Rated 4 out of 5 by from True horror I bought this without a second thought. I play it on the Xbox One. It looks good. The game isn't real easy. Which I am alright with that. It has the horror in it as all Silent Hill games should have. This is one of my favorite Silent Hill games.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from DownFall I love the Silent Hill world, but its been in a "DownPour" for years now. The first 3 I feel were the best. The 2nd being my favorite. Yes this game had a lot of upgrades since the 5th installment, but I still see the same flaws. That annoying camera being one. In most games the "autosave" feature is a blessing, but for this kind of game I found it annoying. (Bring back the red notepads!!!) DownPour is fun. I'll play a 2nd time, but its no hall of famer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from "Rain drops keep falling on my head" when it comes to horror games im definitely in the latter, i don't like to get scared while playing my games but silent hill downpour i made an exception for. and im glad i did. this game not only has scares but it also provides a unique new storyline and a new rain system that truly adds to the tension and the core experience while you make your way through the creepy and ominous town of silent hill. STORY: when you first start off silent hill downpour you are immediately thrown into the action. as protagonist Murphy pendelton your prison bus transport runs off the road and crashes into the eerie town of silent hill. as you progress through the story Morphy's troubling past begins to unravel and it truly leaves you with a great twist by the end of the game which for me was around fifteen hours. not to mention there are five endings leaving quite a bit of replay value for this title. GAMEPLAY: as for classic silent hill fans you probably know what your getting into. since i was new i didn't. for me the gameplay was fine silent hill is a very murky game due to all the fog. it really adds to the mystery of the town itself and really sets the stage for the monster encounters. sometimes you will be walking around the town and all of the sudden it starts to rain you either have two options stay in the rain and fight whatever comes for you or you could find shelter and wait out the storm(if you stay out in the rain it will eventually turn to a storm and it will downpour literally it makes the game harder in terms of combat and sight) i did both plus looking for shelter offers a great opportunity for the player to experience some of the most creepiest side quests ever. the otherworld from the previous silent hill games makes its way back but with a different style. this time when you enter the otherworld a vortex will follow Murphy at a very fast pace and it up to you to avoid it at all costs. when you eventually avoid it you sometimes have to solve one of the games many puzzles to get out but they're common sense and vary on what difficulty you play on. you can either choose to walk or run around silent hill i preferred running for two reasons its faster and it takes the tension away Murphy can also find tools such as flashlights lighters and a many other useful objects that help with his romp in the town. COMBAT: the combat is very slow Murphy can wield a number of melee weapons ranging from a simple brick to a fire axe to a house lamp. not all the weapons deal the same damage and they all have a durability limit so it is vital to keep track on how many encounters you can do before you weapon breaks. powerful weapons such as the fire axe and hatchet are quite useful in a fight but are scarcely limited so when you see one of these weapons you should almost immediately switch out your current weapon. there are also firearms which are quite powerful but the accuracy on all of them are horrible. it almost feels like the game dosent want you to use them. but that's fine melee is the way to go in these types of games anyway. the combat may be slow but it felt real and i liked it that way but i liked it that way. ENEMIES: the enemies in silent hill downpour are quite limited sadly. i only counted like three enemies total. and then there were rehashed versions of them and of course you have your bosses but they hardly count because those two are limited. for a game that preys on your fears and builds the tension through the enemies themselves, i have to say they were not scary. they were creepy looking but not scary. of course when used right a monster could perform a jumpscare pretty easily( luckily that dosent happen much) but one on one combat a monarch butterfly with teeth is scarier than these monsters. SOUND: the sound design in silent hill is the one of the best ive heard yet. when walking the streets of silent hill you can hear houses creaking to random sounds coming from alleys. when walking over a bridge the bridge will rattle and will make you feel unease as if the bridge is gonna collapse. the music in this game is sooooo friggin creepy i found it hard to sometimes walk in a pitch black dark house with nothing but my flashlight to light the way then all of the sudden this ominous presence fills the room with whispers and random bangs against the walls it was very scary. and the score really feels great. i know its a new composer and all but he nailed it hats off to you friend. MY EXPERIENCE: before i played silent hill i played Alan Wake. which i actually found to be pretty scary. i now realize im a complete wuss and now realize silent hill downpour is the scariest game ive ever played. there was this one side quest which really creeped me out i had to find the parts to this record player and once i found the parts i had to turn it in reverse and while i did it i saw this woman on the floor completely dead and with my UV flashlight right next to her body read "turn back time" so i continued to turn the player then all of the sudden i see this man walking backwards from his staircase with a bloodied fire axe in his hand he then in a reversed motion he then penetrates the woman multiple times with the axe lightning is going on outside the mood is super creepy and then it stops. so i then went to the mans picture and burned it, his spirit came out and the other portraits started to bleed (total amittyvile horror moment) i defeated the spirit and got out of that house as soon as possible. in so many words it freaked me out. THE VERDICT:silent hill downpour is a horror game through and through, though it may have technical hiccups and a no manual save option the game is truly unique please do not listen to the horrible reviews this game got the experience alone that may give ya a nightmare or two. SILENT HILL DOWNPOUR- 8/10 "do not play this game without a light!"

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Silent Hill:Downpour = Greatness While this game is getting bad reviews from IGN and other places...even other Silent Hill Fans are complaining....But why ? Yeh, sure.. the game needs a little more polish and starts out kinda slow, it gets better, a i'm not just sayin' this either! The gameplay is solid, the soundtrack is so good that I even downloaded one of the songs to my Ipod...! Oh...and it has a great story! Now, the choices in the game are very generic though,as it doesn't change anything except the ending, but it doesn't mean that the game should be bashed on because of a few small reasons to replay...like if you play through it three times like me it's nice to see a new ending and get some gamerscore, lol ! Give it a CHANCE !

Rated 4 out of 5 by from still silent hill so iv played every silent hill game out there up till downpour and i had to get it. but when i saw gameplay i was kind of turned off to it. i waited till it was on sale to get it and im glad i did! this game is yes different from the rest of the silent hills but ina good way. its not as scary or sketchy as the other silent hills but you still have that creepy silent hill feel to it. the combat system in my eyes is much improved since homecoming. this game isnt the best silent hill but is solid. i would recommend waiting till its under 35 dollars but defiantly worth it .
