Rated 4 out of 5 by from Probably the most redundant port of the original. Let me start by saying that this port of Metroid is veeeerry pointless. You can get Metroid on the Wii Virtual Console, Wii U Virtual Console, 3DS Virtual Console, the NES cartridge, on Metroid Prime if you can manage to beat both Metroid Prime and Fusion and find a gameboy advance/ gamecube link cable, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, its available when you beat Metroid Zero Mission, which is a far superior game to the original (its a remake of the first game) on the GBA that has the original game for free basically, if you want a GBA version of the first game, I highly suggest buying Zero Mission and saving your money, or you know, the original cartridge. But Metroid 1 is..........outdated, I mean its really fun and influential, and it is so gratifying getting powerups in the game because you REALLY DO NEED THEM, but maaan is this game unforgiving, it is easily the hardest Metroid game in existence, even harder than Prime 2 and Metroid 2. The games controls aren't as fine tuned as the later titles, which makes sense, but it makes killing enemies a bit problematic, especially since the game has a very tubular design and enemies bounce you around which makes you fall down a lot. You also start with no defense whatsoever. This is a thing with other Metroid games too, but not to this extent, every single time you die, and when you start the game, you have 30 health which means after a few hits you die, and enemies deal heavy damage in this game, even when you get Energy Tanks, your health is lowered to 30 every time, so you better not die or else the game is going to be nearly impossible. Its a fun game, but there are some design aspects that really strike to me as flawed or outdated, but it is the first game in the series and of a new sort-of sub-genre, so I can't complain too much. Again I highly suggest either picking up the original NES cart, or Zero Mission, Zero Mission is actually a far superior game, and I would play that one over the original, but this game is worth owning if you love the series like I do.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Painfull.... but great. ******I Played the nes version, this version might have a few small changes ****** Metroid is the kind of game that you love and hate, it's annyoing but thats what makes it so much fun. Metroid is a challenge from start to finish. Metroid starts with you in the middle of brinstar and thats a dark blue cave. After getting the morth ball abilty your adventure starts, just like that no map no idea what to do. Unless your using an outside guide you have to find the next objective yourself. Metroid has some hard extras to find. (this game is hard, much harder then the rest of the metroids though iv never finished metroid 2 or super metroid) Just finding an extra missel storage upgrade is a puzzel, they can be hidden in random floor tiles where you then need to follow a tunnel etc. I managed to beat this game in under 2 hours and managed to get most of the items etc on my first run through (the game has a few diferent endings off how fast you beat the game, the faster you beat the game the more suite samus takes off all the way to a two piece bathing suit.) Even if I managed to beat the game in under two hours (on my first run) don't be fooled in the short game time this game is a hard game. If you plan to buy make sure you know this is not an easy game, even if you have beat another such as metroid prime 3 you may not be able to beat this one or it may take you a decent chunk of time. I high recomend this game. Goodluck and happy mother brain hunting! Lasting appeal: This game has a mixed lasting apeal, some find trying to run it asap a great challeng and want to replay it a few times while some find it annyoing to play and will not replay it due to it's diffuclty. Authers Note:I recomend you try to find most of the extras if you rush to find/kill the 3 bosses your chances of death are 10x higher, the last boss is hard to get to so I highly recomend you try to find energy tanks and a few missel expansoins. It also makes the game last longer and this is not a long game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from :o!!!! This is one of my favorite games ever! It is the hardest classic game I have ever played. It's fun to collect the power ups and to get that accomplished feeling, unlike newer games. I would say this game hours of game play full of challenges & fun!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Which way do I go?!?!? NOTE: I don't own the gameboyadvance game so if there're any added features I probably won't mention them. Metroid, it's one of my favorite NES games. It had a creepy atmosphere for it's time. Now let's dive in to the reasons this game didn't get a 10. First off the backround was always black. Second Kraid and Ridley were qute small. I was expecting them to take up half the screen. Most importantly why does this game exist, considering Metroid Zero Mission improved it everyway possibleNow the games goods. This game was a great maze like game, all the upgrades were cool and creative. Most of the sound track was good, and tones of diffrent endings. I strongly suggest this game.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from does not seem the same I do think the original metroid is a good game, but this version doesn't seem the same. the music is also different. hardcore metroid fans might like this but I'm not sure everyone would like this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic Metroid on GBA!! This game rocks!!! It is the original Metroid game on GBA. If you have played this on the NES, you will notice some differences. Now you can save right to the cartridge and not have to type in a secret code like in the one for the NES. WARNING: This game is extremely hard and challenging!! Going through all the places is like a maze. You have to find the right entrances and stuff to get where you need to go. Great but hard game.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Get it on your Wii Let me first say that if you are planning on buying this game, you should get it on your Wii instead of buying it here. #1 Because it's cheaper to buy it on the virtual console. #2 this game for the gameboy is usually not available. And #3 you will never loose it or break it . But as for the game itself, I would really only recommend it to some one who loves the Metroid franchise, because otherwise you probably won't appreciate as much. Not to say it is a bad game, it's just that if you are a more modern day gamer, this game will more likely bring frustration instead of appreciation. It lags and glitches so often, even on the Wii, the controls are difficult to work with, the gameplay is far from top notch, and someone who has never played it will have no idea where to go or what to do. However for me, Metroid is my favorite gaming franchise. and for someone who has played just about all of them it is very interesting to see where it all began. Playing this game gave me a better appreciation for Metroid games overall. This game is far from perfect but it spawned and gave influence to some of the greatest games of all time. To sum it all up, it isn't a classic game everyone NEEDS to play, but if you love Metroid, love a challenge and love playing classic games, there is not a reason in the world why you shouldn't buy this game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from the grand mother(brain) of adventure games this is what started it all.it created the adventure genre and was very fun it is one of the best nes games ever the,the enemies are great and after a while you begin to know the ins and outs of zebes as if its your own home it even had great charm..when you have to defeat mother brain and escape zebes its pretty nerve wracking and that is what is really awesome but when you find out (SPOILER!!!!) samus is a woman it is just an awesome game
