What's New?

Face Tracking 3D

Using the inner camera, face tracking 3D provides an improved 3D gaming experience from a wider range of viewing angles compared to Nintendo 3DS. The New Nintendo 3DS XL system automatically adjusts the 3D "sweet spot" based on the location of the user's face.

New Controls

The C Stick opens a new world to your games. With certain games, you can freely control the in-game camera to get a new point of view. And, new ZL and ZR buttons give you more options than ever.

Built-in amiibo Support

Tap an amiibo figure to the near-field communication (NFC) reader on the lower screen to enjoy amiibo features in compatible games. Get bonus items and content, customize your character, and more when you use amiibo figures (like Mario!) with amiibo-compatible games.

*amiibo figures sold seperately

Faster Processing Power

Improved processing power allows for faster loading of applications, such as Miiverse and games. Plus the improved CPU performance allows you to enjoy faster speeds for downloading software*.

*Download speeds may vary depending on internet connection.

Play Even More Games

You can still play all Nintendo 3DS games and nearly all games from previous systems such as Nintendo DS and DSi. And, some future titles will be exclusively playable on the New Nintendo 3DS XL.

Easy Data Sharing

You can transfer your photos, music, and other files between a PC and your system's microSDHC*** card via a wireless network. No need to remove the microSDHC card!

***Please note that microSDHC card data management is only compatible with Windows; not compatible with iOS (MAC) and Linux operating systems.

Ready to Upgrade

Taking your games with you is a snap. You can use local wireless to transfer all your data or just specific data from one device to the other. You may also transfer via PC.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not enough made with the right screens A majority of these came with tn panels on the top screen. the tn panel makes the 3d face tracker kinda useless. the shifts in color make it hard to keep the 3d, 3d. And there ARE some that came with ips screens on top and tn screens on bottom. There are even some that came with dual ips screens. So this is terrible. I used to have a hyrule gold edition with dual ips. Which to my understanding, were mostly made dual ips. I have this fates 3ds XL now but im going to return it because of the screens. All new nintendo 3ds XLs should come the same, there should be no lottery. Its not fair at all to sell products as the same when they are actually different. The color quality of the top screen doesnt compare to the bottom screen on my model. Ive contacted nintendo too and they will not reply. Other than that its a gorgeous system which is why im so bummed about the screens. Its way more beautiful in person and the white/black on the inside looks so nice its perfect. still hoping and waiting out so i can get a dual ips version.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Nice System, Minor Hardware Flaws When I unboxed this device, I had to say that the design of the system was phenomenal. In my opinion, the decals provide just enough visibility with proper lighting at all angles, but provide a very nice view when looked at just right. The system itself is a definite upgrade from the standard 3DS XL which is what I have been using prior to this purchase. My only concerns however, are 2 minor hardware flaws which may be unique only to me, but I must point out that if I have them there may be other hardware flaws elsewhere. The first flaw, which is my main concern, is that upon playing my first game I noticed that one single pixel on the top screen was stuck green. I've dealt with stuck pixels before, and being this was a brand new system I had to say I was slightly disappointed that my device had one. The other concern I have is the hinges on this system are not as smooth as other New 3DS XLs that I have seen. Maybe they just need to be broken in, maybe it's the system itself, I am not entirely sure; in my opinion though the hinges feel slightly gritty and are audible when opening and closing the device, and I am not talking about the clicks that it makes when locking to 1 of it's 2 standard opening positions. Apart from these, the device works perfectly, picture quality is great, and the steady 3D system is a huge upgrade over the old model.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cool New 3DS This 3DS i have been waiting for this release for a bit now, sad I couldn't get this special edition with it (or a deal for it), but this is a beautiful in my opinion. For a Fire Emblem fan like me since the beginning, I find it worth it. One downfall though the top of the 3DS is realllyyyyyy light, so even I can't tell whats on top sometimes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Choice for Upgrade I was one of those who missed out on the Awakening 3DS when it released a couple years back, and was also waiting for a nice, somewhat simple design for the N3dsXL with a pattern, but nothing too jarring. I was a little apprehensive at first about the decals (especially on the white half), but that quickly diminished as I un-boxed the system. You're able to make out the Dragons ever so slightly when looking at it directly, but it's most prominent when a source of light hits the N3ds at the right angle. Even for the black lower portion; despite the dragons showing up a little clearer against the darker color, it still isn't overwhelmingly so. Overall if you're looking to upgrade from an 'Old3ds' and you're on the fence about it about, I'd definitely recommend it (especially once it gets back in stock and not from scalper's hands). As far as the actual system goes though, it takes so much strain off of my hands; mind you, this isn't coming from someone with large ones either. It's also nice not having to feel like I'm focusing in on such a small screen either, so that takes a nice load off as well. This isn't necessarily a con, by any means, but I do find it odd that the wi-fi switch is only accessible through the system itself rather than a physical one being present on the outside. The one issue I have with this system is the potentially nightmare-inducing steps one has to go through to change out Micro SD cards. I needed an upgrade for memory as well, so I ended up doing a PC system transfer and went from 8-64gigs so I won't have to do that again for a while. ;_; ANYWAYS. Great system and option for upgrade, would recommend.

Rated out of 5 by from Worth buying! I haven't bought the new 3DS XL yet, but it seems like its high rating speaks for itself. I'm also a huge fan and collector of the new titles, I bought the awakening special edition 3DS bundle I was quite amazed at what the original system could do. Since the XL series i haven't been this amazed in a while that now Nintendo took a huge step forward for their handhelds, so it's time for me again to collect a New 3DS XL and Fire Emblem game at the same time, it's a win-win if you like the Fire Emblem franchise and also a special edition 3DS XL too, you wont be disappointed when this is released, you'll just be in regret if you didn't buy one.

Rated out of 5 by from I was hoping for this. Finally, an excuse to upgrade to a New 3DS. Just in time too, since my normal one is starting to fall apart a bit. Plus, I'll be able to wirelessly transfer everything from my old one to this one, so I won't lose anything! The system looks awesome, of course. I love the silver dragons on the white background.

Rated out of 5 by from Very excited to buy The Special edition New 3DS XL for Fire Emblem Fates is a must have for me, as I've been a fan of the series for quite a long time and I missed out on the chance to get the Fire Emblem Awakening Special edition 3DS. I'm greatly looking forward to picking this system up along with my Fire Emblem Fates special edition game. I would like to point out to those looking to purchase the system alone that it does not come with the games pre-installed. Some useful information to customers looking to upgrade their current 3DS, 3DS XL, N3DS, N3DSXL that I believe according to manager discretion if you look to trade in your current N3DS XL and want to data transfer you can do so, although you need to purchase this system upfront, do the transfer, return this ds and buy it back using the credit from trade in. I suggest calling a store associate if you need a more detailed explanation but I've done it before so rest assured there is an option to keep your current games and dlc on your current system safe and transferred into this new one.
