Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Good Fighting Game for a Younger Audience ========== Story ========== If the information I have is accurate there is a story for this game. Though it is only mentioned in the instruction manual which I do not have. The basic gist of the plot seems to be that there is some powerful digimon that is threatening both the digital and real world and it is up to you to stop them. Of course, the game doesn't mention of this during actual game. ========== Gameplay ========== The controls in this game are highly responsive, but the gameplay itself feels highly limited. You essentially only have three options open to yourself for combat. You have a basic slap attack that grows old rather quickly, a special attack performed by using b and up, and a guard move. You can also throw items you pickup by using b and down, but the enemy will probably be there as well and won't allow you to use the item anyway. The game also allows you to digivolve if you come into contact with Calumon while he is floating across the battle grounds. The game also doesn't work like a traditional fighting game. In the sense that your opponent and yourself don't have life bars. To win a match you need to collect the "spirit balls" that your enemy drops when you hit them. But, you need to collect these items quickly or they will disappear off screen. This makes the game largely about hit and run tactics and takes away from simply dominating your opponent. Another issue is that the characters feel rather similar. In that there is no real difference between how any of the characters fight. At least the characters don't feel any different in how they are used. Though, I've only used two of the seven available starting characters in this game. ========== Graphics ========== Graphically the game is rather strong. The character sprites move rather fluidly and it is easy to tell which digimon each character represents. The backgrounds are also colorful and vibrant. The game is definitely enjoyable to look at. ========== Sound ========== This area is a bit iffy. On one hand the game offers 23 different BGM tracks to listen to. On the other hand a lot of them are rather generic and not that enjoyable to hear. On one hand the game definitely offers a rather decent number of tracks, but you wouldn't want to listen to the bulk of them anyway. There are a few tracks though that work rather well to build atmosphere for the more difficult matches in the game. ========== Lasting Appeal ========== The game does offer a few secret characters to unlock as well as some decent challenge for the average player. ========== Scores ========== Story: 5 Gameplay: 7 Graphics: 9 Sound: 6 Lasting Appeal: 8 Overall: 7
