Professor Layton & The Curious Village
The Most Addicting Puzzle Game
I really like action and adventure games but I recently bought this puzzle game for a change in what I play. I got hooked to this game in a matter of minutes. The storyline is great! Something shocking happens all the time from beginning to end. There are a total of 8 important mysteries you need to solve. The most important one is finding the treasured Golden Apple. There are a total of 120 puzzles in the game and 15 extra puzzles which are the most difficult (save your hint coins for these) The characters you meet are so unusual and like to bug you with their hardest puzzles. I recommend this game for people 12 years & up. Believe me. Even my aunt had trouble solving some puzzles. The controls are OK because you only need to use the touch screen. The biggest downside is that sometimes you HAVE to guess if you want to complete a puzzle because even after the game explains to you how you probably got the answer, you still dont understand what you did to solve it.
I bought this game simply from a television commercial I saw one time. I figured it would just be another mindless game/puzzle game like all the others I currently own. I opened this game up a few weeks ago and cannot put it down! Neither can my boyfriend, who keeps stealing my DS to play it! The graphics are awesome (for a cartoon-based game) and the atmosphere is fantastic! It is based in Europe and gives the player an acurate view of what Europe is like (to some degree). The music is cool at first but after playing for hours, you will tend to mute it cause it becomes redundant. The games are sometimes too easy and make you think you've got it nailed when all the sudden you have a very challenging puzzle that you're asking everyone around you to solve cause you are stumped! A perfect blend of easy and challenging. I would definately give this game 2 thumbs way up!! The graphics are very similar in style to A Series of Unfortunate Events motion picture/movie that Jim Carrey starred in a few years back - very chic!
Best Puzzle Game Ever?
What a treat it is to have no expectations for a game and then find you can't put it down for a week! I'm going to date myself a little here, but one of my favorite games from back in the 80's was a puzzle game called "Fools Errand." Professor Layton, while likely not directly derivative of that classic game, shares the concept of progressing through an entertaining story, via completion of dozens of seemingly unrelated puzzles. Both games excel at making you really work for it and feel brilliant at the same time. The puzzles in Layton are very challenging, but the progressive hint system doles out help in small doses, so you still feel a sense of accomplishment even when "cheating" a little. While it might be too challenging for young kids (and many adults!) as a parent, it was fun to play this game with my 10 year old son; when he wasn't prying the DS out of my hands that is. ;) The animated cut scenes are high quality and if you are a fan of great anime films like Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, you'll feel right at home. The only thing lacking is a varied musical score. Not that the provided music isn't great, but it just gets stale after awhile. If (when) you finish the included puzzles, you can download more directly through your DS, assuming you have an available Wi-Fi connection. I tried this out as soon as I finished the game and it works great. New puzzles every week! This is definitely my favorite game of 2008. Give it a try if you love great games, especially if you appreciate anime and the occasional brain-bending puzzle. Have fun!
I thought puzzlers were supposed to be boring...
...but Professor Layton has proved me wrong. I love the story mixing a detective story into a puzzle game is one the coolest ideas Ive ever heard!! Putting the setting into a mysterious village where everyone greets you with a question is a great way to show why the game is a puzzler in the first place. Sure some of the stuff accessed from the menu is plain unnecessary but the core gameplay is simple and fun. Going from place to place in town is simple and the puzzles are challenging and fun but sometimes frustrating. Some puzzles are taken from classic riddles, while others involve math and piecing something back together. The story is great and like any great detective story has all the twists and turns you would expect. The characters are, as in any detective story, divided into three categories, the ones you love, the annoying ones, and the ones you hate. This is overall the best puzzle game I have ever played and shouldn't be overlooked.
Lots of fun!
This game is a lot of fun and hard to put down. There is a puzzle within a puzzle. First you have a mystery to solve and to solve that mystery you must go around solving puzzles. It's nice because some of the puzzles are not has hard as others. I haven't done any puzzles that have made me think in a very long time. So this will really get your juices flowing. My 11 year old son enjoys the game too. All 3 of us have played and we each enjoy the game. The only thing that I don't like is that each time you start the puzzle up it gives you a little summary of what is going on in the mystery. That is nice if you haven't picked the game up in a few days. Unfortunately if a puzzle is stumping me I will shut it off and 10 minutes later start it up again because I want to complete that puzzle! It is very addicting but is not frustrating in a bad way. You don't loose sleep over this and I think it is good for anyone who enjoys puzzles/brain teasers.
Best Puzzle/ Adventure Game ever!
This game is an incredible adventure game that keeps you on your toes. It's so great how the game ends (I won't spoil anything for you.) The puzzles are logical and fun. Believe me, this is a great game!
The Best Puzzle Game Ever!
This game start like a regular game display in stores, later the game popularity spread over the store. Professor Layton & The Curious Village is a best library of puzzle games. The cartoon animation is good, the video for the Nintendo DS are quite good. No comments on control since DS is a very fun and cool way to play and it is suitable for Professor Layton & The Curious Village. Another thing about this game, it is a cartoon story. It is a best way to got more audiences, and like this way it suits all age. The BAD of this game is NOTHING. I don't see why should have something negative. I beat the game in a month and some weeks. I admit to find the puzzle solutions over the internet, but its difficulty on some puzzles are the essential thing of a puzzle. It is very Ptychohyla if someone review this game puzzle's difficulty as bad thing. To conclude, I HIGHLY recommend this game. It is a ''must have'' game of Nintendo DS.
OMG!!! ADDICTING GAME
I got this game and then couldn't put it down. I was completely addicted to it and then got my family members addicted to it as well. It was a race between my stepmother and I to see who could finish first. I finished the game but did not get all the puzzels so it give you the option to go back and find more puzzels. I am going to replay it and see if I can remember everything. I would recomend this game to anyone who likes to do puzzels.. it will definatly make you use your brain ALOT! I got stuck on a few but you are able to work through it believe me. The graphics are cute for the game and it is very easy to control. So basically if you want a game that is fun and will make you use your brain, Then definatly get this game. I give it 2 THUMBS UP!!!!!!!!!!!
I Love this Game
I got this game yesterday and i can't put it down. The storyline is amazing and always keeps me guessing. The characters are unique and charming. The music is addictive and the sound is great. Overall this game is insane (in a good way) The puzzles make you think differently then you would on a normal basis. This game is unique and is unlike any game i have EVER played. This games target audience includes: Teenagers, adults, Elderly, But its not for little kids. I'm 12 years old and at points in this game it can be hard, but nothing too overwhelming. I suggest this game to anyone and everyone who likes challenging puzzles. In fact, This game is so good I'm going to buy the second game the day that i finish the first one. So if you like puzzles then you NEED this game :-)
This is the kind of production value I'd like to see of a DS game. The graphics have a nice slylized look to them and the cut scenes are a really nice touch. The sounds and music are very good, and the gameplay is great. Throw in a new puzzle a week by way of wifi and you've got a game that's just too hard to put down. I like the fact that you can access all the puzzles you've encountered through the story portion of the game at any time. I can bring up a tough puzzle, hand it to a friend and they can have a go of it without having to go through the story. Great way to hook your friends. The puzzles are challenging, and the hint system they've implamented gives you a way to get help when you need it. I just wish some of the early hints were better. They usually state what you already know. I highly reccomend this game. So far, one of the best I've encountered on the DS.
