This game blew me away... but
This game simply blew me away, but there are a few things in it that people will try to hold on to just to drag the game down. Sure, there are a few textures that could've been better (hair, skin, etc), and the facial motion characters used in the dialogues is not the best, but if gets the job done. If people learn to see through those minor details, they will have an awesome time playing this game. It's story is compelling with an incredible sci-fi setting. The not-so-far future presented in this game demontrates that the singularity effect that is imminent. What people don't realize is that these changes are aproaching us faster than previously imagined. The singularity is what author and inventor Ray Kurzweil describes as a period in the near future (between 2027 and 2049 (2049 being the singularity)) where the techonlogy will be so advanced, that unless you enhance yourself, you won't be able to keep up with it. Hense, augmentation of the human body and mind will become second-nature to some.
Deus Ex was one of the best, yet overlooked, games ever made. The sequel, Deus Ex: Invisible War, was less a sequel, and more of a continuation. No game before or since seems to have captured the multiple options approach to each situation. In Deus Ex, if you came across a locked door, and had to get inside, you had multiple options, such as, attempting to pick the lock, break a window, blow the door apart, see if you could enter through the air ducts on the roof or the sewer beneath, see if there was a remote opening, or wait for a guard to enter. Half-Life, as great of a game as it is, gets the credit Deus Ex deserves for being the greatest FPS/RPG ever made.
Deus Ex changed the whole genre
Fps games were just corridor shooters before Deus Ex came out. Then after that we had games like half life and Vampire the masquerade. And finally Fallout 3. All because of Deus Ex. They added character development to the genre and expanded the story to include multiple story arcs so you feel like your really making decisions. Not just along for the ride. This is a pre-order no brainer for me. Oh and its gota be PC. No matter what the fanboys say, mouse- keyboard control for fps is the king.
Excited Yet Concerned
I love the first two Deus Ex games and am excited a new one is FINALLY being made. I feel Deus Ex never really got the recognition it deserved. I am concerned though that Square Enix is involved in this one. I'm worried about how it will effect the game. I'm not a fan of Square Enix's typical games, nor do I think it will translate well to Deus Ex. While the trailer does look cool I already see some changes that deviate from the first two significantly. I just hope it isn't changed so much that it is no longer truly Deus Ex and just a new game they put the Deus Ex name on to lure in it's fans.
Meant for those who've played the original
Just incredible. Although no game will ever match the experience created by the GOTY title which were blessed with in 2000, this one is a close competitor. The gameplay once again supports almost any approach, the story is just as twisting and enveloping, and the humor and easter eggs are spot on. If you haven't played the original you might be very confused and upset. This is a completely different kind of game. Nothing like COD, Battlefield, Fallout, or anything else you might compare it to. Excellent game none the less.
If you like Splinter Cell
You will LOVE this game. You can play any way you want. do all the missions with stealth, or go in guns blazing or some combination, its totally up to you. My first play through I went with the stealth mode and tried to not kill anyone. It was very challenging. The next play through I went with the tough guy approach and it too was a challenge. I like how you can choose how to customize your augments, but in the end you can get them all so it really just depends on what you want when you want it. The graphics are beautiful and the sounds is very realistic. People can hear you walk, run , jump, fall, open doors and they can see you when you hack computers. The AI is not the brightest but it gets the job done. I like how they did the cover aspect too, it works well for getting the missions done. I also liked how there was always another path to the goal and they are not obvious. Another good part of the game is that it lets you customize your weapons to your liking, if want to blast away mod the combat rifle, if you prefer stealth mode the tranquilizer gun. Over all it was a fun game and I have played through it twice and worth the price.
Rocking the Reviews
I know reviews are worth a dime a dozen but good lord, I do not think I have seen one review below 94% yet. The art direction, freedom of choice with missions, cyberpunk setting, interesting protagonist, intelligent story mixed with moral dilemmas, and so on and on just make me want to have this game yesterday. I am old enough to have played the original Deus Ex as a kid when it came out, this looks to be a worthy addition to the franchise.
If only it were longer.....
I loved this game right from the start. steam made it difficult to install and launch, but it was worth it. the graphics are amazing, the characters relatable, and the environment spectacular. i do, however, wish it could have allowed for free roam and quests after completing the campaign. either way, great game, just a little short..... word for the wise, play it over and over to see everything...... and download the augmented content from steam. they dont make it that easy to find.
Excellent mix of FPS, SCI-FI, and RPG.
For anyone who has played Deus Ex 1 and Deus Ex 2, then you should understand the storyline behind Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The graphics are beautiful. An example would be the characters faces, they are rendered very, very, GOOD. One of the aspects that make this game enjoyable, is you always have multiple ways to solve any situation. This game in ways reminds me of Splinter Cell and a modern FPS mixed. What I also like is that there are references to original Deus Ex. Overall, if you like FPS, SCI-FI, and RPG, then this game is for you.
