I really like action and adventure games but I recently bought this puzzle game for a change in what I play. I got hooked to this game in a matter of minutes. The storyline is great! Something shocking happens all the time from beginning to end. There are a total of 8 important mysteries you need to solve. The most important one is finding the treasured Golden Apple. There are a total of 120 puzzles in the game and 15 extra puzzles which are the most difficult (save your hint coins for these) The characters you meet are so unusual and like to bug you with their hardest puzzles. I recommend this game for people 12 years & up. Believe me. Even my aunt had trouble solving some puzzles. The controls are OK because you only need to use the touch screen. The biggest downside is that sometimes you HAVE to guess if you want to complete a puzzle because even after the game explains to you how you probably got the answer, you still dont understand what you did to solve it.

I bought this game simply from a television commercial I saw one time. I figured it would just be another mindless game/puzzle game like all the others I currently own. I opened this game up a few weeks ago and cannot put it down! Neither can my boyfriend, who keeps stealing my DS to play it! The graphics are awesome (for a cartoon-based game) and the atmosphere is fantastic! It is based in Europe and gives the player an acurate view of what Europe is like (to some degree). The music is cool at first but after playing for hours, you will tend to mute it cause it becomes redundant. The games are sometimes too easy and make you think you've got it nailed when all the sudden you have a very challenging puzzle that you're asking everyone around you to solve cause you are stumped! A perfect blend of easy and challenging. I would definately give this game 2 thumbs way up!! The graphics are very similar in style to A Series of Unfortunate Events motion picture/movie that Jim Carrey starred in a few years back - very chic!
Rated 10 out of 10 by The coolest kid ever I thought puzzlers were supposed to be boring...
...but Professor Layton has proved me wrong. I love the story mixing a detective story into a puzzle game is one the coolest ideas Ive ever heard!! Putting the setting into a mysterious village where everyone greets you with a question is a great way to show why the game is a puzzler in the first place. Sure some of the stuff accessed from the menu is plain unnecessary but the core gameplay is simple and fun. Going from place to place in town is simple and the puzzles are challenging and fun but sometimes frustrating. Some puzzles are taken from classic riddles, while others involve math and piecing something back together. The story is great and like any great detective story has all the twists and turns you would expect. The characters are, as in any detective story, divided into three categories, the ones you love, the annoying ones, and the ones you hate. This is overall the best puzzle game I have ever played and shouldn't be overlooked.

This game is a lot of fun and hard to put down. There is a puzzle within a puzzle. First you have a mystery to solve and to solve that mystery you must go around solving puzzles. It's nice because some of the puzzles are not has hard as others. I haven't done any puzzles that have made me think in a very long time. So this will really get your juices flowing. My 11 year old son enjoys the game too. All 3 of us have played and we each enjoy the game. The only thing that I don't like is that each time you start the puzzle up it gives you a little summary of what is going on in the mystery. That is nice if you haven't picked the game up in a few days. Unfortunately if a puzzle is stumping me I will shut it off and 10 minutes later start it up again because I want to complete that puzzle! It is very addicting but is not frustrating in a bad way. You don't loose sleep over this and I think it is good for anyone who enjoys puzzles/brain teasers.

This game start like a regular game display in stores, later the game popularity spread over the store. Professor Layton & The Curious Village is a best library of puzzle games. The cartoon animation is good, the video for the Nintendo DS are quite good. No comments on control since DS is a very fun and cool way to play and it is suitable for Professor Layton & The Curious Village. Another thing about this game, it is a cartoon story. It is a best way to got more audiences, and like this way it suits all age. The BAD of this game is NOTHING. I don't see why should have something negative. I beat the game in a month and some weeks. I admit to find the puzzle solutions over the internet, but its difficulty on some puzzles are the essential thing of a puzzle. It is very Ptychohyla if someone review this game puzzle's difficulty as bad thing. To conclude, I HIGHLY recommend this game. It is a ''must have'' game of Nintendo DS.

