Revised Review: Turn-Based Sonic RPG
=========
Story
=========
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood features a rather generic story for the Sonic universe, but I wasn't going into this game expecting a grandiose storyline either. The game starts off with Sonic returning from a recent mission only to discover that the chaos emeralds have been stolen and that Knuckles was kidnapped trying to defend them. The adventure quickly pursues with you attempting to stop the marauders that appear to be behind the kidnapping of Knuckles and the most recent thefts of the chaos emeralds.
My only major complaint about the story is that it ends on a cliffhanger, and is then followed up with the characters reading off the credits. Though, to be fair the game had broken the 4th wall rather repeatedly before this as well with the game constantly reminding you to save the game.
=========
Gameplay
=========
The gameplay in this game is rather mixed. On the downside the game is control entirely with the stylus, but on the plus side the stylus controls are responsive and do work rather well. On the downside the lack of button controls is rather disappointing.
Combat in the game is comprised of rounds that are broken up into turns. Each character gets a certain amount of turns during each combat round, but the way the game works makes it impossible to heal when you need to. One you choose to attack or defend your character will do nothing else during that round. The only exception to this is if you choose to use a special move or use an item. The lack of an ability to heal or guard when you need to is probably this games Achilles' heel when it comes to combat. Another issue is that several of the characters have special moves that are broken. Another downside is that most of the equipment in the game doesn't really have an impact on combat. On the plus side the combat does feel rather fast-paced and the way of executing special attacks and countering enemy special attacks makes use of the stylus and makes combat more engaging.
=========
Graphics
=========
The game uses a very comic-book style of graphics for the cut-scenes. This may appeal to people or it may not. The in-game graphics are a bit of a mix on the characters. Most of the characters are alright except for Eggman who has one of the weirdest movement cycles I've ever seen in a game. The designs of the fields and towns look like they were drawn in a style similar to a cartoon. Overall, I did enjoy the graphical style of this game.
=========
Sound
=========
Most of the soundtracks in this game are rather weak. They tend to be a mix of techno beat songs, and most of them aren't that good either. The battle theme did grow of me after a while though. The only plus side to the field music for the most part is that it is forgettable.
=========
Lasting Appeal
=========
The game offers little in terms of lasting appeal to be honest. After beating the game you'll be sent back to the beginning of the game where you can attempt to collect rings that you missed on a previous run while also being able to acquire additional chao. The game also allows you to keep your levels and moves so an additional run through the game will be a lot easier.

Turn-Basec Sonic RPG
=========
Foreword
=========
I have highly mixed feelings about this game. On one hand, I'm a diehard fan of turn-based RPGs on the other hand it feels like a bad fit for a sonic game. Sonic seems to lend itself more to a high speed action/adventure RPG like than the slower pace of a turn-based game. On the other hand I have to judge this game for what it is then what I think it should have been.
=========
Story
=========
Since, I only played this game to the start of the second chapter. I'm unable to comment on the story as a whole. The beginning of the game felt rather stock, but it was a change up for one of the male characters to be the damsel in distress.
=========
Gameplay
=========
This game suffers in this area the most in my opinion. The game is controlled entirely by the stylus pen which seems to slow down the game even more. It just feels like the polar opposite of what you'd expect in a game based off "the fastest thing alive". The constant use of the stylus pen to move around on the map, successfully use special abilities, defend against special attacks, and so on tends to grow rather tiresome after a short while as well.
=========
Graphics
=========
Graphically the game has a very cartoonish feel, but it seems rather fitting for the character, but it does feel a bit off at places. The enemies are on screen and you enter battle by coming in contact with them, but they feel out of place in comparison to the style of the background in some areas.
=========
Sound
=========
The game features a rock based soundtrack, but the fast pace of the music feels out of place due to this game feeling rather slow in terms of combat and movement on the world map.
=========
Lasting Appeal
=========
As far as I know the amount of lasting appeal this game can offer is rather limited. To my knowledge there are no secret bosses or anything. There are side quests contained within the game, but their usefulness is rather limited since they seem to give you items you can get rather frequently from defeating enemies. The game also offers branching conversation paths, but if they have an effect on the story as a whole is unclear.

Very Repetitive And Not My Kind Of Sonic Game
This game was a fair game. This is actually the worst reviewed game I'd written about Sonic. He just didn't hit the mark. The title was very catchy and I got lured into the game. Well, I should've rented the game because this was not impressive. The gameplay was really bad. Too many battles, almost unbeatable enemies, and walking around. Not fun, and not cool. But I really liked the experience points system and the upgrading. But that's it. The graphics you had to admit were kind of sloppy. Especially the enemies. The 2-D pictures of them looked way better, and they need more cutscenes. For sound. They use rock-style music again. They really should open up. I prefer Orchestra. But the worst part of the game though was the lasting appeal. Sure it was a bit long I will admit, but that's not my problem. It was way too repetitive! once you completed the game,you started it over with characters at the same level they were at the end and it kept doing that over and over and over and.. Yeah, you get what I mean. This is also the first Sonic game I don't recommend. Finally, Sega and RPG probably aren't the best partnership because this was RPG's first handheld DS game! I'm not cutting slack on them. Sega should've known this and wait until RPG had experience with making a game like that.

Not my cup of tea.
In all honesty, I just don't think Sonic and RPGs mix very well. This game simply isn't particularly enjoyable to me. The gameplay itself was a bit confusing, and the graphics weren't particularly nice. This game was a bit of a letdown for me, as when I got it I did no background research and thought it was basically a regular Sonic game. I play Sonic games for fun, fast, simple gameplay, and this game just doesn't cut it for me. I made it to the 3rd area then I decided I just couldn't stand it anymore. Even then, if you like RPGs, you might enjoy this game, but I believe it wouold be smart to rent it somewhere first or maybe buy it used. If you're looking for a good, fast-paced Sonic game for DS though, I highly recommend the Sonic Rush games.

Worst Sonic game Iv'e played
I'm the biggest sonic game, and this game is too hard and just awful. Too many continuous battles. Bad.
3/12/12
Beat this game four times.
Well the whole review is in the summary, I beat this game four times, easy game, if you know how to play it. (SPOILER ALERT) They left a huge cliff hanger at the end, with an "End?" at the end of that last cutscene. but I believe that this game should have ended with "End.", because they aren't going to make a sequal. This game is as dead as Aquaman for the gamecube.

So glad I rented this before buying this...
I remember renting this game before buying at Blockbuster and really, this game was bad. Fights are fast so you gotta be quick, story line is short, and to be honest, Sonic and RPG's do not mix at all unless Sega can get there head straight and actually make a good Sonic RPG game. Don't buy this game.
