Quite Possibly The Greatest Shooter Ever Made
If you're a shoot 'em up fan and have yet to play Ikaruga...HUGE SHAME ON YOU. It was made by 2D gods Treasure and if that doesn't sell you... nothing will. Ikaruga has you playing as a pilot who has to (yet again) save the world. The entire trick to the game though is the switching between your ships color black or white. You see, all of the enemies in the game are black or white, so if they shoot white bullets and your ship color is white then you absorb the bullets and dont die, but if your black and get hit with white bullets then kiss your ship goodbye cause your done, and vice versa. This simple (though incredible) twist elevates Ikaruga to the top of the shooter genre. You'll find yourself dying an INSANE amount of times because of all the massive bullets and lasers that occupy the screen, but thats what makes it great as you'll eventually get the hang of all the color changing lunacy and make it through the entire level. Ikaruga is a very short game, it only consists of 5 levels but again, the fact that you'll be dying a lot makes this game MUCH longer than it really should be. Graphics look fantastic, controls are super simple, and the music rocks. Its incredibly hard to find but if you do come across it consider yourself very lucky and be a part of what is arguably the greatest shooter ever made.
Best Manic Shooter.
If i were to recommend one vertical or manic shooter, it would definitely be Ikaruga. It offers so much more than just the hectic dodging and shooting like other vertical shooters. Offering to switch from white to black is the perfect way for someone to either gain more points, or keeping it safe, making it perfect for hardcore gamers and casual ones. Playing with a friend is also a fun experience and i would highly recommend this title.
