omg! bowser has kidnapped the princess and its up to mario to save her. move with the arrows jump over gaps and goombas with A pick up a fire flower and shoot fire balls with B its mario exploring 8 worlds. the designs are pretty good . the history for this game is that it was released in 1985 for the Nintendo Entertaintment System (NES)
This Is A Great Idea!
This is a perfect port of what is undoubtedly one of the greatest games ever. I never played the NES version, but from what I know, this is exactly the same game. It's still fun and challenging, for just about anyone and I personally think that making a modern portable version of Super Mario Brothers was pretty much the most brilliant idea that will ever exist in the world of video games!!! The only problem I have, is that I don't think it was a good idea for this game to include multiplayer. It's still the same alternating players weirdness. If you still own a Gameboy Advance or Original DS, you should totally pick this up! It is one of the most addicting games you will ever play on a handheld system!!! It can also be played on a Gamecube with an adapter! It's AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A great classic!!!
This game is fun and is a great classic. The graphics arn't the best but the storyline is great!
Despite minor differences, it's just what you played back on the NES.
Of course, I wasn't alive when the NES was. But I know this game was the real start of the plump plumber's rise to stardom in gaming history. Now, I think that Nintendo is really being smart by releasing these, because they can pretty much be played everywhere. You can play them on your Game Boy Advance, or you can get the Game Boy Player for your Gamecube, or get it off your virtual console on your Wii. I chose to buy this because I wanted a classic I could take on the go (I prefer Sonic a little more, but as you can imagine Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis wouldn't have worked out). So after paying, I popped it in and started playing. It is really fun, and I find that every time I play it, I find something new. It might be a 1-up, or maybe a Invincibility Star, or another Coin Bank. But whatever it may be, you'll be spending a lot of time with it trying to rescue the Princess. In regards of sound, they're ok for the NES, but in Super Mario Advance 2 (which is a port/remake of Super Mario World on the SNES) you can tell the sound improved a lot. But it's always fun to here the jingle of the coin or the escalating sound of the Super Mushroom. Suprisingly there are only 6 music tracks in the entire game-Ground, Underground, Water, Castle, Invincibility, and Boss Clear. So the music gets a little boring sometimes, but It's still enjoyable. The graphics are obviously simple pixels and dots but they did a good job with that animation alone. The game runs very smoothly most of the time, and it's not one of those ports that always has slowdown issues. It actually can go pretty fast. There are some problems, but nothing exclusive to the GBA port. If you're trying to make a tricky jump and you overshoot just a little it is very hard to brake and you'll probably fall. And if you are trying to stomp one of those Goombas, if you screw up BY A FRACTION OF AN INCH you are going to get hit. I have had that done to me COUNTLESS times, and that's why it's important to know your enemy and familiarize yourself with the game's environment. The story is simple: Princess Toadstool (or Princess Peach as we now call her) has been kidnapped by the evil Koopa (Bowser) and taken to his castle. It's up to Mario (and the lesser-played-with Luigi) to travel through the 8 worlds and save her. To sum it up, if you're an NES fan, Mario fan, GBA fan, or just want the game, go ahead and take a look and I'm sure you'll have a great time with this game.
Should have been the first super mario advance
This is a great classic. I think they should have released this as the first super mario advance. I think they should have at least edited the graphics. My two problems with this game is that there are only two powerups, the fire flower and the mushroom, and I also dont like how the game is predictable. It is also too easy but it is fun to find and use the warp zones. It has hours of Goomba stomping fun! I recomend this to a mario fan who wants to expierence the original.
Bring the Classics to the Future
The original Super Mario Bros. was one of the best games for the NES. It told a fair story line, and let you get to know the mushroom kingdom. Not many people still have a NES, so Nintendo decided to bring the classic to the GBA. Then later on to the Wii in Super Mario All Stars (below). All in all, totally worth buying.
Super Mario Bros is my favorite NES game, and 2D game. The boss fights were short, but thats how I like them. In newer games the boss fights take 15 minuites just to beat. Super Mario bros it thake about 15 seconds. The game that ended the video game crash lives on on the gameboy advance.
this game is great i love mario games but this one will not let me save!!! i hate getting to world 6 and haveing to start over and this game is hard!!!! and this game is old and this problem will never get fixed. i will just keep it and sell it when it gets valuable.