If you love puzzles or mysteries, this is the right game for you. I used to be one of you, thinking- "Oh, this is just a weird game. What a snooze." My friend and I were at a sleepover and we played this game. I didn't want to hurt her feelings of how boring it looks, so I kept it to myself. She turned it on- and the plot and everything was so interesting. The puzzles I look up to awe, because it was a fun educational game. One month later I saved my money to buy it. It was 100% worth it!This game keeps your brain fresh and active. I have a lot of DS games that aren't educational- it's just for fun. Now Nintendo made something fun AND educational. The puzzles aren't so easy- that's why they are so fun. I love it, and you should get it. It was not one of the biggest mistakes in my life to buy it- it was one of the rightest things to do. You should go out there to buy one. Be glad this game wasn't $**. I would still buy it if it was that much. That is how much this game rules. So the next time you are caught thinking- there are no games fun anymore! Well, this game will change your whole life. And I mean it.

This is the kind of production value I'd like to see of a DS game. The graphics have a nice slylized look to them and the cut scenes are a really nice touch. The sounds and music are very good, and the gameplay is great. Throw in a new puzzle a week by way of wifi and you've got a game that's just too hard to put down. I like the fact that you can access all the puzzles you've encountered through the story portion of the game at any time. I can bring up a tough puzzle, hand it to a friend and they can have a go of it without having to go through the story. Great way to hook your friends. The puzzles are challenging, and the hint system they've implamented gives you a way to get help when you need it. I just wish some of the early hints were better. They usually state what you already know. I highly reccomend this game. So far, one of the best I've encountered on the DS.

First of all, I'm not a huge fan of the DS. It hasn't even cam close to its full potential, but with all bias aside...I love this game! I don't have it, but i will be getting it in a day or so. I love brainteasers and this game is chocked full of em (its the whole game actually). The graphics are very good, given that its a cartoon. There is a large range of puzzle difficulties, even though there is no overall game difficulty setting. There are no time limits when solving the puzzles, which is great, because some of them verge on impossible. My only gripe about this game is that you cant skip the cutscenes, which have great voice-overs for every character. Also, you can download new puzzles every week to your DS via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. If you like brainteasers, sudoku, or just thinking ALOT, GET THIS GAME!!!

Professor Layton and the Curious Village is by far one of my favorite Nintendo DS games. I am unable to put it down due to the alluring French-esque music, the exponentially tougher puzzles, and the darling art that gives you visual as to what St. Mystere truly is. As I mentioned before, the music is quite wonderful and the art is up-to-par; but it is the puzzles that keep me coming time and time again. All of the challenges you face are able to be played again through an interface in the game. It also allows you to pick and choose your favorites to save for later! So if you love to attack the easy puzzles or, maybe, slave over the harder ones, you may. Getting around St. Mystere came off as confusing at first to me. It is not by any lengths hard, no, but remembering the winding paths does come as a big feat. However, there is a handy map if you so wish to use it. As well as getting around, though, there are a few puzzles where I feel that different mechanics may have helped ease your way through them. But with all said and done, I love Professor Layton, I adore Luke, and I will continuously come back to visit them; I suggest that everyone else does as well.
Rated 9 out of 10 by -Johnny- Great Logic/Riddle Game for all ages!
I bought this game because my sister was begging me to get it because she loves puzzle games. I bought it, thinking I wouldn't play it much, and when I got home my sister played the game. She was so satisfied, she actually got addicted to this game. She would always have some riddle that she wanted my help with, and I have to admit: a lot of those riddles are really tricky! They make you think of things differently then you normally do. I actually was going to rent this game at first, because I knew it would be one of those one week games, but even if you do finish it in a week you can still download many more riddles and puzzles using the wi-fi! Even if you don't like puzzles, this game is great to play! I have actually written down some of the riddles and have confused my friends! It is definitely worth it!
