Great game for it's age
Personally I have never finished this game, but it is a amazing game for it's era, and I would finish it if i could find my copy. For it's era of the late 80's it's great. The storyline is very in-depth, and is great for that. Kratos would have some valid points if it was that it was made in this era. But a late 80's game isn't going to have as good of sound as our modern games we play today. I highly recommend it, and I will most likely end up playing the rest of the series when I get the chance and can get the respective systems they are on(though if they are on the vita might be getting the vita for that as my other reason for wanting one besides the better game selection even if it is the digital games).

Thanks Namco!
While not as graphically beautiful as say FF on the gba, this First installment of the "Tales of..." series is simply a gem to play. Fast battles, beautiful score this game has everything an rpger could possibly want. Memorable cast and story line this game is a definite keeper. Final Fantasy it may not be, but all in all a great game none the less. Thanks Namco for finally brining this gem ashore.

It's okay.
I personally prefer the snes, psp or psx versions of this game. I bought this a couple of years ago and it could have been better made.
I personally used this as a guide for playing the psp version. (4 or so years after getting it)
Never did complete this as I was way too hyper in playing games but this is a keeper.
I also urge everyone to buy Tales of Graces F when it comes out.

Exellent First Installment
To start it off, the "Tales of..." series has been going on in North America since the release of Tales of Destiny. This game came before it actually, and this is the only official release of Tales of Phantasia on North American Shores. The Story is a relatively good length, I'd say about 20-30 hours if you do most of the side quests. It has 3 Major Locations, The Past, The Present, and The Future. The Graphic's on this game are a mix of the previous two installments, and it looks very nice on the Game Boy Advance's screen. The Character Sprites look like the characters, and aren't just a random body with brown hair. The Towns are very beautifully drawn, and have a nostalgic feel to them. All of the NPC's have a good amount of work put into them as well. The Battle System is probably the best part of the game. All of the Skills and Spells are voiced, as are the Victory Quotes. The LMBS (Linear Motion Battle System) makes the battle system real time, but, when High Tier Spell's are cast, or Summons, the screen will stop, and the Spells will carry out. The Animation's are very nice and add an extra element to the Battle System. The Music Sounds very nice on the GBA, and the game has some very catchy songs, such as TAKE UP THE CROSS, the main battle theme, OVERCOME DIFFICULTIES, the boss theme, and FIGHTING OF THE SPIRIT, the theme when you fight Summon Spirits. If you like main stream RPG's, or you are a fan of the Tales of... series, then this game is a definite buy. Trust me. You won't regret this game. It has all the elements an RPG needs, and an unforgettable adventure.

Not Bad.
Well, I have played other Tales games. I wanted to try the original, and a bought one at Gamestop. Pretty cheap, and not that bad of a game either. The Storyline is deep and complex, but the Sounds are sorta crappy. Anyway, the controls makes the game a challenge, making defeating monsters and such forth. The length to me is quite long. I have to admit the graphics are really bad. I am mean really bad. And cooking is really annoying. Unlike other Tales games, you can cook directly after battle. Not this game. After finishing the battle, you have to go to the menu, then cook. Not that bad of a game, but if they made a remake again, then improving it would me awesome.
