Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl
A One-Two RPG Punch.
Let's get the negative stuff out of the way: As a whole, considering this is really two games for the price of one, the (mind you, highly necessary) level grinding can get a bit taxing on the nerves and the labyrinth corridors may feel a bit bland after about a half-hour of exploring the lengthy passageways of any given area. Plus, the plot in Story Mode is a little dry and predictable. That said, the flow of combat, the amount of customization for each character (in Classic Mode, though you do have a fair amount of customization for the very likable cast in Story Mode as well) and the appeal of never quite knowing what's around every corner while honing your fantasy cartography skills gives "Etrian Odyssey: Untold" a reason to keep playing it. The grueling difficulty and sharp rewards make this game a grand recommendation for RPG enthusiasts and old-world tabletop gamers!
So Ready for This
So I finally bought Etrian Odyssey IV, and I've loved every minute of it. So just as soon as I heard that this game was coming out, I had to preorder it. I'm happy to see that they are sticking with the same game engine and gameplay format as the 4th one. I am quite intrigued to see how the pre-made team is going to work out. It's going to give the story some real in-depth feel compared to the older games. If you love dungeon crawlers, you have to get this game. Between all the skills, classes, monsters, and the custom map making, this is one game you shouldn't miss out on!
Simply a fantastic fresh old-style dungeon crawler
Recently purchasing a 3DS and looking for games that were worth the bang for their buck I came across this title. Needless to say, after trying out the demo and purchasing the game, I was blown away. The game offers a fresh, amazing look of the old-style dungeon crawlers many of us may have known years ago or even now. The art work is simply stunning and the 3D just makes every little work of scenery more gorgeous. The music is top-notch along with some great animated cut-scenes and great voice-acting, expected nonetheless from the guys at Atlus. That and top if off with an interesting story that just makes you beg for more, creates an amazing combo. The gameplay is what really makes the core of the game, as believe me, you will be playing a lot if you want to become great at this game. It follows the same kind of FF style people are familiar with before, ie. a battle menu with choices such as attack, skills, magic, etc. but with a twist on them with the addition of grimoire stones which change up the gameplay itself. This, along with the several different classes and set ups you can have leave you with an interesting experience every time you enter a new area. That being said, being a first timer to the series, I found the map-creation, a unique addition as well, making everything depend solely on you. Whether you be attempting to level up your characters(Yup, grinding is a big part of this game), or going through the floors, creating a map is important so you don't lose yourself in the vast areas, giving you plenty to do 24/7. Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl is simply an amazing revival of the old-school style, bringing in new ideas and a great story, along with the classic mode on top of Story mode, it's a game that most certainly has high replay value and is one of the many gems the 3DS has to offer. While it may not be for everyone, as it does require a lot of work to create maps as you go and a lot of grinding in order for you to not fall behind(A lot of it), those who can stick it through will be immersed in the wonder that is Etrian Odyssey.
A Truly Amazing Game!
To start, I am somewhat of a hardcore gamer. I love video games of all kinds, and I especially favor strategy/adventure/action games. I also love RPGs as well and have played a good amount of them. For the record, I have just recently started playing this game. I am quite new to the series, but I have quickly learned most aspects of this game. I started off with the demo of Legend of the Titans. I really liked it a lot, but I have lost interest in it due to its lack of story and character engagement
I decided to try this one out, and I gotta say that it is a very captivating game. Now they have a story you could follow along with and they even added animation cut scenes which are very beautiful. I also like that they added voice acting, but it can get annoying sometimes hearing your party repeat the same things. Not a big deal at all, really. And, I love how they added character expressions and movement, which gives life to each person.
I like the RPG game play system, the mapping system, although I do have my criticisms about certain aspects about it. Again, a minor issue. It's a very challenging game and you really have to put time in to leveling up, but that's the FUN part. I might just crank the difficulty to expert.
The next time I have some money, I'm getting this game for sure! I would also like to buy the previous installment as well. I give it the highest rating for graphic quality, game play, character and story engagement, challenging difficulty, and uniqueness. Well done, Atlus!
a 5 out of 5, 10 out of 10, 100 out 0f 100
This game is amazing, i got IV demo on my 3ds and it was ok, a little difficult and my characters died all the time. when i heard that this game was availabel as a demo i quickly rushed to get it. it....was....amazing. i was amazed at all the things that were in just the demo. one thing i was happy about was that their were cut scens so u can get an in depth feeling of the game. characters also had voices so u can get to know what their feeling and how. And probably the best thing is that the start of a battle, if your batteling monsters u have defeated before, your party members will remind u what attacks are best to defeat the creatures. i have to say, the makers of IV toke it and made it a heck of alot better. Im so buying this game and so should u.
An RPG for older, mature 3ds owners
There's nothing wrong with the cutesy kid-friendly games the DS is known for, and I personally enjoy Pokemon and Animal Crossing, but older players looking for a more substantial, challenging, thinking-man's RPG, look no further. Etrian Odyssey offers HARDCORE dungeon delving like nothing else on the system. It's lengthy, and slower paced than more accessible titles, and not something I'd recommend for the younglings out there -- it may not hold their attention well. But for people who are looking for substance, a game that rewards strategy and thinking, and a more gritty and adult-oriented game, this is an absolute MUST BUY.
When I got this game I was not sure if it was going to be good, I find out it was so good it pulled me into an EPIC game play for RPG. My friend is now hooked on the demo, now wanting the real game. I have wished that with the game so good, I wished I could play it while sleeping.
This game is so awesome if u are a hardcore gamer u should get this. i hope atlus decides to keep making games like this but u would have to get the first one on 3DS,etrian odyssey4 but anyway this game is so awesome!
The music, the graphics, the gameplay and story is all so good! This is my first time playing an RPG like this and i have to say ive been missing out on some stuff!
Very Intriguing Plot
I LOVE THIS GAME! The Story is very interesting! You need skill in this game in order to get past monsters that you really don't want to fight, cause if your not careful you'll end up fighting a monster with out enough MP or items and just get your butt handed to you. I'm still playing it because the the quest in the game are worth it. They may come off as annoying and just drag out the game, but the gains in level are worth it! Just don't be like me when you first play it and not equip higher weapons and armor like me. Play this game! It's fantastic!
