Rated 4 out of 5 by from A solid Action/Adventure Game Story: The story of Threads of Fate follows the bratty princess Mint or the far more serious story of Rue and his struggle between destiny and free will. Characters: Of the two playable I tend to prefer Mint to be honest. Her unbelievably bratty attitude sometimes appears to cover a far more caring personality that is hidden behind a mask of indulgence. Though, if that is just my interpretation or the actuality is beyond me. Rue is the far more serious of the two characters and his story arc is far more serious. Though this seriousness is such a contrast with Mint’s story that it makes Rue feel like an emo. Gameplay: This game offers an extremely simplistic approach to combat. While combat in this game is in real-time the game automatically locks onto the closest enemy and only uses a single button for physical attacks and a secondary button for magic attacks for Mint which offers a secondary physical attack for Rue. Rue does offer a few differences in terms of play style since he can transform into monsters that he has defeated in order to use their spells and attacks as well. The real problem with the gameplay is the platforming sections. Platforming in this game is extremely odd since you can’t land and then instantly jump again. After you land your momentum will carry you a few steps forward before you jump again. This basically means that you need to learn to land on the back end of a platform rather than the middle or front edge. Sound: A few of the tracks in this game are highly memorable to be honest. The best example of this would be “A Chance Meeting” though a runner up would be “Book of Cosmos” which plays during one scene during Rue’s story. The music does well in supporting the game and is sometimes a very strong mood enhancer even on its own. Graphics: This game is obviously extremely dated in terms of graphical ability. The game is clearly built upon a polygon structure and the designs of the characters make this an inescapable fact. The game also suffers from issues of overlap where certain objects will pass through another object. A good example of this is Mint’s hair which will rather regularly go through her back during battle. These problems aside the game has a certain visual charm as well. Level Design: Most of the stages in this game are extremely linear in nature, though a few of the later levels do focus a bit more on adding some puzzles that will force you to do some backtracking. The linear nature of most of the stages isn’t an issue though since most of the areas are small and filled with an appropriate number of monsters. So the areas never feel boring to run through. =================== Scores =================== Story: 7 Characters: 10 Gameplay: 8 Sound: 10 Graphics: 8 Level Design: 9 Overall: 8.67 =================== Recommendations =================== Ys The Ark of Napishtim and Ys The Oath in Felghana use similar gameplay mechanics. The only main differences is the fact that the Ys games also include the usage of equipment and accessories. Another thing of note is that the games also offer a level system as well as difficulty options. Naruto Uzumaki Chronicles is similar in terms of gameplay as well, but may only appeal to fans of the show.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of my all time favs! I love this game! I still own it! I love how you had two character storylines to play. And the storyline varied a little with each character so you didn't feel like you were just replaying the game with someone else. My favorite thing about this game is the storyline, especially Rue's, the main male character. I highly recommend this game to anyone who loves RPGs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome Classic This game is now a little outdated graphic wise, but this is one heck of a game. Still have the original copy. you play thru 2 different stories as 2 different characters. each story takes about 10 hours or so? And the music is great classic rpg sound. It is definitely a great game, and well worth the 5.99 that it costs. Check this one out, you wont be disappointed!
