerba dia Vanille. It's an incredible array or personalities that collide due to fate, and how they interact is beautifully done. In summary, Final Fantasy XIII is a wonderful game. It offers a challenging game-play with easy-to-use controls, scenic locations, all wrapped up with an amazing storyline. Bonus If you end up loving this game the way I do, you should check out the two sequels to Final Fantasy XIII. Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. I've read rumors they'll be released for the PC in the near future, which would make sense with them finally releasing the first installment in the trilogy on the PC.
