What time is the round one 1v1 in-store tournament?

Round one in-store tournaments are scheduled to start at 9pm, but please call the store first to confirm. To find the location nearest you that is sponsoring a round one tournament please click here.

How can I play in the round one in-store tournament?

Contestants must sign up for the tournament on the Official Tournament Sign-Up Sheet (The sign-up sheet is located at the store). To find the location nearest you that is having a round one tournament please click on the link next to “Round 1 Store List.” The tournament is capped at 32 or 64 contestants per location (see store for details). If a store already has a full sign-up sheet, you may sign up as an alternate in the eventuality a contestant fails to show or a contestant does not meet the Tournament’s eligibility requirements. Or you can visit another location that is hosting a tournament.

If I win round 1, how can I get information about continuing to the online portion of the tournament?

Winners of the round 1 in-store tournament will receive a winner certificate with information about the online portion of the tournament which will be online powered by GGL.com. Follow the instructions on the winner certificate to advance to online. The online part of the tournament will be played online via Xbox Live. The format for online is ladder play where you will compete against other store tournament winners throughout the country.

What time is the online portion of the tournament?

Ladder Play starts on 10/11/10 and ends on 11/7/10. You will need your round one winner certificate to sign up for the online play. Once you register, you will be sent an invitation from GGL.com to play. You must have a XBOX 360, Halo Reach for XBOX 360, and a XBOX Live gold subscription to play in online tournament. Ladder Play is restricted for players who won round one.

How many players advance from the online portion of the tournament to the Finals?

The top 8 players from the in-store players online will advance to the finals.

What is the prizing for each tournament round?

Round One Tournament Winners – 1st place Halo Reach Ogio Backpack, 2nd place Halo Reach Crossing Excursion Bottle Set, 3rd place Halo Reach hat. Online part - Top 8 finalists from online ladder play qualify for a trip to the Finals Event (Location TBD) Finals – 1st place $2,000 and Championship Trophy, 2nd place $1,000

What is a winner certificate and what happens if I did not get one?

A winner certificate indicates that you won the tournament and can advance to the online portion of the tournament. If you did not receive a winner certificate after winning please contact the store that you played at.

What are the tournament game play rules?

  • The tournament will be played on the Xbox 360.
  • Players must use the controllers that are provided by the store.
  • No memory cards or third party memory devices can be used by contestants.
  • Map selected by GameStop tournament staff.
  • No leaving the outside of the map selected by the Gamestop tournament staff.
  • Players play on a split –screen (unless notified otherwise) but are not allowed to look at the other players screen.
  • Players may select any color or icon.
  • Shaking, jiggling (looking left and right in rapid succession to shake the screen) is prohibited. Any other action designed to disrupt the opposing player’s view of the field or ability to select controlled players is prohibited.
  • In the event of an outage of power, accidental unplugging, system freeze or some other event not in either player's control that would not allow the participants to finish the game, the game will be restarted using the "situational setup" to exactly match the score of the game and continue from said point.
  • The game settings are the following: (subject to change)

    • a.    Network: Local (if linking 2 systems use system link)
    • b.    Game: Slayer
    • c.    Map: TBD
    • d.    Hit X for Edit Game Options
    • e.    Score to Win: Unlimited Kills
    • f.    Team Slayer: Disabled
    • g.    Time Limit: 5 min
    • h.    General Settings:
    • i.    Select Base Player Traits=> Sensors=> Motion Tracker Mode: Off
    • j.    Select settings=>weapons and vehicles=>primary weapon: DMR

  • The winner of each game will be determined by final score and will move on to the next game. (In the event of a tie during regulation and overtime, and new game will be started with the first person to score being the winner)

  • GameStop Tournament Director and/or GameStop employees have the final ruling regarding any mediation of the tournament.
