Product Details:

The Metal Slug series, wildly popular in game arcades, now appears in its original version for the Game Boy Advance. Not only will it thrill with its peerless pixel action that makes the most of GBA's graphic capabilities, but it also delivers such series favorites as the Crossroad Entrances and a host of new features.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Metal Slug advance is a pretty good game This game is pretty good. It has some great looking graphics that look as good as the arcade original. As a fan of the series myself I enjoy playing this game. The metal slugs are pretty cool too, and the addition of different metal slugs is also pretty cool. I thought the game was good even if it had not had a variety of slugs to choose from, but Metal Slug Advance does, so it's even better. It's got the original slug, a type-R which is like a normal slug but the Vulcan Cannon faces the opposite direction of where you're going, and a couple more slugs. However, as good as this game may be, the story is not very clear at all in the game, you pretty much just tackle mission over mission but it's still pretty fun to actually play. Also the addition of cards to collect adds to the game challenge because if you die you must go all over again and get the card again, and they are not just to collect they take effect in the actual game. By getting these cards is how you get the different slugs, powered up weapons and you can also get weapon clips so that when you find a weapon you get double the ammo! Also there is a clip and power-up card for all the weapons and that is cool. The weapon variety is pretty good too for a GBA game, there is more than 5 different types of weapons including the all-time classic heavy machine gun, and others like the drop-shot and shotgun. The levels look great and they are not too cluttered. However, there is no underwater levels or any space levels, so all levels are pretty basic in that matter so that's a bit of a drag. Also the cards that can be collected give access to other parts of current levels and there is also one card that gives access to a whole new level that pretty much adds up all the levels and enemies in the game to different section in the game, this special level is also the only level that you can go back and choose different paths to end up in different areas, its like a maze with lots of exits. The enemies also come in wide varieties like the standard green soldiers, the underwater guys that jump out and throw rockets at you, elite different color soldiers, and there is a boss in every level! Also you can go back and replay any mission as many times as you want, and you'll need to if you plan on collecting all the cards. All in all Metal Slug Advance is a pretty solid but with lots of different weapons, enemies, levels and bosses, and with the addition of the cards and the life bar its a pretty unique experience on the GBA that's all its own while staying true to its arcade style.
