Product Details:

Has-Been Heroes is a roguelike action game featuring a band of heroes on a quest to escort the King's twin princesses to magic Academy. The game combines strategy and action into a mix where you control three characters and focus on combining spells and items for devastating combo effects!

Has-Been Heroes features a young rogue, a wishful wannabe hero, who stumbles across a pair of old, battle-worn heroes. They receive the ultimate quest from the King - escort his precious twin princesses to Princess Academy, on the far side of the world. Eager for heroics, the young rogue joins the band of heroes and the trio put their best foot forward.

As the heroes travel across the world, they come across a wide variety of enemies - ranging from bad-breath skeletons and zombies to evil spirits, the meanest of all enemies (100% evil!). Each enemy type (and enemy subclass) has specific attributes and immunities - evil spirits cannot be hit by melee attacks, for example, so the player needs to make them hittable by using spells of a certain type.

New characters are unlocked during the course of the game. The new heroes are each unique with custom attributes and a set of different starting items/spells that give the player an edge in combat - or a vulnerability.

  • Each run is unique with random encounters, spell and item drops, as well as regions.
  • The game features 200 items and 100 spells to unlock. Only a fraction of these are available in the first run, and obtaining new items and spells is a game changer for the player.
  • Death in Has-Been Heroes is a common occurrence and permanent, and the player has to start over. However, death comes bearing gifts, literally!
  • Over 100 hours of gameplay
  • Has-Been Heroes has a story that keeps on growing as the player plays and completes the game.
  • New story layers are added with each playthrough.
  • 2D art style with visually stunning spell effects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Having more fun than Zelda At first glance I was never interested in this, only bought it now since Gamestop is doing 50% off. I'm glad I did because this happens to be the funnest game I've played in a long time. Understand it is a rogue-lite style game, so you're only goal is to make it as far as you can before you die. Each enemy you defeat goes towards unlocking items that you might get to use on future playthroughs. The gameplay is super fun and addicting.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from horrible game, came with my bundle The only Nintendo Switch available over a month ago when I finally found one, was a bundle. This useless game was forced upon me. I got around to playing it the other day, and it just so horrible and stupid. I can't understand why anyone would want to play this thing. If you are considering buying it please go to YouTube and find some gameplay videos and you'll probably change your mind.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Indie Sidescroller "RPG" Disaster I bought this hoping for a decent RPG experience on the Switch. What I got instead was a garbage indie title side scrolling title similar to plants vs zombies. Game play is stale and boring. There are no real RPG elements. Graphics are worse than the original Wii and the sound is generic and bland. This should be a $5 indie title, and would be better suited for play on a mobile device. Don't waste your money. If you want a good RPG experience download I Am Setsuna instead. If you are looking for a mindless mobile game get a cheaper one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Could-Be-Better Heroes I've played Has-Been Heroes for a grand total of 13 hours. For the time that I have played it, here are just a few tidbits of information that I didn't know coming into this game... 1. Has Been Heroes is INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT! You will die and die a lot in this game. Any progress you have made across the locales, rather it's spells/items/keys/candles will get reset back to nothing. The tutorial is brief and there is NO in-game manual or support. I found myself doing research online to get a better idea of what I should be doing. 2. It will take several plays to "get it". Stamina is a huge factor in how you win in this game. Stunning enemies and breaking down their shields is key. I didn't really realize this until a few hours into the game and consistent dying. 3. The Bosses in this game can be ridiculously hard to the point that winning might just be sheer luck. Especially later bosses like the Fire Skeleton-- I find it interesting that more developers are trying to come out with Rogue-like games, and while Has-Been Heroes has a solid system - it is hampered down by an insane difficulty. Some Suggestions for Improvement: 1. Make the game easier for beginners - some people don't want to put in the 15 hours of play time to "get it". Make the game more rewarding early on and challenging later. 2. Include an in-game digital manual (as an update) for players to look up and read. Allow the player to consult this digital manual as a companion to the game and include tips. 3. Make the Bosses easier. They are brutal. I have never wanted to throw my Switch out the window before I played this game. I mean come on. I spend 1-2 hours going through worlds only to die at a Fire Boss and lose everything and all my progress?! 4. Put in a Setting for players to get a "1-Up", allowing them to retry a Boss or battle if they fail. -- Overall, Has-Been Heroes is an average game, it's just not what I expected. If there is one thing this game does fantastic at, it's the soundtrack. Very memorable!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hardcore Puzzleish RPG This game is kinda a puzzle game and an RPG at the same time. You have 3 lanes and 3 heroes and baddies come from the right hand side of the screen and you must master the attacks your heroes have to kill all baddies before they kill you. NOW you will fail a lot it takes about dying 10 times to be Able to collect enough items to complete the first 2 bosses. Then you unlock more heroes and keep going over and over again . Its a great time waster and I playing it and trying to unlock all 20+ heroes.
