not so great
Time Hollow leads you believe you can make your own decisions throughout the game but this is not true. The storyline is already set and you are just being led to choose what the game wants you to choose. For example if an option is set before you and you chose a certain answer, the game tells you this is not really what you want to do. It does this so there is only one right answer for what you will do next. The game is not very challenging because of this lack of freedom. Other than this, the graphics are good except during actual play they don’t move their lips when they talk. For such an exciting sounding storyline I was not amazed by the game, only mildly entertained. The ending was open ended and I was quite disappointed by it. I would not really recommend this game because it is not your choice that affects the storyline. It is somewhat entertaining if you have nothing better to do but I believe the storyline could have been a lot better.
Time Hollow is a game in the vein of Phoenix Wright. It is a point and click adventure split into six different chapters. The story is about Ethan Kairos. He is a boy who turns seventeen one morning, only to find his parents have vanished, and he is left with a mysterious item called the hollow pen. The hollow pen allows him to see things, talk to certain people, and put things back in time. Throughout the game, this mechanic is used in different ways that push the story along. The game had many beautiful cut scenes, that were hand drawn anime, with good dubs. The story is very predictable in the beginning, but when you get about half way through, many twists and turns happened that I didn't expect. Although, like phoenix wright, the games are not extreme in length, the game is great. The story doesn't live out its welcome, and with great game play mechanics its a great buy. At any point during the game, you were allowed to save, which allowed for quick in and out game play.
At first i thought that because of their anime cutscenes, that they'll reduce the sound quality, but it turns out that the sound quality is not half bad. the graphics/animation is really nice for an adventure game. gameplay is very interesting in my opinion and story line really pulls through. my only con to the game is that the game is SHORT. i've finished this game in a total of a full day and that is pretty much it. but the way the story line goes, it makes sense somehow. controls is pretty easy, don't see much of a problem there. interface CAN be a bit of an "eh", because that you can use your D pad and/or your stylus to move the map area and such, i'd say it's better to use it with a D pad, but then again, you would much rather have your stylus do something else than tapping on items and creating holes. makes sense there. and it isn't a hard game to beat really. Overall, I love this game.
mightier than the sword
I've been waiting for Time Hollow for a while, and it did not disappoint. With a similar vibe to "the butterfly effect" and animation from studio AIC (Blood+ a), I think this is a definite buy. It's really fun seeing all the effects a simple change can cause. Do I save this person at the cost of another? Do I stop a fight or let it happen? The game offers many choices that can alter the world around you in unexpected ways. The controls for the game are pretty basic, use the stylus to interact with the world and to manipulate past events. Animation quality is pretty good considering how much has been loaded onto a DS cartridge. I would say the animation is excellent B+ quality. Considering this is the first of what I am hoping is a success leading to a series, Time Hollow delivers an enjoyable gaming experience.
Save your money.
No joke. I could go on about this game, but I'll try to keep it brief and to the point.
I was a normal teenager with a DS looking for a new game to play because Pokemon was getting old and dull. I found this game while looking in the mall when it had first come out and was excited to get it because it sounded interesting. The plot sounded unique and the graphics looked like they'd be good, so I got it.
I was highly disappointed with it. The game was frustrating and long. The plot was confusing and had too many plot holes for me to deal with and for the cut scenes I needed sometimes I would have to go to the same spot five times just to get it to work. I felt like I had wasted my money on a game that didn't make sense at all. I even had the urge to reply it a coupe years later and scolded myself for doing so. It was really boring the second time around and I know I'm looking for a game whose plot is interesting even after I beat it.
The animation was good, but the sound could've been better.
All in all, borrow the game from someone who has it if you want to play it. Save your money for something better.
Butterfly Effect, Anime-style
If you were a fan of "The Butterfly Effect", you'll probably like this game. The storyline focuses on this phenomenon; using the Hollow Pen to alter the past, thus giving you different flashbacks about events happening after that alteration, thus changing your present. There are plenty of plot twists to keep you coming back, all of them presented via full-motion video. Gameplay isn't all that complicated; it's a point-and-click kind of ordeal. The biggest use you'll get out of the stylus is from "digging"... drawing "holes" to interact with the past. It's very text-heavy, but you can scroll through the dialogue fairly quickly if you wish. The music in this game is also one of its strong points... it's got a great opening (FMV accompanied) theme song. However, throughout the game it is somewhat grating; I found the system menu screen and digging (Hollow Pen sequence) music to be the most appealing as opposed to running around the city. The only downside is that Time Hollow doesn't last very long and doesn't really require that much of a mental challenge. It has a very low replay value as well; once you beat it, you probably won't want to play through the whole thing again; you'll already know the whole story. All in all, if you want to play a good suspense storybook kind of game, this one fits the bill rather nicely. You may get a little annoyed figuring out what to do next, but you will have your "Eureka!" moments when you figure it out. However, if you're really into the whole "interactive storybook" +logic genre, I'd recommend setting your sights on the Ace Attorney games instead.
This is THE BEST game ever!!!!!!!
the number one best game i have ever played, i love the anime style graphics, take on changing time, making paradox, the awesome story! i beat the game in 24 hours, i could not put it down!! to sum up, it a great game!!
Unique DS gem!
I've been disappointed with most of the adventure games available for DS, but Time Hollow is one of the best I've played! I really can't put it down, and it's not too hard if you have half a brain. Graphics are excellent, the use of the touchscreen is well implemented, the story and gameplay keep things interesting, and the music is perfect. I would recommend this to ANYONE with a DS.
The graphics, cut scenes, story line, everything, was amazing! Music in this game is really enjoyable. I never got bored listening to the music. Story line was great. This game would be the perfect game if-yes there's a 'if' in this great game-it was much longer. If you find it at a good price I highly recommend buying it.
This looks great
based on everything that I have been look at. Interesting plot, excellent animation (done in full anime style). this looks looks like it could be one of the great DS games. or at least a viable alternative to pheonix wright (which is one of my favorite games). this game looks like it could be one of the greats
