Product Details:

Based on the highly-anticipated feature film from DreamWorks Animation, Over the Hedge for the Nintendo DS and Game Boy® Advance are two unique games that takes players on an interactive adventure beyond the film. Assuming the roles of RJ the raccoon, Verne the turtle and Hammy the squirrel, players turn a suburban neighborhood loaded with dangerous obstacles and traps into their own personal playground. Over the Hedge for the Nintendo DS picks up after the movie ends and adds an all-new storyline in which the characters must figure out how to save their woodland home from being overtaken by a new housing development. Over the Hedge for Game Boy Advance closely follows the storyline of the movie and allows players to experience the adventures for themselves.

* Players Experience The Camaraderie And Wacky Adventures Of Three Woodland Creatures As They Take Over Suburbia - Using the unique personalities and skills of RJ, Verne and Hammy, gamers conquer a neighborhood filled with foes such as Nugent the dog, Vincent the bear, the Taxidermist and Gladys Sharp, the animal-hating president of the homeowner's association.

* Follow The Movie's Storyline In Over The Hedge For The Game Boy Advance - In the Game Boy Advance version of Over the Hedge gamers accept challenges and quests that lead them through actual film adventures. Players must master stealth and heist situations each with its own unique location. Traveling from the forest through the suburban sprawl, players use cartoon weaponry in tandem with avoidance techniques to overcome dangerous machines, villainous gadgets and unfriendly animals. Advice and hints are offered to the player by the other members of the forest family, including Stella the skunk, Ozzie and Heather, the father-and-daughter possums and the porcupine family, headed by Lon and Penny.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Over the Hedge As far as movie-to-video-game adaptations go, you could certainly do a lot worse than Over the Hedge (ET.) However, you could also certainly do better (GoldenEye.) But, if your child enjoyed the movie, then they'll enjoy the game as well. Over the Hedge is pretty non-offensive, with bright and colorful graphics, a story that's certainly less dark than the movie's, and a clean and easy-to-learn interface. However, while the game may boast some pretty original gameplay, it still lacks the cleverness that many other platformers do so well. Actually, this game really isn't a platformer, but a stealth game. Imagine if Metal Gear Solid was G-rated, and you'd have Over the Hedge. The game isn't necessarily challenging or long, but fun can still be had if you enjoyed the original property. The controls of the game work mostly well, and the music isn't obnoxious, but something about this game just screams "phoned in" to me. I think that's why I can't totally recommend this to a child, because they will certainly find better games targeted directly to them.
