A well done prequel
Although it is showing its age, Origins is a great game that builds on it's predecessor. The card mechanics are challenging without being too confusing and the graphics are great for their time. Newcomers to this game cannot expect it to stack up to today's RPGs in terms of graphics or free-roaming capabilities, but it definitely has it's own unique charm. I have mixed feelings about prequels, but this one was an entertaining ride that brought players comfortably to the beginning of the earlier release. Highly recommended if you can find it.

Really awesome game
The world that is portrayed in Baten Kaitos is that of great dept and beauty. This was my first RPG ever and I both loved and hated it. Since this was my first RPG, that means that I didn't play the original game that came out first, so I was extremely unfamiliar with this style of game play. I could have read the instructions in the manual but I was "too manly to take directions from a book" and I payed a hefty price for my lack of knowledge from the first game and for not reading the manual. Once I finally finished the game I had a total of 135 hours on the clock. That's more than five and a half straight days. However, I highly recommend this game, but, please for your own sanity, play the previous game first. I, despite not really knowing how to play, enjoyed this game so much, It has such a beautiful design and really transports you to this world. It was a little hard to stop because it had me guessing the whole time. It's highly unique battle style, music and beautiful animation are a huge plus. At times I wanted to mute my TV because the music sometimes was a little too dramatic but I was stuck in some places for like 15 hours so it might just be me. This game is an island of its own (unique from all others) and I highly recommend it.
