Aftermath is the 4th dlc in the BF3 game, and is hands down one of my favs. The maps are great, the new vehicles aren't that amazing, but they fit right into the maps they are placed in. Scavenger mode is a brand new concept, and it's fun. It eleminates the use of vehicles, and teamwork, two of the main reasons i love this game, however it's nice to have some variety. Scavenger mode you start off with pistol only, you still cap flags like conquest mode, but you pick up any real guns throughout the map. Even when you pick up a higher end gun like the PKP, you still aren't set. most guns typically come with one clip, and ammo goes fast. so you continue to scavenge throughout the entire game.
The maps themselves are great, and two are in my top favs, which previously consisted of only canals (origonal map) karkand and oman (back to karkand dlc maps).
The real highlight is the crossbow unlock. This thing is great, however it requires real skill. It is used in any class (medic, support, engineer, sniper) and takes up the "equipment" slot. In other words you can be a medic, with shock paddles, and have your main gun, side arm, AND a crossbow. Also this thing can have explosive heads unlocked. Effective against infantry but mostly with direct shots. Long range bolts for sniping. you can unlock the "scoped" version, etc. Note, this is a weapon that requires skill. If you are good at sniping you should be able to pick it up. (and by sniping i mean one shot one kill, not 30 shots fired as fast as possible hoping one will hit the target). It's nice with support to have the ability to have a ranged explosive that can disable helicopters in one shot. Previously as support i rock c4, but any aircraft and i might as well throw in the towel.
I highly recommend this dlc. Out of dlcs i recommend most (for bf3) it'd go Back to karkand>Aftermath>Armored Kill>Close Quarters. Karkand being fav, Quarters being least fav. However i highly recommend going ahead and getting premium. Slightly cheaper then getting all of them individually, you get in game bonus content, and when the last DLC comes out, you can have it 2 weeks early.
