2DS Trigger Grips
The Ultimate in Handheld Comfort
I had been eyeing this particular accessory in my recent visits to GameStop, as I had just purchased a Sea Green 2DS, but as Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is coming out in just a month, I felt that this accessory would be necessary for SSB's heavy gameplay, so I went ahead and picked one of these up. When I snapped it in and got a feel for it, it immediately reminded me of one of my favorite controllers: the Sega Dreamcast controller. From the stick/d-pad/button placement on the 2DS, to the handles and trigger placement of the grip, the 2DS now feels just like the Dreamcast controller, except even more comfortable due to the grip's smooth matte-textured rubber, and the 2DS's & grip's combined weight being less than a Wii U Pro, Xbox One, or PS4 controller, and will make for a very comfortable handheld Smash Bros. experience.
The 2DS and this accessory make for the very best setup you could possibly ask for in games like Street Fighter, Tekken, Mario Kart 7, and Smash Bros. 3D, as well as preventing cramps during extended play sessions.
Quintessential 2DS accessory
This is quite possibly the best addon for the 2DS so far. Extremely comfortable. Makes FPSs like Metroid Prime Hunters and Moon: Chronicles much more playable. The material is rubberized plasic, and doesn't slide around in the hand. It is very bulky and fits the hands nicely. The triggers themselves are placed in a comfortable position on the backside of the grip and depress straight down, as opposed to the actual 2DS's triggers which depress slightly inward. The 2DS clicks very solidly into the grip, and won't accidentally come out unless you really want it to. There is adequate space cut into the shape of the grip to get a finger into the stylus area, as well as all other areas. Other than making the system even less portable than it already was, there are really no downsides. I waited like 3 months for this thing to come out, and since nobody on the entire internet seems to have reviewed it, let it be known that this is probably the best peripheral you'll ever purchase for the 2DS. 10/10
Fixes almost everything about the 2DS
OK, so I had read in review that the 2DS was comfortable in your hand. This didn't end up being true for me! I had seen this accessory at GameStop before and thought it looked ridiculous, but after playing with my 2DS for about an hour, I knew I had to get it. It's got great bulk, and is extremely comfortable. The 2DS couldn't fit in my pockets before anyway, so this didn't make a difference to me. I carry it around in my backpack, with the grip always on, the whole thing inside a beanie to protect the screen. The triggers themselves might be the thing that attracts you to the grip, and they work pretty well too. They're responsive and easy to reach, fixing the awfully awkward location of L and R on the 2DS. They do seem to stick a little bit, which is annoying, but not in a way that affects gameplay. But yeah, it's a FANTASTIC product. Fair warning, though, it can be a pain to try and pry the console out of the grip after you've snapped it in. But why would you want to do that?
Best accessory you could ever buy for the 2ds
The grips are well sized and make holding and playing the 2ds SO much more comfortable. I used to have very sore hands from the hour long battles with the Lagiacrus or the Qurupeco, but now, those are a thing of the past (the pain, not the battles). I found that the triggers were a little looser than I would have liked to play Super Smash, so I cut up some foam ear plugs and put them inside as I put in the 2ds. With a little fine tuning, the triggers are now super responsive. Easy fix :)
Excellent, Exactly what I was looking for and more
Whoever designed this product @ PDP I give a standing ovation.
Ever since I purchased my 2DS several months ago I could not get over how uncomfortable it was for me to use for any extended period.
This fixed all my issues with the 2DS.
- The controller like sides gives you a much more comfortable grip on the 2DS and gives someone with adult sized hands much better access to the buttons.
- The designed triggers in the back to press the L & R buttons on top make the 2DS now the best handheld I've ever used.
I think Nintendo should bundle this product with every 2DS.
Very comfortable but the right trigger sticks bad
I had to return the first trigger grip because the right trigger would not work. The second one worked okay for a while, but slowly became more inconsistent. Eventually, it would either not work at all or get stuck in the down position. I was using a brand new 2DS I had bought the same day. The grip is very comfortable, but makes playing Mario Kart 7 impossible.
The 2DS should've had these triggers to begin with
I bought the 2ds because it was durable, the 3d wasn't needed for me, and quite honestly because Nintendo refurbished products are so cheaply priced that i'd be robbing myself by not getting one. That being said, who's idea was it to put the triggers on the top? The Regginator should have a talk with that person so that they don't mess up like that in the future. That's why I got this. The triggers on this hunk of plastic feel amazing, and have their own springs that feel much nicer than the ones on the 2ds itself, which often feel like they hate being pressed with a burning passion. The added bulk doesn't add any noticeable weight, and it gives my hands enough room to not sweat all over the device. Plus, while there are cutouts and grooves for every important hole on the device, as well as a notch for the notification light, none of them drastically compromise the ergonomics of the device. Yes, you can feel the SD card/stylus cutout on your hand while you hold it tightly, but when your thumb is rested on the buttons like it should be, and your grip isn't a death grip, you will not feel a thing. Things can be felt, however, when touching the bottom screen with your left thumb, although, at least for me, this is only when i reach to the left half of the screen. This hunk of plastic has made playing smash brothers much easier, much less sweaty, and much more about grabbing and shielding with comfort. It did not, however, miraculously make me good at For Glory 1-on-1.
